Weren't many in here claiming that he must not fancy us because we haven't gotten this done in record time despite all evidence pointing to the contrary?

No, the problem last year was that Dortmund valued him at a level that United felt it wasn’t event worth entering negotiations for. €120m in the middle of a pandemic.Player demands weren't a problem this summer or last, were they?
Problem last year was United thinking that Dortmund were bluffing regarding the fee and the deadline for any deal - they weren't. United don't seem to be making the same mistake this summer.
I'm still somewhat suspicious that no other club in the last 2 years has made any move for Sancho.
Given Uniteds track record of buying players, i hope this doesn't end up another expensive bust.
The North remembers! Our social media team needs to remember this.

Buy Grealish just like that? Villa or the player don't get a say in the matter, I suppose?we should be signing Grealish along with the Sancho deal. we need to make a statement of intent this summer.

In that case, as we are deciding everything, are we setting the price as well? Or are we going to let Villa do so?
Some United supporters are so arrogant that they assume we can decide to buy a player and, bingo!, he's automatically ours.
I do.
take the comment in the context of who the feck does he think he is ................
He can wait a year.Well it’s more about club tradition. 7 used to be a meaningful number given to the best and most iconic player of the club. It’s not a must, but would be great to have finally “pass the torch” to a worthy successor. It’s more of a symbolic thing which is meaningful to the club’s tradition, the good old days, golden era from the club history, back from Busby era (Best) to Fergie’s era (Robson, Cantona, Beckham, Ronaldo)

Exactly. Saying we thought they were bluffing doesn't make sense if we never made an acceptable bid. It would only make sense if we bid what they wanted after the deadline. Other than that it really is we refused to pay 120mUnited didn’t think Dortmund were ‘bluffing’, just didn’t want to pay the fee they wanted, so the transfer went nowhere.
we all know the ‘deadline’ meant nothing.
A journo doing journo thing...I don't know!
He is talking sense though, right?
He could have stayed at City and got next to no game time OR move to a team that constantly plays in the CL, plays attractive football and is known for being a stepping stone club.
Sancho has played this right for his career.

Or could be another Bruno ? No one was seriously linked to him bar us and that worked out alright
No, it's the "we should buy Grealish as well" part, as if all it takes is us to say we want him and bingo!, here he comes, just like that.Very odd take that.
You could say the same any time any fan says 'we should sign X'
What you rather they said? "We should approach Aston Villa with a view to signing Jack Grealish after we've completed discussions with Borussia Dortmund for their player, Jadon Sancho"
I'm still somewhat suspicious that no other club in the last 2 years has made any move for Sancho.
Apparently he wanted to sign for us after leaving City but they wouldn't sell to us.Valuation (the asking price is very high now - and was just silly a year ago) and - dare we think so - the player's own preferences. He apparently wanted to sign for United last summer - and still does.
Excuse my ignorance on this matter but hopefully someone can clear this up for me.
What's the point in submitting a bid that we know (or are pretty sure) is going to get rejected? Is it just to test the waters or is there another meaning for it?

I wonder why, though? United hasn’t been the best since he joined City, and he admitted in an interview that he was a Chelsea fan growing up, loved Lampard and Drogba. Not that I’m complaining, but I would like to know why he fancies United now.Yes, that too - there's a long-ish history there of him fancying United (bless 'im).

United have had a clear run at Sancho because of a perfect storm that may well change in 2022. First of all, the amount of clubs that can afford Sancho reduces the possibilities to less than five.I'm still somewhat suspicious that no other club in the last 2 years has made any move for Sancho.

Because it's a negotiation and you don't know it'll be rejected til you make the offer. Clubs say all sorts of things to get the best price and there's usually room for compromise.
Nobody just straight up pays the asking price because often the asking price is artificially high. You'd feel like a dope if you paid 100m only to find out they'd actually have accepted 90.
All the big clubs were interested in him. Barca, Madrid, PSG, Bayern were ruled out long ago due to him only wanting to return to England. Within England, City wasn't an option due to how he left (from either side), so you're left with United, Liverpool, Chelsea. He's a boyhood Chelsea supporter so of course they were an option, but United was in for him for years already. Liverpool would almost certainly go for him and were a genuine threat, had they sold Mane or Salah. They haven't sold either yet so they can't afford him and he wouldn't go there. Chelsea spent a good chunk on Havertz, Ziyech, Werner, Pulisic over the past 2 years in addition to having CHO, so likely just haven't prioritized wingers and need a striker more than anything. Sancho is better than each of those, but they have decent options in big quantity, and United has been after him for years so he probably just wanted United.I'm still somewhat suspicious that no other club in the last 2 years has made any move for Sancho.

Secondly, you have to look at what those clubs have, or want to buy, and why they wouldn't be in for Sancho at the current time:
Real - want Mbappe. They are rumoured to be throwing their hat into the ring for Haaland, too. That's an outlay of over 300 million euros on two players. Plus, they're 'broke' so not going to take a punt on a costly player like Sancho.
Barca - Messi. They also are rumoured to be saving pennies for Neymar. Plus, they're 'broke' so won't be taking punts.
City - He left there for a reason. He and Pep don't get on and they're rumoured to be in for Grealish and Kane, which is an outlay of god knows how much once you add in their under the table supplementation.
Liverpool. Have Salah and Mane. Also cannot afford the outlay for Sancho without selling first.
Chelsea. Spent a gazillion on their forwards last summer and have other areas of the team to prioritise.
PSG. He isn't going there and they also aren't going to enter the market for an attacking flanker whilst having the best pairing in football currently.
Bayern. Would not match the monies needed to get him. Dortmund also less likely to sell to them, plus Sancho wants a return to England.
You can rule out Italy because he won't go there, and that's your lot.
Thirdly, supposedly, Sancho wants United. If that is indeed the case, other clubs will already know and have moved on.
Once you go beyond a certain level of player, the amount of viable clubs is always going to be thin and mostly reliant on a carousel of movement (one big signing setting the market off). We're in a fortunate position to be the only top club with an immediate need for a RWF fix, as the only other one have their eyes set on an even more expensive player.
He fancies United because he knows that he will look great in red, it's the best way to spite City, we have a talented young core of english players including players that he knows personally, United pay very well and despite many mistakes we have remained around the top of the league.
The only players that may not want to join United right now are the ones that are already in a similar clubs, the ones that prefer an other country or super stars in their prime(late 20s). And even then I would guess that it's a small minority.
Who else wants to buy Sancho?
Real & Barca have no money, PSG & Chelsea have other priorities and there's no chance he's going back to City. Bayern don't need him so it appears its a one horse race as he's certainly not in the league of Kane, Haaland or Mbappe.
It has been 2 summer in a row.So just because no other clubs can afford to buy him - we should not pay Dortmunds asking price ? Dortmund don't need to sell him - they can easily sell him for £40-50 million even next year with 1 year left of his transfer. But if we tell Sancho 2 summers in a row - sorry, we couldn't afford to buy you - I can promise you, he wont sign for us next summer.
