Jadon Sancho | £72.9M fee agreed

So you're saying that the price hasn't dropped at all from last year?
Would seem ridiculous, he's not Mbappe, plus he's in the last year of his contract next summer, there's financial pressure from covid, the player wants the move and dortmund need to sell. We should not go past £80m in any circumstances.

If Sancho has an excellent Euro's then the price will suddenly go up.. If he doesn't then the price will stay the same as what Dortmund are currently asking.. which is less than last year.. The only thing in our favour at the moment is that a bidding war hasn't started which Dortmund thought would happen last year but are hoping happens this year.

The price isn’t going up no matter how well he does, but I enjoyed this negative fanfic all the same.

Of course it has. Last year it seemed to be 120M up front. Now it is 94M up front and around 20-25M in bonuses of varying probabilities. Assuming 5M are bound to ambitious conditions, you're 5-10M below. Add to that the inflation and interests and you probably get 10-15M € less.

Personally, I thought the transfer was likely yesterday but this news has actually made me reconsider. If it is true, you're most likely still far off. I guess one shouldn't give too much on media reports and stay a bit more relaxed.

I think that's absolute nonsense to be honest, but we'll agree to disagree

We made a bid! Two years in the making!
Is it finally happening?
Big day today.

This is not true though is it.

His price isnt going up, he has agreement with BVB that if a team puts x fee, they will sell.

Secondly, there was never going to be a bidding war because bidding wars don't actually exist, its just a myth.

I’d call Newcastle and Man Utd’s bids for Rooney in 2004 a bidding war

Why would Sancho want to get involved in a transfer when he can concentrate on the euros, have a holiday and then deal with it?

Moving your entire life from one country to another especially with shifting covid rules cant be easy and no doubtly stressful. Even if he does get everything done for him.

Why are you lot surprised? We lowball, every single time.
We will sign him.

For players involved with the Euro or a World Cup -
How likely is it to announce a transfer during the Euros?
In fact, how likely is it for big transfers even taking place during a big tournament like Euro or World Cup?
The main example I can remember for United is Pogba but that ended up happening in early August once the tournament was over.

The rumors were rampant during the tourney only for it to really pick up in the weeks after when all the NT players were on holiday

This is all very reminiscent of how this saga went last summer

United: Make a lowball offer right before the euroes to create some hype, then wait a month before making another one.

The price they demanded is "fair enough" last summer, but it'll surely be lower than 90m + 20m in add ons. Not a chance at that one IMO. Something like £80m total I'd expect to be the final sum. Maybe toss in 5-10 in unrealistic add ons.

Not really though, Dortmund were pretty firm about their demands last summer (120m by our deadline or he's not moving). You barely hear anything from them now. Suggests negotiations are close.

If the news of an official bid being made are true then we're already passed any stage we were at last summer when all the UK journo's were reporting that we never actually bid due to the asking price being too high.

Don't really hear news of official bids coming in unless we're in the end stages

Just pay the fecking money.

Or not. Inter are asking 80m for Hakimi but PSG and Chelsea are offering 60m, this is how it works. I believe we will get this done but it is not so urgent that we need to instantly capitulate to their demands, particularly as we have a few cards in our favor. They need to sell a player this summer, Sancho wants to go, they don't want to sell Haaland and we seemingly don't have any serious competition here. If we get to pre-season without agreement then we have an issue but otherwise just chill, we are 20 million apart and if we end up meeting in the middle we have effectively saved almost the entire projected fee for Trippier.

Man Utd bid for Sancho - Skysports (2020)

Skysports had news of a rejected bid last summer window

Only a matter of time for all the negative tweets to surface then we'll know we're really close.

Why put a bid in before agreeing a price?

It sounds like we’ve had discussions and got a ballpark figure. If we put in a bid at the price they are asking we would be idiots. We should be able to meet in the middle or walk away because Dortmund are being ridiculous in their valuations.

Complain about club finances.

Moan when club tries to negotiate more favourable price for player transfer.

No idea how it works but could they not just say would you take x? Then stick the official bid in

Total package including achievable add-ons should be no more than £85m. £65-70m up front and the rest in add-ons.
If Dortmund want £90m up front and another £15m adding on, I think we'll walk away again and I wouldn't be unhappy if we did at that price.

I think the bold part is true for most transfers and most clubs, but remember the BBC reported our £70m offer for Maguire in early July 2019 and the deal wasn't agreed until early August!

The developments today sound positive, but I think there is every chance this will drag on for a few weeks yet.
