Jadon Sancho| Staying at Dortmund for now

I respect that he doesn't, whatever the motivation may be. If the shoe were on the other foot, I'd like to have a player who shows professionalism and respects their contract. I'm glad DDG and Pogba didn't kick up a fuss with transfer requests when Madrid were showing interest, for example.

It's risky, too.

Slapping in a transfer request essentially burns any bridges you have created with your current club, making for an awkward chapter in your career should the transfer you hoped for fail to materialize. Not to mention it makes you look like a dick.

I'm glad it's a rare event these days.

'generational talent' is abit of a leap.
This place has become obsessed with screaming generational talent. God forbids a talented kid shows up on the scene, they are automatically labelled a generational talent. It's quite funny to read honestly

Ignore what you read or see, Especially on SSN, They're repeating themselves, I hope we get it done as soon as possible.

ronaldo pretty much did but everyone loves him because he ’gave’ us one more season. Fair play to Fergie for the good man management but ronaldo had ages left on his deal and the money we got was actually low in hindsight. I was glad by the time he’d left. every other day it was ronaldo wants to leave. Ok we get it.

Pogba through his agent more or less has in the past.

Rooney when he saw the direction the club were heading in post ronaldo. He was right in hindsight it just took longer than he thought to fully show on the pitch. He was vilified instead of let leave to go to a club who was investing bigger money into the football side of things. Wonder what would have happened had barca or real come in for him instead of City and Chelsea. We eventually rewarded him for staying anyway with his big stupid last contract.

I’m not so sure... given Ed has final say on transfers and supposedly great people around him to advise him I would argue that he’/they are slowly getting better since the Pogba season but still with obvious mistakes littered throughout. Sanchez deal, Maguire a year later and more expensive, Bruno 1 1/2 years later as the club was on the verge of revolt. It’s all still way too reactionary instead of looking like a club with a solid plan we just rock up and say here we are we won’t be bullied and keep putting out briefs and stuff to that end. We Take ages and either walk away and come back the following year or pay damn near to the initial asking price while wasting weeks only being able to work on one deal at a time. I wouldn’t believe figures being published on transfers anymore either after the fact. Ed has a whole PR department to try and make him look competent these days. In what other job would you get 7/8 years and hundreds of millions of pounds and not win anything of note and still be in a job? My hunch on what’s currently saving them all is Fergie is partially behind Oles transfer picks and helping out behind the scenes. I could be wrong but that’s what it feels like.
Am not sure he is to blame regarding the Bruno transfer. I think he wasnt Ole's first choice last summer. Ericksen was the target and then Dybala. In the January window they where undecided because they thought Grealish or Maddison where the ideal choice but when non where available and our form became worse, they had to take action.

I know we have somehow looked incompetent but the reason its been difficult in the last few years beginning with the Pogba transfer is becuase it seems we didnt have a plan B, hence clubs try to mug us. This is no fault of Ed becuase the manager and scoutinb department come up with targets.

Going forward though, we need to get a sporting director that can plan our window and squad 2 to 3 windows ahead of time.

If that's true, we're lucky we ended up with the best one!

We should be doing this anyway without a sporting director. What else do these lads do for the rest of the year apart from sign sponsors? Surely there’s plenty of time? Signing Ighalo in the final minutes of Jan window. That’s not a team with their ducks in a row. He’s turned out good but why not get him in at the start of the window? It’s all too reactionary. Stuff that comes off is still feeling like a fluke to me. That’s fair enough as we are due some luck but I’d love to just see us say ok we need this player and have the deals done early in the window because the work was done during the season.

Might be true for some but Sancho definitely is. If you watch him regularly you would say the same. The stats he’s producing at his age is incredible.

Do you rate him that high? Mbappe is simply the best of next generation.

Yes, I do rate him that highly and while Mbappe is even better as forward Sancho is currently right behind him. And just to give my definition of "generational talent": Players who have a real shot at winning the world's best player awards. That doesn't mean you must be CR or Messi, I'd consider players like Xavi, Iniesta, Robben, Ribery etc. also as such so literally players who define football within their generation and I do think Sancho has the potential to do that (he is certainly off to a good start).

