Jadon Sancho| Staying at Dortmund for now

Why are you anticipating a scenario where it will be impossible for us to qualify for the Top 6?’.

This place has descended into some sort of competition over who can put misery the other it seems.

If we achieve Top 6 and sign a good manager during window, then it is the thing which is going to define our Transfer Window.
If Ole gets sacked and some good manager is signed or announced before the end of season, signing Sancho is the thing which is going to define our window.

Matt Law: Jadon Sancho is also on Chelsea’s radar, but his £100 million-plus price tag and the intense competition for his signature from the likes of Manchester United, potentially make Ziyech an easier signing.

Looks like Chelsea have a deal in place to sign Ziyech instead. Could have a clear run at the lad now...

It seems we priced Chelsea out with our offer for Sancho if Matt Law who is considered the best Chelsea source is anything to go by.

Nizaar Kinsella who is a Chelsea correspondent also reported afew months back that we had a £119m offer on the table for Sancho.

Eye watering stuff, but I am all for spending big on big english talent.

It is, but he's going to be worth it. The biggest English talent of his generation - with inflation is it really that much more than Rio for £30m?

Exactly, I would love to have him, Bellingham, Greenwood and Rashford at the club. Would be an amazing English core.

Assuming Pogba departs for a big fee, we can afford to bring a player like Sancho in. However, the problem won't be persuading Dortmund to sell, it will be convincing the player to come.

A lot easier to sell Sancho on United if Pogba was still on the team.

Well, probably, but there's no chance of that happening. We need the Pogba fee to be able to afford a deal like this (unless we're willing to draw heavily on our cash reserves).

To be honest, it depends on how these things are structured. Arsenal basically bought Pepe with a credit card.

120m for the next big thing hardly seems an unlikely sum of money, especially being English.

He'd be absolutely huge coming back here, At United with the 7 shirt

I don't see us being favourites but hopefully we can convince him and give him the best economic package.
It seems to me that the view of the transfer market is completely skewed. People seem to be suggesting - not you particularly - quite casually that we should be just paying that sort of money as if it's par for the course. If we paid £120m for him - and I'm not saying that's not possible - it'd instantly make him the third most expensive player of all time, behind Neymar and Mbappe. That's the sort of fee that no one seems to want to give us for Pogba, despite the fact he's coming into his peak years, has won a WC and is a marketing phenomenon.

What was Mbappe's fee? Sancho is 19 and already statistically the best attacker on the planet this year behind Messi.

We also can't just rely on bidding low and hoping he joins us due to the current situation at united, we have to flex our muscle to beat people like Chelsea or Liverpool.

It'll probably be something like £90 + add on rising to 120m, but I really don't expect it to be less.

Convincing the player would be hard but we did manage to convince Pogba to come when we were in a similar position. If we have a better manager and have already secured a couple of good signings there could be a chance that the wages we are able to offer and a new feel good factor coming from the new recruits could make him overlook our recent troubles. But then I am also of the opinion that a player shouldn't need too much convincing, if you are having to offer ridiculous terms just to secure a transfer then you should walk away because that could turn out to make things difficult in the dressing room with the player feeling bigger than the team/manager.

Dortmund sold Dembele to Barcelona for €100m after a 10-goal, 21-assist season with them. Sancho is already on 15 goals and 17 assists for the season. Combined with the fact that it's United, you're not gonna pay less than €100m imo.

Would be an awesome signing but somehow I don't see it happening. Don't feel we can attract top players or talents in our current state.

It would put him 5th behind Neymar, Mbappé, Coutinho and Dembele.

And he’s the best teenager in the world who has been doing it for a few years now. He’s worth a massive outlay.

Exactly. People are being a bit naive if they think arguably a top 3 attacking talent in the world is going for less.

Barca pissed Dortmund off hence the price being higher than it should've.

Yeah, Sancho will be worth the fee to going by how good he is and his age.

One factor that can be good advantage for buying club is, he has contract till 2022(as per transfermarkt), that's just 2 years on the contract in the summer.

What incentive does Dortmund have to sell him for less than €100m? Barcelona and Real paid €120m and €100m last summer for 28-year old players who were arguably in the same category as Sancho, almost a decade younger, already is now.

True, which is why I think they'll definitely sell this year. 2 years is a healthy barrier but if they leave it 1 more year it could be halved. I hope we've been saving up!

My response to you was regards the Dembele move to Dortmund and why it cost Barca as much as it did.

€166m.

Most reports have placed the perspective Sancho asking fee at £120m (€143m).

Seems about right given the going rate for players of his talent and age. We paid £80m for a CB nowhere near as talented as Sancho is (even if they are different positions).

He won't be coming to us anyway.

Much depends on what Sancho wants. If he's open to going to multiple clubs, then Dortmund can start a bidding war and drive up the price. On the other hand, if he's set on going to a specific club, Dortmund can only hold out for so much. Next summer they'll have even less leverage, and if sancho is upset at not getting sold, he could poison the locker room.
