Jadon Sancho| Staying at Dortmund for now

It is symptomatic of modern football fans wanting to have unrelenting access to a football club via social media and thinking 18 seconds without information or update that our club is a complete shambles. Unbeknownst to most, their fervent and feverish whining drives bad actors to chime in with random, unsubstantiated claims on twitter, like that we actually forgot to charge our single company blackberry and cannot confirm the transfer until we find a plug socket, this drives clicks and "engagement" whirlpools of sh!te we all get washed away with.
Have you seen The Social Dilemma on Netflix?

some of these tik tok kids don’t even know there is an alternative existence and that they are totally dependent on the matrix.

So, in this game of brinksmanship we would like to believe is happening, who's your money for the fold?

Us (paying what Dortmund want), or them (accepting an offer less than the stated £108m)?

Who's got the bigger stones?

Their message seems to flit between “no way he’s for sale at any price now” and “the price has not changed”.

He’s available, all the talk is just bluster and posturing. If Dortmund would accept €120m then they wouldn’t say no to an offer of €119m either, nor €118m.... of course at some point they would say no and its up to us to find that snapping point.

BVB are all over the shop. Can’t even state a coherent defence of their position.

also this is exactly the same rubbish Spurs and Leicester came out with before we bought Berbatov and Maguire. Heck it’s the same rubbish BVB have come out with before they sold their key players before.

There are 4 possibilities now :

- Utd buy Sancho for less than 120M : This is good. Woody and co, should be congratulated for bringing the price down, even if it took some time.

- Utd buy Sancho for 120M or above : Absolutely stupid. Why waste the whole summer when you could have bought him a long time ago, and let him integrate with the squad? The 3 points lost on the first game of the season could make or break the season at the end.

- United dont buy Sancho, but buy an alternative : Not good. You chase a player the whole summer, not get him, and then go for a plan B probably as a panic buy. Its not ideal, but not the end of the world. Sancho probably goes to Liverpool or another top club next summer and United continue their steady decline.

- Utd dont buy anyone : This would be tragic. Woody should be sacked if this happens.

Not having a go, but its amazing how other than getting him for less that 120m we’ve screwed the pooch? I mean there always two parties at a negotiation table. Could it be possible that Dortmund themselves have muddied the water for Utd? By not dealing directly with us and rather through these intermediaries.

Its this “get him at any cost” mentality our fan base display that Dortmund can use to pressure Utd.

I‘m frustrated by our transfer strategy as much as the next fan, but its also extremely disingenuous to place such strict reactions to certain outcomes. If we get him, great. If we don’t and find a reasonable alternative, thats also good. Of course, if we don’t do any business whatsoever, with the way the mood around our fan base is, we are already starting this season on the backfoot. All the positivity that was built after the lockdown will be eroded away, and we fans are to blame for that just as much as Woodward and Co.

Dortmund would make a big saving by not having to pay his loyalty fee if Sancho handed in a transfer request wouldn't they? Maybe Dortmund's game is to force Sancho into this, also makes him look like the bad guy too.
No. And it's not even true in england either. Transfer requests are usually done for the benefit of the selling club. No agent worth his salt would let his client agree to that

I haven't but I recently read two Jarod Lanier books (10 arguments to delete your social media & you are not a gadget) and Shoshana Zuboff's The Age of Surveillance Capitalism. Both fantastic on this subject, hence I have deleted my twitter and instagram.

There was a tweet earlier saying we’re willing to go to £100m max which equates to €110m. I think if we offer that as well as Sancho kicking up a fuss it may be enough to see this over the line.
The thing is. If we’re willing to go to £100m why not the extra £8m?

I know it’s a huge sum of money but surely if you’re even entertaining £100m you have to be sure that your finances are in good enough order that you don’t have only £8m leeway?

I wonder if we will get a flurry of briefs in the evening again, once details of another day of talks release.

Although I have a feeling we wont make a second bid before tomorrow for some reason.

The only flurry of briefs will be of those belonging to muppets, freshly laundered and hanging on the washing line, to be ready to do it all again tomorrow.

How credible is the Norweigan journo?

Quite. He elaborated on his sources in a Norwegian podcast a few days ago. He was clear that he has a few sources directly involved with Manchester United, but that Ole is not one of them. He also made it clear that he has no connections in Germany, so any news on his part are from us (or completely made up, I guess, but never from Dortmund).

I like Dortmund's stance here it makes sense. They're happy to keep him for another year and know they'll get a good price next year anyway - with still two years left on his deal. But also they know Jadon wants the move so they've set a price and they're sticking to it - it's a very fair approach.

The only variable that could throw a spanner in the works for them is if Sancho agitates for a move.

Even Villa are trolling us!

It's a pretty commonly used expression to be fair

Dortmund were definitely taking the piss out of us but it's been quite normal for other club accounts using it before and after this saga

Interesting..

The only reason I can think of is to spare some cash for another signing, Alex Telles by the looks of it. Supposedly we’ve offered Porto £10m and are reluctant to go any higher, that’s where that extra £8m is going imo.

Could be remembering this wrong, but didn’t one of the German posters in here say that loyalty bonuses aren’t a thing over there like they are here in the prem?

He said they don't have transfer requests. Which I guess mean an actual system of a document you can turn in to help force a transfer. Pretty sure you can still "hand in a transfer request" by saying you would want to go, and possibly at the same time say you are willing to forfeit certain things owed from your contract to make it happen.

As for loyalty bonus, pretty sure he recently got a bonus for staying for 12 months from his last contract was signed plus 10 England caps.
