Jadon Sancho| Staying at Dortmund for now

Nope I didn't say that. Maybe they have got wind of Sancho being available and have taken the option to let Werner go elsewhere. Not being prepared to pay 50m doesn't mean they don't have 50m does it? Might mean they have other targets.

And whilst we are on the subject I don't think it's Sancho they might be going for. O. Dembele seems more likely going off the press.

Yeah, but what the press don't understand regarding Dembele is that he has no intention to leave, so it's not going to be easy for Barcelona to move him against his will. Sancho is a possibility at least because he's willing to move. I don't think Liverpool are broke, but I think they have only one big move on their books this summer and with their team being so dominating in the league, any moves demands extra scrutiny and whether it's even worth pursuing without losing what got them here in the first place.

The replies to that are great...

Here's the new key to happiness in the 21st century, don't read comments.

The Athletic are saying otherwise. Liverpool simply don't have the funds to spend north of £50m post COVID, that's compounded with the fact they want to tie down VVD and Alisson to bigger contracts.

Demebele would be a loan with the option to buy at the end. I think they're going to have to sell Mane or Salah to raise the funds needed for someone like Sancho.

How can that be possible?

Yeah, I know. Just can't help myself sometimes and then immediately regret it.

I like to always remind myself that only 20% of Twitter users are responsible for 80% of the content there, and when it gets to politics, a lot of them are farm bots designed to create arguments with one another hoping to bring in real people to senseless arguments and to create division. So no matter what garbage you see, it's just a tiny minority that has a loud bark but no bite, and they don't reflect the real world.

Lets get a few things straight. I am not defending Sancho because we're being linked with him, I'm defending him because he got a haircut in his own home, then posed for a photo without a facemask.

It is not the 5th or 6th time he's been dropped for disciplinary reasons.

He has been dropped before now because he questioned a manager who brought him off after 36 minutes of a heavy Bayern defeat and chose to scapegoat him by saying "we lost because Sancho wasn't good enough".

I hate to be that guy but every time there's a young successful, talented black English footballer, there's a bunch of people who can't wait to question his attitude. No one questioning his attitude has actually bothered to remember their actions when they were 19. All things considered, for a young lad he's hardly done anything wrong and some of you are asking way too much of someone who had the maturity to move abroad at a very young age and leave his friends and family behind to pursue a career.

Stop bringing his attitude into question. People can make mistakes and will make mistakes often, it doesn't mean we have to label them or write them off as human beings.

I'm sorry but at this point you are just making up alternative realitites. He wasn't dropped after the Bayern game, infact he started the next game.

And trying to turn this into racism is extremely weak. Him getting dropped several times is a fact that can be verified. None of his teammates piling up the same amount of incidents, despite some of them being very young and very talented themselves and to stoop to that level: being black, is also a fact.
In his first year he was dropped back to the youth team for disciplinary reasons, this season he was suspended against Gladbach, dropped to the bench against Barca and subbed off in the first half against Bayern. And that's just the stuff that escalated into a public reaction.
Im not saying this is extreme stuff for a teenager with such a rapid rise and some of them just mature out of it, but others don't and I think people should at least acknowledge that risk, given that United would probably have to pay a record fee.

Lots of red flags with this guy. I'm getting worried.

He also seems like a guy that will stop trying as hard once he gets paid.
Are you just constantly on the wind up ?

Have you bookmarked all the replies on the off chance he pulls a Ravel so you can gloat again ?

That's definitely true for some of them but I reckon a depressing amount of the responses to that are from real people.

Are you guys watching him play or are you commenting about stuff that doesn't really matter? Thread is bumping.

To be fair, Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham and most other clubs around Europe are also in the same position so it's not a massive surprise.

Spurs just built a massive stadium in London and Arsenal are nobodies.

Liverpool are European Champions, where's the dosh gone if they can't afford £50 mil? They've made about £20 mil profit in transfers this season as well.

I wish I had one right now. Been months.

Been months for me too, but largely by choice tbh. It isn’t bothering me because there’s nowhere to go anyway. But I’ve seen plenty of people with haircuts, and I could get my barber to come to the house if I really wanted to, or go to his. And not one person would give a shit whether I wore a mask while I was in his chair.

I tried to give myself a haircut yesterday and the results were less than satisfactory, I'm now a reluctant skinhead....not great these days in post George Floyd America.

Yeah, you're right about that. Farm bots cost money so they're used for political discourse, but comments on sports topics are just a tiny, tiny, tiny minority of people who follow the sports, so don't let them bum you out because they're definitely good at that.

