That interview is a few months back, and I don´t think Romero said we were negotiating with Dortmund at that point, but rather that United are interested in Sancho - which is not breaking news, really.

The narrative offered by Goldbridge now, btw, is that Simon Stone etc. are being used my United as part of their negotiation tactics (I´m here referring to the contrastive reports from British and German media 2 days ago). I suggest that the truth could be the opposite - that Romero, Falk etc. are being used by Dortmund.

Something tells me we're not going to hear anything new on this for a while, I mean, what else is there to do now other than sort a fee out with Dortmund?

Dortmund would be bigger fools if they let the deal fall through for difference of few millions and end up taking greater financial hit because of that they don't hold all the leverage in this transfer.

You talk as if you know for certain that if the deal falls through, Sancho will not sign a long-term contract with Dortmund! And you talk as if you know for certain that United hold all the leverage in this transfer!

He's the young talisman in their team and can easily wait for a few more years to keep improving in Dortmund before moving to a bigger club outside Germany. I am not aware of any discontent from the Sancho camp regarding continuing to play there as of now.

Exactly.
If Sancho runs down his contract, there's no reason to believe that United will remain front-runners to grab his signature. There will be at least half a dozen other clubs with United's charisma and players' wage-paying strength in the post-COVID world.

The new landscape includes trying to furlough all your staff and get the tax payer to pick up the bill whilst trashing your own city amidst a global pandemic lockdown.
 
Would Dortmund potentially risk 50m by not approving the sale this year ? I mean they are not going to get more than 60m next year. Barca for sure would be interested and real also could come into picture. Liverpool and City could also try their luck.

think, this year is our opportunity. Just pay up and close this .

The Times story about Liverpool's patience is just another example of filling the blanks. Media need clicks, eyeballs and attention to sell advertising. If there is a planned review period in a contract negotiation and neither side is actively revealing anything, the media can't just not report, they can't just fail to update, they need to keep the cycle going. So, easy enough to say something like 'Dortmund report no progress' or, 'possible stumbling block over fees in transfer'...or in this case, 'Liverpool are doing nothing' (only report it as if it's an analysis). It feeds the hunger for news, gets them some clicks and ultimately says very little, but it puts some folks here into a tailspin.

Well no shit it’s easier to be patient with money when your team wins the Champions League and Premier League in the space of two seasons, and no fecker looks like coming in to take your best players any time soon.

Guarantee you they’d be bidding £100m for players if Mane, Salah or Van Dijk were leaving.

For me a fair comparison is sterling. A young English winger/front three attacker moving at a similar age. If he reached what sterling has at City would we be happy with the 120m? Sterling has 99 goals in 241 games with city.

what i dont understand is why is every transfer window a never ending saga/drama with us?

look at chelsea, quick couple of signings no headlines, same with city as soon as Bournemouth went down they got Ake, whilst we are still too busy zipping/unzipping our pants it seems

The Goldbridge Romano interview was literally live a few hours ago. The Rashford one is old.

The hilarious part about this topic is the the supposed inside source from the podcast, Ruhrnachrichten writer Dirk Krampe has not broken a exclusive story about Dortmund or shown crucial inside informations for over a decade now. Ruhrnachrichten in general has lost the status of being the top source for Borussia Dortmunds inner dealings a while ago. The reason for that is that the two persons who had by far the best contacts and the most goodwill in the club are no longer employed there. One of them (Sascha Fligge) actually became Dortmunds director of communication in 2012 which coincided with a drastic cut of breaking stories from the Ruhrnachrichten. After that it became crucial to look at the author of interesting stories from their side as the only journalist with good contacts left was Matthias Dersch, who in turn switched to Kicker three years ago and elevated them in terms of trustworthiness when it comes to the club.

Ruhrnachrichten, being the local newspaper, still reports a ton about Borussia Dortmund but in terms of breaking news and juicy informations they have fallen behind both Kicker and Bild by this point. Ironically, Bild, whch used to be utter rubbish when it came to inside informations about Dortmund, is by now probably the publication with the best contacts and the highest number of breaking news.

This does not make Sanchos transfer any less likely, though. I still fully expect this deal going through, but I don´t see this being dragged out.
