Jadon Sancho| Staying at Dortmund for now

It’s testament to how good our recruitment has become that most of us agree that we only really need 2 or 3 signings this summer. Sancho being the headliner and it also looks like Bellingham has the chance to come here too whatever happens. There’s sure to be some more interesting youth prospects brought in too. we are making mostly positive moves behind the scenes. It’s Very pleasing to finally see some progress being made in the market. I don’t mind if the club spend really big money on sancho. He’s absolutely the player we need for the RW. He’ll be worth it over his career here and for England.

It’s a testament to our manager, who is doing a fecking fantastic job and constructing this team from the very roots in the best way to guarantee continuity, not just a quick hit.

Sancho and Bellingham would be an epic transfer window. Bang on where we need strengthening and totally on point for United’s philosophy of young and British.

Ighalo extending is a given as well.
NO Greallish? Belllingham is 16, I don't see him as an epic signing as he isn't going to come straight in and dominate. Sancho and Greallish would be epic as these are 1st team starters for an immediate impact!

That would also be a super window. What I’m saying is that if we sign Sancho and Bellingham that would be a great window. It would seem churlish to turn around and say “well, I’d have preferred Grealish”.

Where does Grealish start though? He'd have to get past Rashford and Fernandes for a starting spot.

Is there an argument to be had that with the loss of earnings for many clubs during this time (United included) - is it not a time where we could actually flex our financial muscle more than most?

Im trying to figure out if the current situation around COVID_19 helps or hinders United signing their top targets.

Whilst most clubs will be reeling from this could we not go a little crazy and throw BIG money at Sancho and say Kane??

Far fetched I know. However surely United have a stronger footing than most to come out of the other side of this predicament, and one of the few who can more accurately forecast their earnings.

Is this our philosophy?
I probably should have said "young and preferably British". I think this is true, given the choice being British I think has always been something our recruitment team has valued highly.

Its not far fetched at all. I was thikning about this earlier actually having listened to a podcast that basically said with the crazy global economic situation we will have when the window opens (whenever that might be) there won't be much of a market. On the face of it that's a position that's easy to understand, huge capital outlays are generally predicated on sensisble risk management, stable financial markets etc.

However, United are amoung a handful of clubs that can weather this storm significantly better than the rest and, as you said, be in a position to perhaps take advantage of other clubs who are more imapcted. Whether that is a moral thing to do, I'm not so sure (e.g. Dortmund might rely much more on gate receipts and match day revenue, so are hit much worse and are in big trouble, therefore we offer much less for Sancho knowing they have to sell).

Even signing Sancho and making Ighalo deal would be a great window.

Been saying this for a while

Sancho
Bellingham/Grealish
Ighalo

Would be a fantastic window.

Yet there's still people saying we need all of them plus Partey and Neves

It depends on a lot of factors. A major risk is that the 20/21 seson is bust, the costs related to loss of broadcasting and matchday income would be a disaster.

Dortmund will be very keen to sell Sancho, which was always their plan this summer, but as always, and especially now, that fee is going to be cash up front. Their financial situation might help us drive down the price so that we can justify the amount

I actually think we'll sign 4, the 4th being Zakaria or Partey. It's all dependent on Pogba at the moment I think.

4 would be great. Would go against our recent transfer history though, even more so if Sancho is included. I personally can't see it.

If I was a betting man: Sancho, Grealish, Ighalo

If McTominay or Fred can't adapt to a holding, maybe a DM in the "winter window" (whenever that'll be)

Agree that those 3 would be great additions but I think we will still need a proper DM as I don't know how much Matic can be trusted as the first choice DM (although he's been pretty good recently) if McT gets Injured.
I would love it if we can get both Bellingham and Grealish as I feel both of them are too good to miss out on (especially Grealish), but I don't see that happening unless we sell Pogba

I agree that a DM would be good.

But I don't think it's realistic. I can see us getting 3 players, and DM as it stands, is 4th priority.

If Pogba stays, a DM should be our priority rather than getting another attacking midfielder like Grealish.

