Jadon Sancho (Out)

They are paying 30% of his wages plus a ridiculously low loan fee, every time laughs at us !

I'm not sure how anyone thinks we could possibly get a much better deal than this to be honest.

This is a player who we are literally paying not to play. We're in a terrible negotiating position here. The other club knows that our alternative is to just pay him his massive wages to basically do nothing. Why would they not play hardball with us?

I think he's been hard done by to be honest. He's not set the world alight but he's got a higher ceiling and his performance levels have been par/ better than anyone other than streaky Rashford and Bruno when he's on it.

His first season was very poor - I always think seasons are going to start poorly for new players when managers just keep them benched at the start and start talking about adapting...just throw the lad in.

His second season, he averaged a goal contribution every 2 games in the prem...which is far above the levels of Antony or Martial (and Bruno this season), who seem to be getting pass after pass tobe consistently poor and play.

This season, he looked good in the False 9 in pre-season and then got 70 odd minutes of football across 3 games...barely any time to do anything before getting outed by Erik after forcing us to watch Rashford and Martial lazily jog about in the opening games.
Look at Maguire and McTominay, EtH does not permanently oust players. He's accommodated Sancho before, Sancho is the main problem here.

Antony no? Sancho at least has more goals

They were roughly around the same fee but at least Antony tries and puts in a shift even if he’s nowhere near the level he should be for that fee, Sancho is paid £350K a week and had 3 months off fully paid after not bothering and bothered less once he returned so Sancho is worse than Antony.

Falcao and Sanchez are in with a good shout as well. Can't remember Falcao doing anything of note in the time he was here.

Sanchez cost a lot in wages but was effectively a free transfer and Falcao was a year loan, neither worked out and were mistakes but not on the level of a £75 million transfer fee and £350K a week wages to not bother and massively shirk any responsibility in training or on the pitch or in regard to club hierarchy.

If a 23 year old is ready to sit on his contract for 3 years and miss out on developing his career, then so be it.

You could get away with this years ago. Players are too valuable now. If we assume a reduced value of say £30 mill. What company wants an asset of that value depreciating?

Puts him in the shop window for 6 months, hopefully he does well, and we can get try and recoup some of the massive outlay we had on him. Probably best scenario we have right now, as ETH isn't going to play him. It just shows how bad this situation is, our wingers this season have been poor, and here we have a 70 million winger we are having to subsidize his wages for 6 months to help get him out the door. Terrible buy, like many of our big deals in recent seasons.

It will be interesting to see if he suddenly finds the aggression and determination that's been so badly missing from his game.

That 30m is nothing compared to the message that we'd be sending out of we make things easy for him. Get a big contract, half arse it on the pitch, party off it, disrespect the manager and United will let you off easily. Do you think he will really want to sit it out for three years?

It's not like we haven't lost 30 million in other transfers. With Greenwood, a 50 million worth asset (at the minimum) lost almost all his value. With Antony, we'll be losing more than 30 million for sure. But the aim is to set standards for the culture we want at the club. When we inevitably would want to get rid of Antony, who would want to pay a transfer fee for him? Wouldn't every club prefer a loan deal when they're paying half the wages? If it works out for them, they'll then initiate a permanent transfer otherwise the player gets stuck with us again. We have to act in the present and take some hits before the message is set out to both the players and the buying clubs. Not that I'm hopeful that the club has the balls to take such a stand.

He can, but he shouldn't complain if he has to train with the reserves, eat with the academy players and letting his career stall.

He didn't complain but he could. You're contractually obliged to provide him with professional training opportunity. Make of it what you want, but legally he has a stronger case than you.

Flushing €60m down the toilet to prove a point?

The reserves are absolutely training on a professional level, so as long as he trains with them he hasn't got a legal case against that.

Forcing him to train alone would be a different issue however.

He had done several months already and not kicked up a fuss. Honestly don't think he would be arsed.

We've wasted hundreds of millions on terrible transfers over the years. What's another £30m?

Even if he goes and does well in Dortmund it doesn't prove a huge amount. He is still a bad player, with a bad attitude who can play decently in a farmers league.

But at least he goes out his way to talk to the staff, apparently.

I'm not so sure about that. You can argue that reserves and youth don't possess the quality to challenge a professional footballer as much as is required to stay sharp. And I don't think any court would agree that Sancho making use of his freedom of speech in no insulting fashion would justify depriving him of a professional training environment.

Somebody's already getting nervous ;)

If Dortmund can buy him next summer.

A solution and idea is :

Sancho + money = Florian Wirtz. Not sure Alonso will accept that offer. I would try

Leverkusen would still be a top team in Germany and in champion league next season.

It’s not a solution. It’s a pipe dream.

I think if Sancho performs well in Dortmund, we'd consider that offer. But it seems unlikely Wirtz moves clubs in 2024 and if he does, he'll surely stay away from United as he's planning his career very wisely so far.

Looking at the Dortmund subreddit the vast majority of fans don't want him back even on a cut price deal

People have been decrying United's ability to attract the most in-demand players since Fergie left. Last summer we signed Casemiro, Mount (who Chelsea, Arsenal, and Liverpool wanted), and Martinez (who Arsenal wanted). The year before Ronaldo, Varane and Sancho. I'm sure we'll be fine.

Ok. But honestly, I wouldn’t be sure at all.

Should be looked at as a plus if we can get any club to cover any of his wages at the moment. Rotten character who isn't worth any of the hassle as a player either. The club and manager bent over backwards for him last year and he has shown nothing for it, the sooner he is out of the way the better.

Yeah, we usually do it by paying them a shitton of money over the competion.

Winston Bogarde was training and playing with Reserve for years.

I don't think there are many we couldn't attract still, mostly now because the European leagues are so weak that there's still not that many clubs above us. Players also must make so much from social media when they join the club, it's a bit of a longer term investment as well (this, in part, is probably a big issue with the players we attract - who want the payday before they want to win things).

Woke up this morning in absolute shock at the state of this whole situation.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't he signed on a 5 year contract, amortised over the length of it? Meaning we still owe them over 28 million for him? On top of paying 70% of his wages??

Dortmund and the rest of the football world are absolutely pissing themselves laughing...if the shoe was on the other foot, I would be. We are a parody of ourselves and I can't remember the last time I felt proud supporting this club.

We're an actual case study on how not to run a football club.

I don't know why this boils my piss more than bad performances on the pitch. The losses and wins, I'm indifferent to these days, I just roll with it because I've better things to be worrying about, but the suits that constantly undermine everything that is done on the pitch without so much of a semblance of a clue about football are the scourge of society and everything and everyone would be better off without them, and I'm talking about outside the microcosm that is football too. Yeah, that's why it boils my piss more...

You should stay away from the most in-demand players in your very own interest for the time being. Why would a top talent join you? Your examples are actually deterrants for high profile players. The only reason they'd pick you is the unreal amount of money you can throw at them. Sure, that'll always be enough to convince some but then you shouldn't be surprised when your squad consists of mercenaries who don't care about the club.

Get your act together, focus on players who see it as a big career opportunity to play for you (even if they are smaller in name) and save the high profile transfers for when you've sorted yourself out.