Also I'm not using "generational talent" as hyperbole here, Sancho has LITERALLY stats not seen in generations in the BL in his age class. He is outperforming even the outstanding "talents" of the last 10-15 years like Götze, Dembele, De Bruyne, Özil etc. and it isn't even close.
I also pointed out before that even Ribery and Robben in their best years didn't show better numbers than the 18-20 year old Sancho.
So people are welcome to consider it "hype" but if hype has ever been justified by actual performances/stats then it's Sancho.

for other players, yes “generational” talent is used too loosely.
But Sancho certainly is. If Sancho is not a generational talent with what he has displayed from the age of 17-20 then what is a generational talent?

Just to highlight how good Sancho is.
Comparing versus KDBs best bundesliga season.

KDB - 3000 minutes 30 G+a

Sancho - 2200 minutes 33 G+a

Sancho is 20. Those are mindblowingly good numbers. He is worth more than 120 mil easily of Dortmund wanted that.

And he will either be here for the rest of his career or we will sell on for a very good fee most likely.

It's a no brainer for us. We haven't owned a competent RW since Nani. Should go all out and get the best money can buy.

40 goals and 40 assists

Absolutely, fully agree. There is no doubt he’s a generational talent and yes that term has been thrown around a little too often lately but he certainly is one.

It all started with joao felix. Know way in hell that kid is a generational talent.

If Sancho can maintain or even eventually improve in the PL the. he will be in the running for the world player of the year at his peak He’s worth the money. He’s the wrong player to haggle over. Any other big club would take him for half next season and I reckon we will have blown our chance

My point exactly. The team we have now appears flukey to me. There is no thought and design to it. We bought a right back not great on the ball but monstrous in tackle and we want to play out from the back. Our CD is slow and we want to press and play high line. There is no thought in my opinion, hence the need for a DOF. This is going off topic of the thread.

Let's just get Sancho though and take it from there.
If that's true, we're lucky we ended up with the best one!
Conjectures but certainly seem like it when you consider all the briefings and how the deal was done. We didnt seem convinced about him, hence why didnt break the bank.

Mbappe. Better player, same generation.

Well yes, that would help because he’s in charge of the finances so we’d see someone spending someone else’s money without a care in the world or the repercussions for that spending at a later date. Looking at you Barcelona.
what? what is the difference if Woodward spends the money or a new DoF does? It's no Woodward's money...

Everyone should calm down, it was always going to take so long. My take on it is they're just finalising how the payment will be spread which in itself is a long drawn out process when you're talking over a hundred million smackers.

No it's not as simple as just saying pay the extra 10m, there's a thing called negotiation. If we just bow to any demand what happens next time we want a player? We get fleeced again.

Mbappe. Better player, same generation.
Ffs, everyone knows Mbappe is a generational player.

Do you realise you can have more than one generational player at the same time?

or is Mbappe the only generational player until he retires?

Mbappe. Better player, same generation.
He also went for quite a bit more at 180m euros.

Elite youth talent isn't getting any cheaper nowadays and will always be sold at a premium so we better get used to being able to stomach 100m+ fee's if we're trying to sign the top young talents in the game.

Pretty sure if Greenwood pans out the way we all hope and think he can, surely the club will value him at north of 100m easily

I'd also argue that Sancho and Mbappe are at a similar level already. Different styles of play, but Sancho is a phenomenon, just like KM.

If we end up with 80M for Grealish istead of 120M for Sancho I will be mad.

You could question the "generational talent" claims if he was only performing domestically, but he's consistently scoring and assisting at every level of the game, which is always a fair indicator as to a player's ability.

The Bundesliga:
Played: 32
Goals: 17
Assists: 16

The Champions League:
Played: 8
Goals: 2
Assists: 1

For England:
Played 6:
Goals: 2
Assists: 2

Plus tonnes of goals and assists for City and England U21's.

Rashford by comparison:

The Premier League:
Played: 31
Goals: 17
Assists: 7

The Europa League:
Played: 8
Goals: 2
Assists: 1

For England:
Played 6:
Goals: 3
Assists: 0

Rashford holds his own in the goal-scoring department, but Sancho leaves him for dead where assists are concerned.

I honestly don’t understand the mindset of our fans.

It feels like most of our fans have never watched Sancho play. I’ve watched him a number of times and he’s head and shoulders over everyone else in bundesliga.
He is an absolute game changer. You do whatever it takes to get hold of him. Believe me, 120m Euro is a bargain for him! Yes we’re in uncertain times but these times won’t last. Sancho will
Be around for over 12-13 years!

If we end up with 80M for Grealish istead of 120M for Sancho I will be mad.
That would be a punch in the gut I will be fuming Sancho wont come along again but we could get Grealish next year
