Jadon Sancho| Staying at Dortmund for now

Fletcher was considered an absolute certainty to start the 2009 CL final against Barcelona and his red card at the Emirates was a terrible blow. Can you honestly see James ever becoming that important to the team?
You guys are pretending like he was not on the field when we pretty ran over ManCity at Etihad. Like he was not on the field expertly crossing for Rashford against Liverpool &/or Spurs for goals

Interestingly, they also say that the outlay on Dembele won’t be too different to Sancho, which makes the Dembele transfer difficult also.

fred or Herrera are the closest we’ve had in recent years

Herrera definitely closer in my book (not a knock on Fred, he's got the guts and hard work - just don't think his footballing IQ is extraordinarily high), but neither close to the holistic game that Park provided. Good shout though. Not all too many players like that in today's game.

This will be a long season even if we get Sancho.. this is like Mourinho's 3rd season..
I do not think we will get top 4...

We all know Dortmund have a habit of back tracking on what they say.

But if they sold him now, after what Zorc has just said, it'd be utterly ridiculous. He would look a shimmering clown of Woodward 2013 magnitude.

And we have a habit of messing up transfer windows and leaving our managers short. Handing out crazy contracts only to give the player away on a free etc. I know which side im believing. I wish it wasn’t the case but here we are.

Dembele is nothing more than a 60 million footballer not on the basis of talent but his contribution in career thus far. He's lost value joining Barcelona and they already got robbed by Dortmund for the fee.

I'd side the with the management on this one, Loan with obligation to buy (with clauses) for no more than 60 million.

I have some great muppetry going round my football teams WhatsApp. Sending some dodgy voice note, claiming it's John marquis. Says Sanchos having his medical at Saint George's park, will play his last game for Dortmund and complete move. Silly season is truly here - but hey, any if you want to cling to anything, there you go!
That’s the kind of whatsapp groups I live for. Inject me!

If there’s indeed a second bid of this kind, Sancho needs to furiously throw some toys now if he is really committed to leaving BVB as reported

I don’t think they’ll take that deal.

Based on the noises out of Germany, I'd guess they'll laugh at us. If Ed offered 120M spread over 5 years, they may accept that as it's all guaranteed. Even the most achievable add-ons are not strictly speaking "guaranteed," which is where this latest alleged bid falls short.

80 million is flecking ridiculous. I mean you have a player who has been injured over half the time he has been with you and has done nothing special in time he was on pitch and you still want 80 mil. He is not worth a penny more than 60. United or for that matter anyone will not take a punt at him at this price tag

Why would we not just agree to the option to buy and then not exercise that option at the end of the season.

Not long before this is put to bed. Regardless of the outcome, the relief that its over would be huge.

Thank you my friend. We’ve done our utmost best. Our work here is nearly done. Once Sancho is lifting the shirt on Monday we will be moving over to the Haaland thread in preparation for next Summer. It’s sooo on, I can’t wait! :D

If we are indeed offering to pay over 5 years, I dont see Dortmund selling for under 120m..
Make it a 100m over 5 years and 20m in achievable add ons and it might work.

Donwe know why we blew 200m cash in one year? Paying back debt or interest?
Almost 0 has been spent in servicing the principal debt in the past two years. At the end of June 2019 we had ~300m in cash and we used ~174m to pay off trade agreements we have made over the past couple years.

We are currently in a position where we have ~70m in cash and and over 200m in bills to pay in the next 12 months.
I repeat again - Sancho was never - ever going to be done because Dortmund want cash (we all do because of COVID) and United want a smaller total bill and instalments. In addition Ed was planning on a lot more sales than he ended up with.

Sales was a priority because as you can see from our books - we’re in a cash crunch.

I know fans hate reading financial Info about United. Unfortunately it matters because they are a public company and only accountable to their shareholders at the end of the day.

Are you trying to argue that Dan James can hit the importance level Fletcher reached for us?

I'd probably take that as a lost battle to be honest pal.

I said this a while ago; the strategy, in part for fans, has been to sell tv for 50p to get cash in

19 million a year is ridiculous if true. That's oceans away from Dortmunds supposedly demand/valuation of €120m up front.

