Honestly I'm not sure Sancho ever wanted to be here. He didn't try to force the move when we first went in for him (the year those greedy yellow bastards wanted 120m). Then when he was here I think there was a serious lack of application on top of his other limitations. Not sure he managed more than a handful of half decent performances in the 3 years he was here.
Then he goes back to Dortmund, kisses the badge and says how happy he is to be back. I think it says it all.

Can't stand the guy or Dortmund. Because I'm petty I'd sell him to Dortmund for the 70m they ripped us off for, or another club for 40m.

He was brilliant tonight but I don't know what game you were watching. He was given loads of time and space to face up to his man and have him backtracking. It was literally Sanchos perfect game. Playing for United he would have defenders up his bum as soon as he got the ball. He wasn't receiving it facing up one on one to a defender with space in behind to ghost into like tonight.

Hes a brilliant player in the right circumstances but there is a reason he didn't look half the player at United and its not just because we are a mess.

Rashford gets that every game

Jadon Sancho for Dortmund across all competitions, 17 appearance, 3 goals, 2 assists. Let's not fecking pretend after one good performance he's been tearing it up. He played well yesterday and all credit to him but after 3 seasons at United and this season at Dortmund, aside from a few glimpses, he has failed to live up to expectations. I still hoped he would sort out his issues with ETH and come good but it's clear unless he apologises, he should be moved on in the summer.

Dortmund have also dropped out of the UCL places in the league and are lucky they get the extra spot this season.
Don't think they were lucky, their win yesterday secure the extra spot for German clubs aka for themselves. We did no good for the English by pathetically finishing last in the group stage, and by we I mean Onana.

Of course they were lucky to get an extra UCL spot (unless of course they win it), because they would not have got in through their league positions.

I don't think one should use the point about "didn't try to force the move" against him. I actually think that's a good trait of him, that he isn't a cnut like Dembele for example when he forced his way to Barcelona.

Nonetheless I think your question is absolutely valid. Personally I tend to believe that he expected it would be a lot different than it turned out to be in Manchester. No idea if that's just him being naive or the club really being shit compared to Dortmund or whatever, but I agree that it's telling that he immediately looked a lot happier once he left United and returned to Dortmund.

Which I personally will never get, because that means he has to Dortmund again, but whatever

He looked very good last night. Maybe Ten Hag is the problem? Anyone consider that?

Can‘t we just merge the two Sancho threads?

The point is they actually put in a shift to secure that extra spot for the league. So in that sense it's well deserved that they are the team who profits from that rule and not someone else. Would Frankfurt be 5th it would be lucky and undeserved after their embarassing ECL campaign.

Ye it would make it better and more entertaining but PSG still have a lot more spending power than the rest of the league which makes it unfair. Should put a spending cap on teams where it’s usually 1 team that dominates.
A Salary Cap on all the top leagues in Europe would be a great leveller but would never happen.
If it did we would see who the great coaches are....that is for sure.

Looked like a good performance but people are going overboard. He created one very good chance, the rest is progressing the play rather than anything special.

Hope he performs well so we can ship him off for as much money as possible. Dortmund, give us 100 mil and we'll add Rashford too. In fact ship half our squad to them for all I care
Yep and then we can go and buy a bunch of cloggers, or unproven potential maybe? Who knows? It doesn't matter!

Principles over success amirite?

Btw stats, Sancho had 13 dribbles in that match. 13.

Antony averages 5 per 90 mins, Amad hasnt played much but averages 4.8 and then Garnacho with 4.5 are the most our wingers are producing. And when it comes to successful outcomes of dribbling Amad has the most with 2.4 then Antony with 1.9

I believe thats 13 successful dribbles from Sancho

My point is they are only getting the spot due to their UCL run and all credit to them for that which they only got due to UEFA increasing the spots this season hence their luck. Their league form has been woeful.

Yes, 18 attempts, 13 successful. Most successful dribbles in a CL SF since Messi 2008. That's special

Yes, they are generally in a bad shape this season and their CL run is the only (but still very impressive) thing that salvages their mediocre season. They couldn't compete again for the title and even worse, Stuttgart and Leverkusen exposed their decade-long excuses for failing to win the league as just that: worthless excuses, not facts.

Rashford and Sancho aren't currently bringing much success for us, though? And they are both on some of the highest paid wages in football. At some point something has got to give. There's also the issue that neither seem particularly happy to be here. Sancho especially but Rashford also plays like he isn't enjoying himself at all.