Yes this is the exact train of thought I was having.

Of course, I agree, it’s morally questionable but at the end of the day it’s not United’s doing and something is only worth what somebody is willing sell it for (in this case.)

Will be very interesting to see if the hugely inflated market for player purchases will be almost reset as a result of COVID_19.

In a way a few purchases from the likes of ourselves for players like Sancho or Kane will go some way to setting the bar when it comes to player acquisitions.

In a way it would benefit all clubs if we managed to get Sancho on the cheap if that meant the bar was set a LOT lower than before this pandemic when it comes to player values. Such a strange situation.

So basically, us signing Sancho will single handedly save football!

I’m in!

Sancho, Bellingham, Grealish, Ighalo. That would be an epic transfer window.

For me Grealish is a must - we cannot rely on Pogba staying (even if he does, he'll be gone soon enough) and I certainly don't want to see Lingard or Pereira in the team if Fernandes needs a break/gets injured.

Dont get the argument against Grealish as we now have Fernandes. The ideal is 2 quality players for every position. Get him in and lets start adding not only quality, but depth.

I think Grealish was a priority until Bruno arrived. I don't think we're signing him now. Perhaps he'll end up at Chelsea.

Sancho would be the perfect summer marquee signing.

Sancho, Bellingham and Ighalo would really show intent.

If Pogba stays, I think it only moves DM to priority 3.

1. RW
2. Back up Striker
3. DM

Is Grealish assuming Pogba goes or to add to our squad?

Ye. I think we need to assume Pogba is leaving. How many games has he actually played for us in the past 12 months? Whether or not that's down to him, the club needs to assess how to get the most value from our player going forward- playing here or cash - because we haven't got our value this year at all.

Jesus, if he didn't play much for us, so he must be leaving? He can't play because he was injured, but whenever he's fully fit, he always starts for us.

Grealish and Pogba are different players but an only common technical thing they have is their creativity.

With the talk of United wanting a right winger for years now, the vacant 7 shirt and the rebuild of young, exciting, energetic players, the stage seems set for Jadon Sancho to come to United. Be made up if we got him.

I'm not sure what your disagreeing with.

Not a single person thinks Grealish and Pogba are similar players, but everyone agrees that losing Pogba would put us back to the same problem we had before (reliant on one player creating chances with no back ups incase of injury)

I agree that Pogba has had unfortunate injuries this season. But the club needs to assess if those injuries are likely to continue. People are acting like they expect him back to full form straight away, where we have no indication that will be the case. By the time football restarts, he'd have hardly kicked a ball (competitively) for 12 months. No one but the physios and sport scientists will be able to make a guess.

If Pogba signs a new deal and stays then Sancho and a quality defensive midfielder plus Bellingham will be a great window as we really don’t need too much in regards to players in IF Pogba stays.

In a fully firing 4-2-3-1 with De Gea, Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Shaw, Fred/McTominay, Pogba, Sancho, Fernandes, Rashford and Martial I think we have the perfect balance in a starting 11 and only Liverpool would be better but we’d look a great bet longer term especially with the young players coming through too.

I still feel that in this scenario, with Pogba staying, a back up striker is more urgent than a DM.

Lets say we have a 100m transfer budget. Sell Pogba - 100m. Sell Jones + Rojo + Smalling + Lingard 50m. Thats 250m to work with.

Get Zakaria and Grealish for 100m. Sancho and Ighalo for 150m. My Dream window

hmmmm I can't say I disagree but at the same time I'm greedy and would want another marquee name. If we've convinced Bellingham then it shouldn't be huge money, likewise Ighalo is desperate to stay at the club he loves, the big money is obviously Sancho. Would like us to show our financial strength after this virus leaves football in a mess, we need to stamp intent all over the game that rises from the ashes!

Sancho, Bellingham, Ighalo and......................... Kane!!!! Yes Kane. Don't care what it costs, NOW is the time to get two big names, most clubs will be reeling from the loss of earnings.

Like I say, let's stamp our authority back on this mofo.
