Jadon Sancho| Staying at Dortmund for now

Youre thinking like a football manager.

Its a business and there will be forecasts on variations in investment return.

120mill is a big sum.

No doubt, but if there was no intention to pay it in the first place, it raises the question of why this whole saga happened in the first place.

They have been consistent with their demands the whole time.

There is no requirement for a seller to reduce their demands, it may or may not be unrealistic and scare off potential suitors, but I don't think that's that bad a scenario for them currently

Transfer window is closed in early October. Even if they make announcement now, they won't reject a good deal from us next week or in two weeks because next year they probably can only sell him around 40m as his contract is expired in 2022. We are dictating the time for this deal mate.
I don't think Dortmund will announce he's staying and then sell anyway.

Depends on what this Zorc says, if he says they won't sell him now, I will believe that.

Even with Dembele, it was never simply a "he stays" - it was "he stays, unless the price is met"

I'd rather they scrap the deal now than in 2-3 weeks though. If we go into the new season with no new signings, all of our then targets will cost more because agents and clubs will know we're more desperate.

Hang on, you believe they want 120m for Sancho. Yet unless it’s sorted today they’ll turn down 120m in on say September 1st?

What utter nonsense is this?
I believe that if they were still willing to sell on September 1st, then they'd look pathetic making an announcement today saying he's not for sale. And I can't see any other reason for them to make a public announcement on the situation, unless that announcement is "he's staying at Dortmund for next season". There's nothing else he's realistically going to say is there?

If Zorc says ''we won't sell'' this week. Next week we put 120m, he will eat his own word and sell Sancho. Simple, we are dictating this. We got this, relax mate.

Quite sure he was adamant Aubameyang wouldn't be sold in the season of 2018, and he ended up leaving half way through the season in January. It's a pandemic environment, even if Dortmund get 120mEUR as an offer in October they'll have to take it.

It's not like he hasn't done similar things in the past. This is Zorc we're talking about.

Money talks, they’ll give zero shits about looking pathetic. Why on Earth do you give this any credence?
Just like Fergie gave zero shits when he said he wouldn’t sell Madrid a virus. Elon Musk give no fecks every day about some bollocks he says to make his company money.
Making a statement today could simply be a chess move.

Unless they mean what they say and won't go beyond their clearly stated deadline. Or unless Chelsea decide to switch their attention from Havertz to Sancho since they're going to have to pay out a huge fee either way. There's many a slip 'twixt cup and lip. Missing out on a player with Sancho's quality when he was so readily available over a comparatively minor difference in valuation would be a massive, massive, massive blunder.

Okay then you have your view, i'll have mine.

My fake money says that if Dortmund make the "he will stay" announcement today, as expected - then within 24 hours United will brief "no interest", "no value", or some bollocks.

It's a bit weird no question was asked about Sancho in the press conference

We need to unleash serious consequences on clubs who take the piss. This is now WAR.

Cut off the water supply to Dortmund, stop any trucks delivering goods and supplies.

Chelsea switched from Havertz to Sancho  Havertz is cheaper, they won't switch right now.

Money is powerful mate, money can make anyone do u-turn and that's including Dortmund.

Well that's the point of trying to call their bluff by holding out to see if they're serious or not.

Their demand is 120m euros, either they won't accept less or they will accept less. In both scenarios they will still state their demand is 120m euros so the saga is a side effect of us attempting to negotiate that fee down and seeing if there is potential to do so. We're not just going to take their day 1 price when we have leverage of our own to use.

Christ, war between Britain and Germany now would have more in common with Scrapheap Challenge than WWII. First team to get their tanks working wins, six month time limit. What the hell, we'll call it a draw.

I think it's more a case Dortmund wanting the deal sorted so they can begin their search for a replacement asap, which is perfectly understandable.

Incorrect. Germany would be obliterated.
Unimpressive as the German military currently is I'm not sure how we'd 'win' a war with a country of 80 million people with an army not big enough to fill Wembley. It'd take more men than that to put a guard on each sausage factory.

Let's see what happens today. I'm sure we will hear something from the United side by the end of play and things will become clearer. Everyone knows Zorc in particular, and Dortmund, have form for lying and playing to their own agenda. It's very easy to find comments declaring the Dembele and Auba deals as off and both players staying only for them to be sold before the end of the respective windows

If United come out and brief the press that we've moved on or talks have finished then that will be that for now. Failing that the silence still suggests there's something going on to me.

We've got nukes.

You don't dig trenches in France now a days and go over the top. To some extent man power itself is redundant. The British army is still one of the best in the world and most technological advanced.

