Jadon Sancho| Staying at Dortmund for now

I've got to admit that I got on the Sancho bandwagon and wanted United to sign him but I think Jadon Sancho needs to prove himself next season to ensure that he's no one season wonder. I'm a little wary of us signing a player who's that young and for such a massive price. I would rather go for someone who's in their early 20s and will substantially improve our right wing immensely from Mata and Lingard. At present, I would consider either Pepe or Lozano. We wouldn't need to break the bank or pay huge wages.
Is it really worth it sign a significantly lesser talent just because he's played more football? Sancho appears to have something special and personally I'm willing to put up with a year of inconsistency to have a player with that magical quality in their boots in our team. Unless the difference is marginal, you have to bag these sort of talents as somebody else will and they're hard to come by.

Also, I remember everyone here being against signing Kane because we felt he may be a one season wonder. But sometimes you have to take that chance on a talent you're certain about. In Kane's case, the posters who made the case for him were provne correct. I found his talent harder to guage because his all round game did not seem to be that impressive. But the point is that anybody given the chance to sign him should have (not that they were) despite only doing for a year.

Also everyone here keeps claiming we have too much good/decent talent in our team. Do you feel the likes of Lozano and Pepe are on a different level to that entirely?

In purely sporting terms, buying both Nicolas Pepe and Hirving Lozano will be much better than investing in Sancho, and they both together will cost around the same money we will have to spend to get Sancho alone. But I think Woodward will go for Sancho as he is English and will be much more commercially viable than both of them.

Sancho hasn't really done well against the top sides. He's no doubt talented but we've got other gaping holes to fill in the side. In my opinion, we need a CB, RW, CM, DM, ST, RB and that's all for the starting 11. We still need good bench options, as well as that, separates a City side from a Liverpool side. With that being said, we do not have an endless budget and we can't possibly spend half the budget for the summer on Sancho when there are other good enough options. We've got to recruit cleverly. Yes, in the case of a CB, we need a leader who can arrange our defense. We do not have leaders at the back which has led to us conceding so many goals. We need that Van Dijk effect.... I think Pepe is under-rated just like Mo Salah was at Roma.... I hope we have him as a consideration.

He wont come, he is just too expensive.dortmund want atleast Dembele money According to their ceo which is 120m pounds

I've said before and again, Lingard's movement is massively overrated, I don't have an idea where people get it from. Sancho wasn't RW but he has better movement and scored more goal and assist than Lingard from that, he always gets there in right time for a goal.

Not sure their CEO said anything of the sort. The official line is that he isn’t for sale.

If we don't buy him this summer I think I will explode.

It will be Hazard/Bale scenario again probably.

Bargain.

Absolutely worth the punt.

All we have to do is be aggressive. Turn his head. Cough up the big money.

We better fecking get it done. It would be absolute negligence to miss out on a potential worldclass superstar from England, 18 years old, and not playing for one of our PL rivals who are impossible to sign from.

He's 19 now. I don't think he's a bargain at the Dembele price, but he's a risk I'd still be willing to take, although I'd prefer Felix myself if I had to blow my wad on one of the most talented youngsters. The problem is, you still don't know how good he will really be. I look back on players like Pato who should have taken over the world, but got his head turned by women and partying. Who knows how any of these kids like him or Felix are going to handle the fame and attention a huge price tag like that will attract?

I know Piatek just signed for Milan and United are not linked but him and Sancho would be amazing.

I read they may be having issues with FFP, so he might still be a possibility. Between him and Jovic, there's not many other potentially great strikers that are possible to get.

Was that the case really with Pato? I thought injuries got the better of him and his career stagnated.

I feel sorry for this fella if we sign him, at least for the next season. He is going to get a lot of flak the way Pogba and Martial do once people realize he is not magically turning us into a team who can score goals for fun.

His off the ball movement is incredible for a player of his age.

indeed. So far, both the CEO (Hans-Joachim Watzke) and sporting director (Michael Zorc) haven't said anything other that they don't have an intention of selling himthis summer. There has been no price set.

There is no reason for Dortmund to sell below Dembele fee either when they do sell. He likely has even more talent and potential than Dembele. And selling him back to an English club, they know the money involved in transfers there, and the pemium on buying English talent. A club will have to stump up a serious fee when they sell.

The only English club willing to overpay for Sancho would be United. Spurs won't, Liverpool neither, and I can't see City either. Unless you think Chelsea will?

No I can't. But that won't make the fee magically become less, if it's 'only' United who want to buy him. That's all I am saying, it will be a big fee, if and when it happens.

It'll be a big fee no doubt, but I can't see much competition for him domestically, unless Chelsea target him with the potential Hazard money..

The legend goes something like Pato met R9 who told him he could either live like a Kaka' or come party with him, he chose the latter and everything else slowly started falling apart. His talent is still nowhere near in doubt, but his work ethic and dedication came second to partying and meeting girls, so his conditioning and physical shape took a toll which led to injuries. This was a talent destined to rule the world, but there's so many obstacles that have nothing to do with the field that can get in the way, which is why I'm always wary of young players, even if I can't help myself get overly excited about young ballers like Sancho or Felix.

