Dunno, I remember at the time being seriously underwhelmed by the signing. I think a lot of people were. I don't think Young ever looked like a top four player.

If you were Aston Villa, would you want to sell him before the season ends and risk the dressing room losing focus? Additionally, if he gets games for England in the Euros and they do well, his value will increase. No team in the PL is under financial pressure to sell any more.

It has got to a point where even if Pogba doesn't find a suitor, we have to push him out the club, the same way he has been pushing himself out for 2 years.
Ole has to let Pogba know that he is in none of his plans going forward, he has identified players that want to play for the club.
I agree in theory that if Pogba doesn't want to be here he should go. i do wonder though if Ole's plans will matter or if its Poch's plans that will count! Pogba might be willing to stick around for a Poch managed team, Poch may be keen to keep Pogba. Who knows.
I don't think Poch will be too keen on Pogba, I say this because he has just come of a sacking where players were acting out like Pogba is.
He knows how disruptive such a situation is so would probably want to start a new job without that.

Shouldn't matter if it's Ole or Poch. It's clear Pogba wants to go and Raiola will try to ramp up the pressure in the coming months, so I wouldn't want him to stay either way. Get players who actually care about and want to play for United.

Looks that way, you would think if you are serious about a rebuild, you get deals sorted but Ed Woodward doesn't seem to carry out any transfer activity unless it is the transfer window.
He waits for opening conversations when the window opens, most clubs do the groundwork before that.

Grealish is probably performing as one of the top ‘difference’ makers in the league. He is the kind of player that would physically be able to drag united through a match, a la Keano
I would have absolutely no issue signing both Maddison & Grealish if we hadn't got such glaring issues in CDM and on the RW which badly need addressing this summer ahead of signing another AM and maybe even another striker too.
I believe Grealish is better but still being slightly overhyped.
I also think Young’s time at United is making people forget how highly rated he was playing as a number 10 for a very good Villa side all those years ago.
I don't think we'll try to sign Grealish and Maddison now we've signed Bruno. I'm not even sure we could accommodate both of them in the side with our existing personnel. I think we'll try to get which ever one of them we can to play at CAM. Unless we think one or the other could play on the right, which seems a stretch.

Saw him vs Spurs and he caused all kinds of trouble for them. His ability and willingness to drive forward and take on a man or two is something we really lack from midfield and it would really add another dimension to our attacking play
A bit too attacking though. I'd rather have Fred and mctominay in there with bruno, and have a strong attacking front 3 instead, e.g the way Liverpool or Madrid setup. Graelish is class but he'd be wasted anywhere other than as an AM or a wide forward.
I disagree. His future is definitely as a CM.
It's where he played last year to great effect, and where he started of this season. If Villa's attackers hadn't have had so much trouble adapting to a higher level he'd still be playing as an 8 like last year, but they haven't adapted so they've needed him further forwards. He played deeper than McGinn in the championship, and worked a lot hard defensively as a result.
When he moves to a bigger team who have good attackers, he'll revert back to a CM; picking the ball up from deep, bringing it forwards, and playmaking from pretty much all over.
I do agree that a 3 of Grealish, Bruno and Fred would be too attacking, though. It'd be pretty easily overrun.
Actually yeah I do take back the bit about him as an AM or a wide forward, I did watch him in the Championship a decent bit and he's a good midfielder too. I just think he's more attacking than defensive, so it'd be a waste to play him deeper or as a pure box to box, a bit like how I think we waste Pogba when we give him that role. If we had Mctominay and Fred with Grealish I think it'd work fine, but really it we sign Grealish his competition would be Bruno as neither have the energy of Fred or mctomimay.

I'm not sure we need him in CM when we already have Fred who has proven to be a great CM for us this season.
Our priority should be a deep-lying / defensive midfielder that will offer us a better balance to our midfield.
The rest of our budget should be spent on a RW and striker.
But of course if resource allows I would love to add Grealish to our squad but only if we miss out on our primary targets

I dont think he would at all. Sir Alex seemed to move away from the individual talent and focused on consistency. Klopp seems to be from that same mould as well.
Grealish has been consistently very good all season though? And last season too.
SAF loved a quality Prem signing, and a player with character/fight/bottle... Grealish has that in spades. The fact that he's captain of his club at such a young age would be a big tick for Fergie I think.
Its consistency of output. Jack will have some great games when the play goes through him but theres times he becomes a passanger, hes doing nothing wrong but the team suffers for it.
Its why the likes of Veron, Kagawa suffered here or why he played Rooney ouy of the centre in big games and flat out wanted to sell him at one point.
Plus we never signed midfilders anyway!
If we sign Grealish and Sancho in the summer you can consider us back in business as a regular top 4 team again. Throw a striker or Maddison in there as well and we'll be in very good shape.
Grealish is consistently the best player in his team and around the top of a lot of stats in the prem for creativity, most fouled, etc
You can see the it, he is a Manchester United player. A leader, and great english talent.
We could end up having a good core of English players in our team in the next few years.

His team yes but SAF seemed to want passers in midfield as he evolved. Someone to spread the ball to the wingers and shield the defence. Thats not Jack and he wouldnt have enough pace for a wideman in his side.

Ah ok, I thought you were just implying he wasn't consistent enough for SAF. I agree that's not him, but we don't play the same style, I think he would fit our style quite well now.
Watched him closely in first half against Spurs and was very impressed. With total shite around him, he still caused Spurs trouble and villa should have been two up early on. Would go for him ahead of Maddison every time. If we could link link him with two other great midfielders he could become a superstar. Also love his passion, effort and temperament
