That Grealish thread has some of the worst takes I’ve seen on the cafe. We got one of the best young players in the world for £73 million yet people want to moan over a £100 million move for Grealish. Mind boggling.
I don't think they're moaning over Grealish so much as theyre moaning over how City was already much better than us and they still buy 100million players. I think they're upset the gap in player quality between the two teams isn't going to close as much as we'd hoped.

I'm very, very excited to see Sancho play.

City can spend £150m every summer despite what's said about FFP because nothing is ever actually done about it. Moreover, we've spent a few years signing medicore to decent players but few world class players. However, Liverpool have proven that the gap can be closed temporarily. City are not invincible.

I see all this talk about no space in pl but I remember Werner having all the space he needed last season. I definitely expect him to get above 25+ goal contributions next season injuries permitting.

He has not even kicked a ball in a competitive match, actually not even a friendly, for us and already got put down by some. Peak reactionary attitude.

Surely Werner won't be this bad, you'll expect him to be a little more settled and more composed this season.

As for Sancho, i'd rather have him than Grealish. Excellent on the right, left and the middle of the pitch. Very young and has played plenty of CL football with Dortmund. Used to playing in massive games, can score goals and create. He's got it all, excellent player.

It'll be interesting to see, now he's signed for Man Utd, if Southgate will start him for England.

Meh, City can still only field 11 players and they needed Kane more than Grealish

Same with Grealish when he joins City. Good for us (England), though. Rashford, Greenwood and Sancho competing here, Grealish, Sterling and Foden competing at City.

Been watching a lot of videos of him 20/21 season. He seems to be playing a lot from the left  . Very interesting were Ole plays him this year.

Reading that Grealish thread made me want him to fail miserably at Etihad..

It truly is awful. I can’t wait for this thread to blow up when Sancho puts in some remarkable performances.

We bought him for the right, and he will start on the right. Got it? - right.
We bought him because he’s one of the best wingers in world football. He can play either side, and he will play either side.

Sure but we also bought him because we need a right winger, so he will play mostly on the right.

Possibly. Owing to Rashford’s surgery, Sancho is very likely to start the season on the left, and with Shaw behind him, I think it’ll be an extremely dangerous combination that might end up sticking all season.

So who starts on the left while Rashford is out? Greenwood doesn't deserve to lose his place to Martial, James or Lingard.

Depends on whether Martial is in good nick, which he should be. If so, this front 4 makes the most sense to me.
Cavani/Greenwood
Martial Bruno Sancho

I also wouldn't mind this to be honest. With Leeds man marking style, Martial should have the freedom to attack his fullback, especially with Shawberto overlapping and combining. But same argument could be said for Greenwood, man marking could leave him that extra yard for shooting, which he is lethal at creating that yard for.

In all honesty we have an embarrassment of talent going forward, are we all sure Sancho will start the first game?

Greenwood is definitely not starting ahead of Martial upfront. He’s first choice RW (probably second when Rashford returns to LW + Sancho takes RW) and third choice striker (behind Cavani and Martial).

So question from my side...

Im an abroad United fan and have been for as long I can remember, my dad passed it on to me... However not being from England/Manchester or the region itself, I dont really feel or comprehend the local rivalries (other than obviously knowing they are there..). So to what extent is it a problem for United fans he is a youth product from City? Is it a big deal? Are there United fans who dont want him because of this? Is he now a persona-non-grata forever for Man City?

Haven't seen anybody think like that.

If anything he's a hero for telling Pep to stuff himself and move abroad for first team football.

He didn't even play competitively for City. Maybe city fans will hate him - but we certainly dont.

The short answer is no - its not a big deal. Namely because he was an academy player that didn't make an appearance for the first team. City fans would probably dislike him quite a bit. Tbh we don't really care about City all that much. Peter Schmiechel and Andy Cole played for City and that hasn't negated their status as legends for us, heck Dennis Law scored the winner against us for Man City that could have easily relegated us, but alas he's still universally loved.

Not sure you could say the same thing had it been Liverpool though.

Some Utd fans will see it as a good omen and make parallels with Giggs, who was at City as a schoolboy then poached by SAF for Utd.

Thanks, I already though this was the case given the absence of negative sentiment, but just was curious!

The ones throwing their toys out at Grealish potentially going to City were surely the only child growing up, always want what they don't have and don't want what they have. If we genuinely needed Grealish then I'd understand but we genuinely needed Sancho. His numbers speak for themselves and who knows where the ceiling is with him. Grealish is a wonderful player, looking at his numbers alone doesn't do him justice because he contributes in other ways but we have an idea where his ceiling is, given his age. It's a non-debate for me.

Is he really City academy product? They signed him from Watford when he was 15 and left them when he was 17. He spent just 2 years at City.

Trippier, now he is a proper City academy product.

Sancho also only spent 2 years at City, he spent most of his youth career at Watford.

Why isn't he with the squad yet?

Shaw and Maguire are there and they played significantly more in the Euros.

Grealish is only really rated highly by englishmen. He's a decent player. But injury prone, and thats not gonna get better with age.
Sancho gets the job done.

hehe imagine if he starts the season on the left and makes that position his own...and the problem right side will remain grrrr!

Nah, Giggs was in the City academy until 14, Solskjaer was a Liverpool fan growing up, Sir Matt played for both City and then Liverpool before becoming Man United manager... The only thing that matters is how they are when they are at the club, and if they leave to go to those clubs after, that they remain respectful.

My guess is we'll see him on both wings, sometimes with Martial left if Cavani is up top, sometimes with Greenwood right, sometimes with Pogba left probably too. When Rashford is back he'll probably just go on the right a lot more and then they'll switch in game occasionally.

Tbh the rivalry between Utd and City has generally tended to be a one-way situation. With them hating us, and us not generally being that arsed about them. Even now, I'd say it's the same. Right now, I'd put City in the same tier that Arsenal were under Wenger (when they were good). Strong (though not necessarily as fierce as even Arsenal were back then) sporting rivalry, but nothing deeper than that.

Put it this way, we wouldn't boo a random former Arsenal player like Iwobi if he came to OT with his present team. And we generally would do the same with a random former City player as well, by and large.

Liverpool, and maybe Leeds on the other hand, are a different matter.

Re Sancho, he spent 2 and a bit years at City, and by all accounts had strong (maybe even stronger) friendships with his age mates at Utd like Gomes and Rashford. I don't think there's an issue as far as we're concerned. City fans might hate him as a point of principle, but even that might be doubtful considering KDB and Salah haven't exactly set pulses racing at Stamford Bridge despite making them look like bigger fools than what Sancho has done thus far. Plus, it's not like they're missing him in any way.