I am not sure he would go there even if they do. There is so much uncertainty with Chelsea, they change coaches so often, their owner seems to be losing interest. OK, I know maybe you can say with United things are a bit uneasy at the moment! But whatever happens, United will always be the bigger club. I would not be surprised if a couple of the other big European teams will be interested too. He could really work well in a Spanish team too I would say. And as he's been willing to leave his comfort zone to go to Dortmund in the first place, maybe he would also be happy to go to Spain. But you have to think for an English player, he has a big ambition to show his talent in the PL.

Agreed..

Think we'll have competition from PSG and possibly the Spanish clubs..

Even we buy him, he will become another Martial and Depay. Since Ronaldo, we have no ability to train a promising young player to become a higher level. Martial, Depay were 2 of most promising talent when we signed them. So please don’t waste of talent.

What coaches and German football experts say about him, and I think it's pretty much bang on point.
I just disagree. Him being worth that money is completely subjective. For example, they would argue he's currently not worth the money and United might view that he'll eventually be worth that money. None the less the two opinions are at odds with each other as one side thinks it's worth spending the money this summer while the other would say they shouldn't spend the money.

He just turned 19. I'm sure any fee spent isn't just looking at what player he is now. They're looking at what he can become with more development.

The question is whether it's the right decision for Sancho. First, I believe he'll get all the playing time at United because United lack a right winger. Secondly, he's not going to be the only player with pressure. That won't be unique to him. Pogba is already at the club. The new CB that is bought will have pressure on them. de Gea is the highest paid goalkeeper in the world. There will be pressure on him too.

So how long should United wait? Will next season be too soon as well? Who knows what players are at United after next season. Maybe Pogba is gone, in which case there will be more pressure on Sancho then. Maybe he costs more after next season. These are variables that can change the situation.

Agreed..

Barca have Messi Coutinho and Dembele on the wings and have no place for him.

Bayern, PSG (of Mbappe moves to the middle) and Madrid are our competition IMO. Not sure he'll prefer PSG in the French lesgue over United in the PL.

Famous last words. A player of that quality you get one chance to sign him before a club with pots of money sign him up. A lot of big clubs will be looking at this kid right now. Imo this is a similar position to when Rooney left Everton. If we hadn't got him another club would have and that might have tipped the balance against us winning things. People are dismissing him going back to city but pogba left here under a cloud and came back as a proven player so it could happen. Do we want to see this generations Wayne Rooney head to city or another one of our rivals? What if he goes to Liverpool?

Would Liverpool obliterate their transfer record for him considering they have Mane and Salah? Would City do the same considering Sane, Stirling and Mahrez are on their books?

If we don't sign this kid then somebody else will so IMO waiting around isn't an option any more than it was for Wayne Rooney or Christiano Ronaldo. Hes the best English player bar none from a very strong generation. Has the most assists in Europe at 19 years old. Holds the record for goals scored in a season in the bundesliga at his age. It'll probably be an English side who gets him or maybe one of the big two in Spain. Most likely if not us it'll be one of city, Liverpool or Chelsea ergo we either sign him or we play against him for the next 13 years. We've got a unique opportunity here to sign a player who if city hadn't Ballsed up we'd probably never have had a chance to sign. If he moves to one of the big clubs in England we'll never have that chance again.

Liverpool blew their transfer record on van dyke. If the right player comes along now theyre back in the big time then they'll take it. And he'd walk in ahead of Mahrez and Gabriel Jesus already.

Yes on both counts because at this point both of those clubs are better run (in a footballing sense) and they both have more ambition than us at the moment. Sorry to say this but its true.

Yup. Should be our #1 priority this summer by a distance. Dortmund simply will not refuse an offer in the £100m range, and we shouldn’t bat an eye at paying it in this market.

We literally don’t have one quality winger in our squad. This kid is actually worthy of the #7 shirt and would wear it for a decade or more.

Bingo.

Let's not go for cheaper options to try and be clever. We need the best talent.

I think if we bring in a quality creative player like Sancho on the right or playing behind rashford and martial as well as getting a midfielder who can help pogba in the creative stakes then the pace merchants like martial and rashford making the runs would look a hell of a lot more effective as would the full backs because there'd be players picking them out. At the moment we've got just one major creative outlet in pogba so opposing teams only need to nullify that one player to severely blunt our attacking prospects.

Liverpool broke their transfer record on Van Dyke because their defence was shite..

Jesus and Mahrez are squad players at City. He will have to fight it out with Stirling and Sane on the wing. Also I'm very doubtful Sancho will want to go back to City if reports are to be believed. It was widely reported that he couldn't wait to get out. Guardiola's recent comments also point to Sancho not returning to City as long as Guardiola is there.