Back on topic, Sancho's looked lively, for as poor as he looked his first game back, it feels like he's back the last few games. Give him all the haircuts.

Many, many other players have done similar but our press always jump on these lads because they want you to buy into this notion he has an attitude problem. And you better believe it's racially motivated.

Rooney would regularly go out on the piss, players have failed recreational drug tests and the press haven't gotten wind of it but have been mysteriously "injured" for the exact amount of time a recreational drugs ban is, Yorke was regularly late for training and was fined by the club accordingly, this only came out after he retired. Johnny Evans was 2 minutes late for a team meeting, Van Gaal read him the riot act in front of all the players and he put in a transfer request and left United, does he have an attitude problem as well? Why weren't these stories huge? Why aren't these players a "problem"?

You don't know the context of why Sancho was late for training. Maybe driving in a foreign country for the first time on roads he doesn't know and signs in a language he doesn't understand had something to do with it? Maybe he got a lift with a team mate and they were both late? Who makes the headline in that instance?

This is like Rahsford all over again. People saying things like "he needs taking down a peg or two", "getting too big for his boots", "he's got an attitude problem", all because he took a couple of free kicks from 30 yards out.

The only risk is Sancho moving to United and being subjected to ignorance by people who don't realise they're projecting institutional racism, when really, a 19 year old lad with the world at his feet got a fecking haircut and was late for training a few times.

Think they've still got large chunks of the VVD and Alisson transfers to pay off, and now they have no match day revenue also.

EDIT: Also a stadium expansion to pay off.

Future revenue is a factor as well though. Paying back Sky money, might not be any ticket sales for next year. Its not just the here and now. Spending what you can now is like going on a spending spree before getting demoted

The thing is: I'm not the English press. And if you collect several disciplinary issues over several years, while your team mates don't then chances are you have a disciplinary problem, however small or big. The English press being racist doesn't mean that black kids can't make mistakes.

While I think race can sometimes play a role into it, where at least the criticism is elevated, it also comes with the hype. The only thing people love more than building up someone is taking them down. Sancho is probably aware of this, he's not the first nor the last that will have to deal with it, and it'll only get worse with his impending big move. It's an unfortunate part of the job, but that's only if he chooses to listen to the noise, which he really doesn't have to.

That being said, I don't think it's a ridiculous notion to be cautious about possible disciplinary issues, but I think those may be a bit overblown.

Aye, everyone would have felt much safer in the world if he’d inly had a mask on in his pic.

The sentiment of caring about COVID is fine, however, this is a nothingness. I’m almost certain that pretty much everyone, including yourself, have not been wearing a fecking mask indoors during any visitation with friends and family for 3 months.

So I get why you're being snarky but I happen to know a few things about the spread of viral infections.

Firstly, The mask does not stop you from being infected, that's a common "logical" misconception.

A virus spread by riding along on microscopic particles or even bacteria that gets expelled with every breath. Having a mask on limits the amount of virus that can escape, as well as limits your own exposure. But airborne particlesa are not the main culprit, and this is where why its stupid get get a on-call hairdresser to drop by when the entire league depends on no one getting infected:

Every single time you touch sometime, your nose, an item, a doorhandle, you deposit bacteria and if you're infected, more often than not, a colony of virus as well on the surface. The next time you touch your face, and people touch their faces over 16 times per hour on average. A handshake, the scissors having been in contact with someone who's infected and now happily clipping away near your face, poor hygiene from the hairdresser. It takes so wildly little to spread something as eagerly to infect as this particular strain of virus.

THAT is the reason you do not invite fkn hairdresser to your home when you are responsible for not getting infected. MOST PEOPLE are just fine. But hundreds of thousands globally are not, as they are dead.

In Norway we havent really worn facemasks at all. We have however, closed public gathering spots, services and the like (with pay), during the outbreak until the R=N got below 0, as to control the rate of the outbreak. I get that it's a nothingburger, but this principle doesnt work if people don't give a sh*t and just go "OH ITS FIIIINE". Social distancing, not touching your face, and washing your hands in soapy water helps. The more soap bubbles the better. The soap actually pierces the membrane protecting the virus, effectively killing it. Antibac only kills bacteria, but it also washes away virus that are attached to the bacterial celllwall.

The point is: Just fkn cut your own hair.

This pandemic spread throughout the world because people are "just doing this and that".

If Jadon Sancho gets infected with Covid-19 he's going to be contageous before he develops any symptoms or possibly even tests positive for the infection.

it's a BLANKET RULE that you do not introduce outside people into your space just so we can actually controlt he spread.

