Jadon Sancho| Staying at Dortmund for now

Liverpool have spent big money in recent years and do so again if they feel the player is worth it to them. I hope they don’t get Sancho, but I think all of these equations as to why every other top club will not be after him is fanciful nonsense. They will all be interested to varying degrees, Liverpool included.

The thing that always puzzles me about this, is why would he come to United with no guaranteed CL, haven’t won it in 12 years, no Prem in 7 years, managerial situation in flux and no other signs of backing from the boars

I’d go Liverpool, Bayern (they’ll be getting rid of Countinho soon), Spain or just stay at Dortmund

If we ever want to get back to the top we need a player like Sancho.

@woody if you want a shot at redemption you better make this happen. It won't make the 7 years of hurt go away all of a sudden but it would be a start. And in the process you'll secure at least another year without any balaclavas so it's a win-win situation all around.

We're desperate and will therefore be willing to offer him an enormous salary.

I agree, it's an uphill task, especially if we go into next season with no CL football and Solskjaer still at the helm.

Maybe he wants to come back to England. That still leaves Liverpool, Man City and Chelsea he could choose. He is more likely to be starting weekly here or Chelsea but it seems Chelsea can’t afford him. That leaves us.
From a players perspective, it would be a great chance (if we get a better coach) to become a part of history at one of the biggest clubs in the world by helping us get back to where we should be.

No chance. The guy will be hot property in the summer, many top clubs will be in for him if Dortmund agree to sell.

We will very likely fail to make even Europa League this year and lose our most talented player in the summer. The chances of Sancho being interested in joining United are pretty much zero.

It will be a very similar situation with the de Ligt situation last summer. We will try, but ultimately the player will have little interest in joining United.

Because United are a huge fecking club? Seems to be lost in all of this

He might want to return to England and if Liverpool won't spend 100M for him and he's not going back to City (who have wingers already, though maybe a Sane replacement if Pep decides Bernardo's future is in the middle) that only leaves United, Chelsea (who've just signed a winger), Arsenal too poor and Spurs probably aren't spending 100M on a player either.

Could win it by default! And we do have Rashford, Maguire and Wan-Bissaka on the England team. Hell maybe he loves playing in front of Wan-Bissaka knowing he doesn't need to track back (or hates it since he can't make space for him by crossing, who knows).

I will say this again, United fans have a lower opinion of their own club than anyone else in football does.

Take away all of the hysteria, we’re a PL Big 6 club. It’s that simple, anyone of that group can attract big players. Some of them can’t or don’t pay as much so are a little lower in the rankings, but I don’t see this same shock when any other Big 6 side, including Arsenal and Spurs sign or chase players in demand. If a player wants to come to England, they want to go to one of the top clubs, and be paid well. They will all submit their proposals from there on.

Despite everything I’ve read again and again and again over the recent years by so-called United fans on here trying their hardest to convince everyone that nobody would want to come here - I’ve not seen a player choose Manchester City over us yet. Actually, Nasri did I think, although our fans were not even talking this shit then, and City had gone longer than us without winning a trophy anyway, so he’s another example of how a player could join us now. Since then, we’ve gone against each other for Persie, Fred, Sanchez and Bailly and won every time.

Also, I’ve said many times, if you want ‘guaranteed Champions League football’, don’t come to England. No PL team can offer you that, beyond the very next season. Liverpool cannot guarantee CL footy beyond next year, City can just about guarantee it for next year and beyond that there’s no guarantee at all. Then it all resets again and Chelsea could just as easily win the league or Arsenal could finish 4th. 6 doesn’t go into 4, and all have top players and money (well, Arsenal are falling behind a bit), and could all fight for the title in any given year.

Go to Real or Barca, who can ‘guarantee CL football’ by virtue of being in a league with 4 CL places and only 3 teams.

Always draws a smile when people ask why a player would come to United. We're still a massive draw, and can pay better than most (never mind the merits or otherwise of that). We won't be in the doldrums forever. It looks like Sancho is definitely on the cards. Just like Poch might be as well. If we qualify for UCL next season it could be a slam dunk (yes I know Woody et al's record). Even if we don't, it's still possible. Money still talks...

The thing that puzzles me in the forum is the HUGE negavity. Are we in a bad state -yes, did we make horrible transfers in the past 7 years - yes. However we are still one of the biggest clubs!!! One of the richest clubs, with pride and history. And yes, we still have the huge amounts of cash to help us make up this mess. We are not in the AC Milan state to be so negative around!

When City got the money in 2008, they started getting big names in the team from the start - Robinho, Tevez, players from Arsenal, then they got Silva Aguero (which turned around the odds). So where was the Champions League, where was the history, the legends around the City team???

But big names or talented young players were bought. And its not only City... PSG, Chelsea when Abramovich came... Even Liverpool had some good transfers in their team when they were worse than us now.

Currently when Chelsea buys Ziyech, most here say that they can also go for Sancho. However if we say that we will buy Sancho AND Grealish... most here say “no way, we cant afford them both if we dont sell Pogba”
Now what in the world is this thinking???

So please real fans of Manchester United, dont ever doubt the aura and the magnitude of our team!

I just hope that the cash we have as a big team, will really be used... and used shrewdly in the summer. Just go and fix the positions we need to, even if we have to pay extra. Because in the long-term one summer of expenses will bring us success and profit.

That record is better than any other PL team’s who we have this huge inferiority complex over. In his time, we’ve done more big deals than any other club, and broken the transfer record most times too. If a player is open to joining us and we want him, Woody’s record works is a positive. Especially at the figures being quoted.