I think this is the first time in this saga I’m losing abit of faith. Perhaps we really don’t have £120 million to spend?

I don’t think people quite get how transfers of this magnitude work.

Unites didn’t start talking to Sancho’s people yesterday. Someone didn’t call up and say “Fancy a move lad??”.

This transfer has been over a year in the making, with no other clubs being in contact with Sancho during that year. Personal terms are done, he’s in the mindset of where he wants to play, where he wants to live etc. Why do you think he’s always on FaceTime to Lingard and Rashford? He’s known this was happening for months.

It doesn’t matter what Liverpool decide to do next summer, they’d have to move mountains at this point to offer him a better package and make him feel more wanted than United have done throughout.

Of course, absolutely anything could happen next year but it’s highly unlikely that Sancho will go anywhere but United. Potential wages for a start blow everyone else out of the water.
Great post.
None of those things will happen. That’s worst case scenario. Madrid want Mbappe and just spent £1b on a new stadium. Barcelona have a huge wage budget and 4 players to move, who’s going to buy Salah for big money post COVID? Sancho doesn’t support Chelsea for the 100th time and Pep isn’t interested.

We don’t have to shit the bed because were worried about our rivals. Sancho will force this move by the end of the window and we’ll get him for £90m.
On point again.
I'll save you all the updates tonight, and probably the next week.

Fabrizio: talks still on going 24/7.
Jan: Re sancho, I know nothing.
Dortmund: we want the full 120m
Bild: Dortmund want the full 120m
Caf: Dortmund are bluffing, we will get this done

I will recycle this post next Sunday
An old uni pal of mine that I'm still in touch with works at the Guardian (joined fairly recently). He says folk there were briefed that a deal was reached a while ago and will be announced officially early next week. Woodward posturing so the clubs of other targets think we have bugger all left in the coffers after this.

I also think that if this is true, there will be no statement by Zorc today indicating anything along the lines that Sancho is staying.

This brief your buddy spoke about also makes sense because it works for Dortmund too. They wouldn’t want to announce Sancho’s departure until his replacement is confirmed as well.

So everyone else saying that negotiations about the structure of payments, they bullshit us with,' no official contact,'
suppose it depends how they view official contact. Reports are United have an intermediary working on their behalf to sort out the structure of the deal. So you could say no official contact has been made by Untied and there probably won’t be until the frame work of the deal is in place and United make an official offer.

I don't understand why people on here think Dortmund can set deadlines to force a deal to happen. The transfer window closes in October. They are a selling club and they will sell.

i just don’t see why Dortmund needs to make a statement today. They have said:
- deal deadline: today
- no official contact
If today passes without information, one can pretty much deduct that a deal won’t happen. At least if previous Information was to be believed. This would simply be posturing, but through a more official media than before. As others have said, Dortmund have done similar things before, doesn’t mean all that much.

I think this is the first time in this saga I’m losing abit of faith. Perhaps we really don’t have £120 million to spend?
Maybe not. But there's a plan B

#TrustInJanuzaj

Could easily get him for under £120m. Opening bid of £90m and i think his current club will listen.

We've got nukes.
That we've never used in any of the many wars we've fought since we aquired them. There's such a thing as proportional use. I'm not sure blowing up towns devoted to the manufacture of novelty clocks would be viewed as proportionate.

You must also consider both United and Dortmund will want to look at other targets so announcing a big deal like this early in the window and before any other deals are in place is counterproductive to both clubs.

In United's case teams know we've spent big so price us out and in Dortmund's case teams know that are loaded so charge them more. It also gives both of our rivals an advantage in that regard. It's quite conceivable, given what the reliable sources have said, it's all agreed and it's just a matter of timing with both sides happy to keep quiet and even pretend nothing is going on until late in the window.

Or better yet, lets resign Law and Charlton. Best would be a tricky transfer to pull off due to his current status but have some faith in woody. £200 should see that trinity arrive.

This isn’t the transfer to get cocky with, but we also (unlike in FM) don’t have unlimited funds. The money we can spend is limited, the money we can pay upfront is limited too. Even if Ed and Ole really want Sancho, it needs to be within the parameters we can offer for the transfer to happen. BVB will want as much money as possible, we would want to pay as less money as possible, with United having a maximum amount we can pay and BVB having a minimum amount they can accept. If these numbers are not each other, then we cannot get it.

I also want a Tesla but at the moment I cannot buy it. The reasons why I am not buying it is cause I cannot afford (without leaving other things worse), not because my lack of ambition or me being a terrible negotiator or me trying to be smart.

Love it when people who have no idea what fm is like post bollocks about it for no reason.