I fkn HATE that people are so massively callous about the seriousness of containing the spread. If Sancho wanted a haircut he would have just shaved his head or done it himself, it's only hair.

The bundesliga did not fine him for the George Floyd protest. There were other protests for George Floyd in the Bundesliga and the league are not punishing them. Breaching protocol for vanity however, is just so massively stupid.

Cato! We are in 100% agreement. On top of that I’m starting to warming up against Ole Gunnar. He’s doing magic atm. WTF. We are heading in the direction. Long may it continue.

Regarding Sancho I’m still not sure if he’s worth €100m+. My personal limit is a fee of maximum €80-90m, above that I’m 50/50. Not sure about his attitude but I’m Old School and a grumpy old man so maybe my thoughts are irrelevant.

Did well in the build up for the goal though, he's now forgiven.

Last few pages were mind numbing to read. Thankfully the lad answers on the pitch, would undoubtedly do the same playing for us next season

Really hope that City gets banned, that would help a lot. However I would disagree that our budget would be 15m in any case.
Not being in the CL United's budget usually seems to be around 70M pounds. So if for example COVID-19 resulted in United losing 55M overall, then it makes sense. What do you think our budget is in terms of net spend?

His usage of the ball; the timing of his passes; the quality of said passes; the way he moves into open space after playing the initial pass, all things that suggest he is going to be sublime in an elite team.

His reading of play and manipulation of it really is special. Nevermind the dribbling, assists or goals; his fundamental understanding of the game and the way he plays across so many positions on the pitch will make him an exceptional cog in any functioning team.

Put him in a side with the equivalent guile and technical ability and he will be unplayable. I'm glad he and Messi play the same position and that his value should put them off, because he looks like the perfect cohort to sync up with Messi and Barca and be an absolute menace.

I think our side, with the attack we're assembling, can provide the superfluous football that someone like him will absolutely thrive in.

He's an exceptional talent.

Everything goes through him for this Dortmund side and he's 20!

I'd be over the fecking moon if we sign him. Forget all the noise, he's genuinely one of the best players on the planet at the age of 20!

United have cash reserves of £120m that's reserved for transfers coming into the summer, however transfers are paid off over multiple seasons in instalments. We won't be spending £150m+ but I expect us to spend £100m and maybe sell a few to raise capital.

Good post, this. People equally couldn’t wait to jump on his back about how he came back to training overweight — despite the fact that he was actually injured at the time too.

Also - genuinely asking here, as I didn't see - was there any actual official confirmation that he came back overweight? The only thing I saw at the time was one photo where he was arching his back and therefore it gave his torso a curve but which no-one could possibly have interpreted in good faith as showing him out of shape.

He broke the rules. He got fined. He doesn't agree with the fine. None of which is surprising. He is a 20 y/o. Of course there will be immature behavior. There will be more. Can you go back to when you were 20 yrs old and honestly say you never broke any rules?

Anyway he had a good game. So skilful on the ball.

Could well be true. However don't they get like £60m prize money for just winning the title?

Dont think we will have the funds either for Sancho unless we raise it through sales. If we sell Smalling, Lingard and maybe 1 other we could get him. Don't think we will be slapping 90m down on anyone without recouping some back.

It is hilarious what passes for a controversy in Europe. I can't tell if Europeans just think differently to Americans or if four years of Trump presidency has made Americans numb to everything but the most shocking events.

This will be a non story in the US if it was a basketball / NFL player doing it. Will probably get a pat on the back from the establishment let alone being fined.

Or shot dead.

We'll clear out for sure, Rojo, Smalling, Sanchez and maybe another one or two where possible but we still have a cash reserve of £120m, and transfer fees aren't paid upfront. They're paid over years in installments anyway.

We have the funds.

We owe about 150m from previous deals still apparently and also are anticipating a 80 to 100m hit from covid19. The net debt has also risen more than 100m and We also bought Bruno in January don't forget.

I wouldn't be so sure we can throw our weight around this summer. Not saying we won't get anyone but I don't think people fully appreciate the situation still.

If we sign sancho and I pray we do as he's exactly what we need I imagine we will be selling quite a few players to offset it.

The hysterics are one thing but you can't be serious, no need to flat out make stuff up to justify your hand wringing
Dude hundreds of thousands of deaths and millions of cases. Of course but the point stands non the less even if I wrote it wrong.

I’m convinced he’s coming. Really think it’ll happen, but not until after the Bundesliga season is over.
