Think we all need to remember how off it Greenwood looked for a large chunk at the start/middle of last season. Wasn’t scoring, wasn’t really creating, defenders looked like they’d sussed him and he largely looked lost in many games. It took him a fair chunk of the season to start looking like a goal threat again and look at him now.
Sancho is young, has just moved to a new league and is going to need time. The question is whether he can be played into form or whether it’s best just to take him out of the firing line and bed him in much more slowly. (Ole is going to get shit either way as he’s either not playing his £70m signing or he is and his £70m signing is not performing).
Comparisons and fears he may be our next Kagawa or Mkhitaryan are wide of the mark for me. Sancho has spent most of his life playing English football, has no ancillary issues such as adapting to the British culture or weather, and has a wide circle of friends in the local area and at the club itself. It’s purely the football side of things he has to acclimatise to.
Either way, I’m fairly confident by the end of the season we’ll have a quality, well integrated option for the right side. He has plenty of ability and he’s not just going to forget how to play football upon signing for United. It would have been great if he’d just hit the ground running, sadly that doesn’t look like it’s going to be the case. So a lot of people just need to chill, stop over-critically micro analysing his every touch and move and show some patience whilst he settles in.
