Jadon Sancho - Chelsea (loan) watch | £5M opt-out fee

The athletic are saying the penalty fee is 5m. Chelsea will definitely pay that. Was hoping it was 12.5m.to 15m. He's coming home.

That's not nearly significant enough to stop Chelsea sending him back. I was hoping it'd be at least £10 million.

£5m is very disappointing.

He’s back this summer so and we’ve to suffer through another circus before we’re finally rid of him.

If £5m is true, then the club deserves the cnut back. What an awful deal. Why set such a low fee for any obligation given any player could fail.
Would be a disasterclass from INEOS if we are stuck with him for a season to run his contract down.

5m.

Let's hope Amorim can do a miracle and somehow turn him into one of the 10s. Not holding my breath but at that fee he'll be back here.

Was always too good to be true. He just doesn’t wasn’t to put the effort in

He is coming back. Ornstein is reporting it because he has been given the indication that this is what Chelsea intend to do

I can't see that he'll stay at the club in any capacity regardless. We'll probably just have to hold the sunken cost on this one and ship him out for whatever we can.

So, Chelsea's "significant penalty" for not signing Sancho this summer is seemingly £5m....

Unbelievable if true. This is less than what United saved on Sancho's wages due to the loan.

It would be healthy to know who from the football structure INEOS brought perpetrated this contract.

This is funny for a number of reasons, but now what I think of is the prospect of Sancho actually outstaying Ten Hag... due to nobody wanting him.

PS: Freedon't.

What the feck? How was that allowed to be inserted into the deal? Completely undermines the obligation to buy. Essentially makes the deal a bargain for Chelsea if Sancho was decent and a get out of jail fee when he inevitably wasn't.

Wish we could pay 5m to feck off the prick.

Only we could negotiate an obligation to buy clause in which there is no obligation to buy

He’ll get the Rashford treatment but worse.

I don't know if my numbers are correct, but at that point United could terminate Sancho's contract by paying his yearly wage (about 13M), minus the 5M from Chelsea it would be about 8M total.

Or, you know, play him and hope for the best while knowing he will A) run his contract down and B) act in bad faith and/or for selfish reasons.

I thought people on here talking about north of £10m (some posters were talking close to £20m) for the penalty fee were being very optimistic but it's disappointing it's as low as £5m. Chelsea will surely pay the penalty rather than buy him for nearly 5 times as much, it might be the case that we have to negotiate that buy option down to encourage them to not send him back.

Seriously, Lennon had more talent and a better career at Tottenham than what Sancho is now carving out for himself. He will not be remembered by most 20 years from now. He may have, but ultimately he looks to be on the path of ruining his career - obviously he made it in terms of playing at top football and making too much money; however, he could have been more, and that is down to mindset and work ethic.

That’s not a bad shout. There is £14m left on his book value this summer.

Tell Chelsea to clear that and they can have him. Cut our losses and run.

Why would they want him for £14m (plus contract) when they can return him for £5m?