Why would you leave Dortmund now ? Surely stay for another season or two and see what happens, they're building something there.

If Chelsea are signing Zyiech (a player we really should have been in for) they're probably out of the race. Assuming he wants tii come back to England that leaves us, Liverpool and City as potential buyers. Not looking likely, but not impossible. We need to line up alternatives though.

Do some of you even realize he was bought to play in the middle and for the same amount Chelsea will get for Barkley and a bit?

Chelsea wanted Isco with the intention of adding more creativity in the middle because Mount is pants, now they got him for a price of nothing.

With Alonso, Emerson, Barkley, Bakayoko, Moses, Drinkwater, Zappacosta all likely to fetch a fee, maybe even Kante on top of those 150 millions already reported they easily can spend on Sancho and the likes.

A couple days ago it was reported Chelsea made 173 millions net profit in the last two transfer periods largest in history.

Otamendi, I think, at least we were constantly linked with him that summer. I agree with you though.

Ziyech wont be brought in to play on the wing IMO. He is coming in as a number 10,someone to unlock a defence behind the striker.
I still reckon we will be in the running for Sancho, but it'll be CL dependant

He is only joining a CL club, that much is clear
He's by far the player who should be the priority for us this summer. However this I feel really lowers our chances. Unless we can use a manager like Pochettino or a bigger name to attract players, it would be difficult to see someone like Sancho who has the world at his feet going to a 6th-7th placed PL team with no CL football no matter what our stature and budget. Especially if we have a bang average manager like Ole in charge. I mean, it would be quite the drop off for a player who is the level now where he could go to one of the top teams in Europe.

I generally agree with you that there are no guarantees with regards to champions league, but it's also pretty clear that the English teams who have found more recent success on the pitch are also more successful with attracting top players.

For years, Liverpool fans had to watch top players they wanted sign elsewhere, partially due to lack of funds, but also due to perceived inability to compete for trophies. Even under Klopp, they didnt attract major stars like Van Dijk and Alisson until they had already secured champions league.

United might still be able to attract a player like Sancho, as they landed Pogba without champions league, but it's certainly more of an uphill battle now.

I have this horrible feeling we will put all our eggs in this basket confident that we will get champions league only to miss out and be left with nobody when Sancho goes elsewhere and Ziyech rips it up for Chelsea. We simply have to have a backup plan in place for this position if we do end up in the Europa league again next season.

Do some of you even realize he was bought to play in the middle and for the same amount Chelsea will get for Barkley and a bit?

How would anyone know that when player isn't even signed, haven't played and everyone is just assuming what might happen.

I can't see him coming to United

a- we will probably not be in the CL and Sancho would want to play EPL football
b- his fee will be astronomical and there's a huge rebuilding to be done. We can't blow our budget on 1 player as we did last season on that defender who crippled Leicester's season cause he signed for us
c-Pochs isn't that keen on wingers

We should have gone for Ziyech.

Just spunk £120m to Dortmund today and announce Poch and Grealish will be joining him. Then we can have some long awaited hope

Obviously if we get him, it’ll be funded by Pogba

Yeah absolutely amazes me that there are some people's XI for next season with both Pogba & Sancho in them, the only reason Utd are seriously looking at this transfer is because they are certain that Pogba will be sold in the summer. I also admire anyone who thinks we have any chance at all of signing him without champions league football. I will happily be proved wrong on this one but can only see us losing out to europe's big guns if we are in the europa league.

Yeah, pretty sure Pogba will go this summer. I think we'll get Grealish, Jimenez and a winger - which could be Sancho if we get CL. If not, then maybe someone like Bale?

Selling Pogba and buying Sancho will be like one step forward and two steps back. Without Midfield reinforcement we are going nowhere.

That made me question the decisions made by Salah,Klopp, Fabinho, or Van Dijk for joining a trophyless club. No ambition whatsoever.

No he wouldn’t want to join us under our current situation. Make no sense at all.

But, let’s show him the money. Let’s give him martial wage of 250k per week. If that’s not enough, let’s show him Sanchez wage of 375k. He may likes it.

Klopp was the coup, the trajectory he has them on is why those players signed for Liverpool. He’s a clever man and would have sold the ‘make history by winning us the league’ vision, and I’m sure they lapped it up. Ole does not have the same draw, nowhere near.

Them going for Sancho makes perfect sense really, Salah will probably go to the Olympics in the summer so Sancho will start the season. Salah and Mane will also go to the AFCON in January 2021 leaving them light up there for a couple more months, so he’ll get plenty of games. They will also be conscious that the current front 3 are all around the same age, and it’ll be impossible to replace all three at the same time. It would make sense for them to start that process early, bed one in and continue on in to the next windows.

I then think they’ll sell Salah at the end of the 20/21 season (noone will buy him for big money with his international commitments next season) and Sancho will become the starter.

We all know that's bullshit. Until he won CL, he was a laughing stock, a high profile bottler.

Guarantee CL football every year. I think that’s the minimum ambition for every top player, especially when playing under top manager, with project they believe in.

Is that a genuine comment? A laughing stock?
You haven’t read comments from the German fans then.

“Clown” is one of the kinder comments I saw.

Point is, given time and resources a good coach can become a great one. We tend to forget the clamour to fire Fergie especially after the 5-1 at Maine Rd

None of them were high profile players when Liverpool signed them.

Liverpool signing Klopp was good decision and also lucky with the timing. It's like winning lottery.