This is over and has been a utter waste of time if thats the bid we come up with a few days before the window shuts.

What if we want to buy him and we have to pay the full amount with no room for negotiating a lower fee? United have the advantage in this deal. Barca need to sell to buy. The manager seemingly does not want Dembele and wants Memphis. Can't blame us for offering a low fee or loan. I think we'll be stuck in the same predicament next season trying to sign class players on the cheap. Rona ain't going away and all clubs are going to be financially strapped this time next year. The best United are able to do for Ole at this time is to stop wasting time and get him a half decent winger on the cheap and stop trying to get clubs to lower their valuation for good players to such a low amount.

People point out that he's not kicked up a fuss, but @Jim Beam made the excellent point that Sancho has a whole lot to be grateful to Dortmund for. They gave him the platform via playing time to be this hot talent who is second only to Mbappe as most coveted in that age range. He likes playing for the club and has a great time out there in an attacking team with team mates he clearly has a rapport with. Sancho, by not featuring "ill" has done about as much as would be deemed fair in terms of come and get me pleas - for all he knows, we aren't even going to make good on that and have left him in the lurch.

I mean the kid agreed terms with us until 2025 I think. 5 years of his career going in the club who is fallen off a cliff a bit and doesn't guarantee you top titles like before. Now, am sure he was supposed to be handsomely paid for it, but, by all accounts, he shouldn't be short of offers the way his career is going. Still he bought into our project and club's direction as his next step to develop. A pretty big step as those years are pretty much "make or break" for every young player.

Then (by all reports and rumours) he expressed his desire to Dortmund about joining us getting "ill" in the process and "not being happy" about the situation. The next step is only going on a strike and I fully understand him not willing to do go that far.

In any case, not sure how anyone can put any blame on him and he fully kept his end of the bargain imo.

As for the club, the whole thing looks like a mess atm. The less I say, the better. I even understand not paying such amount in one go, it is a huge amount of money after all and there is not a single club who got close to paying it this summer. But then you move on and not dick around for the whole damn summer ffs. As you might end up with only dick in your hand.

Anyway, 3 more days to go, let's see what happens... We are still making noise if nothing else.

19m per year

Hey, if we pay 91 million over the duration of 500 years then we would only need to pay 190,000 per year! Sweet!
Why is it so funny? Arent all transfers paid out over the duration of a contract?
Thats what I dont understand about this. It seems like its what it should be anyway?

Are you trying to argue that Dan James can hit the importance level Fletcher reached for us?

I'd probably take that as a lost battle to be honest pal.
You are missing the point, unless you have a crystal ball that can predict the future of a 22-year old football player.
I saw Fletcher's entire career. He showed great promise earlier on but like many but ended up a serviceable player. Just like JSP was a serviceable player that understand our movements.

It is worth remembering that money has a time value. Money today is more valuable than money tomorrow. If I get 20m euros today, I can save/invest that money and get say a 10% return in 1 year. So by the end of year 1, I now have 22m euros. Or in a footballing context, I could invest that money in players/wages that could bring me success on the pitch, which brings in downstream revenue. So in this instance to make a fair offer, the question is ”Do you want 20m euros now or 22m next year?“. And that’s not even accounting for things like inflation, cash flow being king in today’s environment and changes in the transfer market in 3/4/5 years time (like PSG deciding to pay £200m for someone or Woodward throwing money at a decent defender to make him the world’s most expensive one thereby changing market dynamics). A guaranteed payment of £20m could be peanuts in the context of a football club in the future. There is too much uncertainty.

So if anything, if Dortmund values Sancho at 120m euros, they are well within their rights to ask for even more if we are structuring payments as far out as 5 years but this is a moot point because I don’t think they would ever accept that in the first place.

I remember at some point in this saga, reading Dortmund didn’t care how the 120M was paid as long as they were guaranteed 120M.

If we agree to 20M a year for 6 years, Dortmund will take it.

What's this "serviceable" business you keep on about?
Park had a lot of class too. He wasn't just a runner.

James will be shipped out in the summer I'd say. A shame as he seems a lovely lad, but after a decent couple of months he just stagnated unfortunately.
He needs to play for a team of underdogs who play totally on the break.
