Maguire signed 3 days before the deadline. Bale was signed by Real on deadline day. We signed Falcao on deadline day. Rooney, if I remember correctly was signed towards the end as well. Arsenal signed Ozil (their record signing at the time) on deadline day. There's plenty of examples of major transfers being conducted in the final week of the window.
