Stupid BDL with all their nonsense. Wrote so much bullshit last season, too. You would think that it would've shut them up that Dortmund eventually gave in and sold Sancho to United for far less than they demanded eventually. Imagine how United's season would've went without Sancho in their team. Such idiots, should really know better by now.
At least you're embracing the BDL nonsense.

The spin doctors of the BDL out in full force. I fully expect the gaslighting to begin when we settle on a price.

"You paid what Dortmund wanted all along"
Yep. Being told 120m was reasonable because there would be a line of clubs willing to pay for him this summer is a point quickly forgotten.

Dortmund has debts equaling around 27M €. United has around 675M €. They don't need to sell at all. If they were in need of cash, they could just raise a loan like it is common practice among practically all football clubs in the world.

The level of empathy in this thread is really astonishing. People pretend to be master negotiators yet don't even try to put themselves in the position of the other party.
You haven't got the first clue about finance. Debt would be a lot more expensive for Dortmund than it would be for Manchester United.

That was the main argument. “We need to pay what they want now as Liverpool will sign him next season”. It’s a transfer saga where goalposts are moved constantly and Dortmund are seen as some sort of moral high castle of the Bundesliga. I think Dortmund made a blunder last summer, and this summer they are in an even weaker position.

Caught me a marlin

this thread is nuts, people are genuinely suggesting we shouldn’t negotiate one of the biggest transfers in our history

Exactly. If Dortmund are in the red by ~€100m over the past two seasons because of covid and for two seasons they get no significant income from sales to cover that, then they’re not going to be happy lumbering they club with debt to cover that as Sancho’s “value” goes from €120m, down to €50-60m.

It’s all well and good saying “Dortmund will be happy because he earns them champions league football” but that’s completely besides the point. It’s in their own financials release that their business model is to make a sale each year while still remaining competitive and this is pre-covid when they already had a feck tonne of match day revenue.

When you consider their history with debt, there’s absolutely no way they will want to start saddling the club with debt once more when they have a player they can sell for €80m.

If you had the option of meeting in the middle and selling for €85m or lumbering the club with an €85m loan while that player’s value depreciated further and is no doubt disappointed after breaking a gentleman’s agreement, which would you choose?

Seriously, I appreciate Dortmund talk a good game but people need to stop believing every word they say and apply a bit of critical thinking to it. United hold a very strong hand this summer and while Dortmund have every right to play hardball, so do United and United will know that Dortmund don’t really want to have their bluff called

There doesn't seem to be a queue of clubs wishing to pay what Dortmund want.
If we are the only club willing to pay anywhere near what they want, why not use that to your advantage for a better price. Do you walk into a car showroom and immediately pay what they ask?
This is a multi million deal, of course you use all that's available to get the best deal.
People seem to hold Dortmund upl as some sort of perfect club. Do you think they just pay what they are asked for a player?

I saw a tweet the other day that said “Jude Bellingham will still be eligible to win ‘young player of the year awards’ in 2027”. Mind blowing really and made me feel very old as I will be nearly 41.

It's the same every summer on here. Buy high sell cheap is their motto.

almost reads like a BVB briefing to UK media, but i doubt it. Just seems odd for Stone to be talking about BVB as "they" in terms of a player. It's like he's suggesting a BVB source/report given to him. It actually reads like something ruhr nachrichten would tweet out if a player was leaving

So Sancho deal is basically done, don't really care about the fee and salary, it's gonna be huge anyway. Now what's next, if we are really trying to offload Martial is that enough for our attacking balance? Do we need more or can Amad rise that much and maybe Hannibal to shift in the middle? If Rashford is going to have surgery after the Euro's he might not be fight for the start of season.

Also the middle of the park ala the that DMC or whatever you call that position now, should really need to be filled also.

When they agreed with Sancho that a club has to pay €95m it would not be breaking that agreement if they refuse an offer for €85m. The player would of course have every right to be disappointed when the transfer should fail due to that, but he could not complain that an agreement was broken.

We definitely need to buy a DM next, and hopefully a CB too. Maybe we will need to sell a few to raise some funds too.
I also think we should loan Amad next season for his own good development, with Sancho and Greenwood he won't get much chances here. I hope we give more game time to Hannibal next season, he will be my future replacement for Pogba.

Welcome to muppet season . This deal is done for me , I cant see us negotiating for two summers only to walk away again . We need a DM and CB too . Also another RB but cant see us doing all 4 this summer

DM for sure has to be the priority after Sancho, I'm not sure it will be though. For the attack, if we sell Martial we have:

ST: Cavani, Greenwood
LW: Rashford, Dan James
RW: Sancho, Amad

That's fine IMO (ignoring we can use Pogba in attack too). Martial has his uses but he's no longer a starter and not even the 4th choice (Greenwood) anymore. So he'll want regular action. Plus, always a chance we push Dan James or Amad down a notch, swap Pogba with Ronaldo and use Ronaldo up front.... unlikely though. As you say, has to be the midfield. CB and RB competition also a need, but DM is a bigger need.

Great we've been fleeced again. "Ich habe dich kommen sehen" says the Dortmund overlord.

City would've paid £20 million and got him.
City have proven they could've got him for even less, he cost them £66k initially, why do they get such a good deal and we get made to pay out the ear?

I cant see Amad being loaned out next season. He's just spent only six months with us. Barely assimilated to the club.
Besides, I see Sancho as a more flexible/versatile player who isn't purely an RW. I can see him playing across the front 3 and Bruno's position as a 10/playmaker. There will be space for Amad if he bulks up.

We loaned Pellistri out about a week after he joined. Personally I'd like to see And get some time off the bench for us in the first half of the season, and maybe see him go out on loan for the latter half of the season if we can find him a good placement

He played for the U23s until January, then he was loaned out.

Amad is more comparable to Greenwood in terms of quality. We historically never loan out the best of the best youth talent.

I'd just sell James and to raise funds for elsewhere and give Amad his spot tbh. Also let Mata go so he can get game time elsewhere.

I think we need to be realistic,.Even without Sancho, Amad is not getting enough game time last season since he joined us. We can't really expect him getting more minutes with addition of Sancho here. We need to give him more game time elsewhere, he is not going to learn much playing for u-23 at this stage of his development.

Dortmund had a €93m net loss last year. United had £65m profit last quarter. Your debt comparison is just hand picking numbers to suit your narrative.

Dortmund want almost the exact amount for Sancho to offset their huge loss. I would say they have to sell, would be too risky to have another year of devastating losses, they just don’t generate the profit to service those debt levels.

Amad is not going out on loan. No chance.

Exactly. It’s up to United to call their bluff on this and make them sweat. We don’t have to meet their demands, they will negotiate if Sancho has his mind set on signing for us.

I definitely don't want Amad out on loan next season. We need him for our squad. He'll definitely get more game time for us next season especially if we do sell Martial. Signing Sancho won't mean no rotation. If anyone should be loaned it should be James (if not sold).