Am I right in saying he played on the right?

If we get a new manager I do wonder if he comes back into that role for us. Obviously he’s been hugely disappointing for us, but stranger things have happened.

And you guys suggestions to fix this are to sell our best players for peanuts without a view to who you're replacing them with and what you want from them...... Amazing stuff, clearly thought out and all that....

Great to see him in a happy mood and enjoying his football again.
He is obviously worth more to Dortmund then he is to us and I hope that is reflected in their bid to buy him once his loan comes to an end.

I keep saying this, but these players aren't enjoying football at United. None of them, for years now. You won't get the best out of anyone unless you create the right environment. The only time we've had it was a brief 5 or 6 game bounce when Ole came in and the mood around the place changed. Other than that it's a soul destroying place for players.

And obviously it doesn't come as a surprise that he's put in a performance like this on the big stage, given his clear talent, he's done it before. Usually at Dortmund, even against better teams than PSG.

But but but he can't play on the right, it's clear why he failed here when he's a left winger and that idiot Ole played him on the right.

Or something.

He had their fullback on toast, similar to how he gave Alphonso Davies the run around against Bayern a few weeks ago. I'd love to see any of our other wingers do that in a big game.

Sometimes it's the obvious answer.....

A lot of people are too stubborn though. Like the manager...

Yes, that was my point but he did not understand. When they earn 5th place for Germany with that win, can't call that being lucky but fully well-deserved.

Played well, but the hype from the commentators was WAY over the top.

I don't know if that performance is much different to what he did on his good days at United if I'm honest. The difference being there are teammates closer to him in Dortmund, he's not expected to skin the full back and run the length of the touch line. He basically beat the defender and created just enough space to always lay it to someone. He also has a bit of a free role where he drifted in field quite a bit.

I don’t think people are going overboard at all. This was a Champions League semi-final with some incredible players on the pitch and he looked like the best player out there.
He also created two very good chances, not one.

If anything I think it highlights the massive difference of the pressure cooker playing for Manchester United in the Premier League. Especially joining during a period when we’re not very successful, and everyone expects our big signings to be supermen who can rise above the rest of the team & elevate them. Mata, Pogba, Bruno, Sancho, Antony have all fallen foul of this and every single one of them would have had a much easier time during a successful period with a well functioning team.

Sancho is clearly a very very good footballer, but being successful for Manchester United requires so much more than that. It’s the same story at Madrid in fairness & it’s also the reason so many players fail here.

The performance last night was great for United though because I think it’s going to be very difficult for Dortmund not to want to do a big deal to bring him back permanently and they are going to push it as far as possible which is only good news for us.

Nice. Yeah even when playing not very well for us he would run with the ball well. He just didnt do it enough or with end product. Thats still needing improvement but just in terms of running at players hes still one of the best.

He was about half as good as Rio and Hargreaves were making him out to be. If you just heard Hargreaves comment straight after the game you would have thought he had just turned into Prime Messi for 90 minutes, when in reality he did some successful dribbles and slipped over when he got his best opportunity.

Totally. Football is a team sport and one would imagine if Foden or KDB play for Ten Hag they would look nowhere near as good. Probably would run up and down the pitch way too much and become ineffective.

Agreed - it was a good game but the hype is next level.
Not sure what counts as dribbles for stats either as the 13 dribbles stat doesn't translate to what I watched

The first and most obvious difference... He's on the right. Where he also was before we bought him

Our manager insists on inverted wingers coming inside onto their stronger foot and he was ineffective for us doing this from the left. This season he's resorted to playing Garnacho on the right and Garnacho has done well. Maybe now he would play him on the right but with their falling out we didnt find out.

Dortmund just want him to be dangerous and put him against the 21 year old leftback who is a lot better going forward than defending. I think I can see why Sancho looked confident from the start

Ole has said that while Sancho was bought for the right flank, he preferred the left, so there's that

Absolutely certain he was bought to play on the right and posters excused his poor performances for ages because "he's a left winger" ?

A lot of the dribbles were back to his own goal though or across the field where another player would have just passed for what it's worth, he played well but that stats misleading.

But he had some good dribbles?
Yes. Honestly everyone expecting great stats from him after not playing with a team for months and joining a totally dysfunctional Dortmund team was always expecting too much. Him getting back into form and becoming integral to their setup already is a great improvement, even if it's still far away from what we have seen from him before.
