Sell Pogba for 100m
Buy Grealish for 50m

Has to be the first order of business we do this summer, as soon as Villa’s relegation is confirmed.

Graelish will go for a lot more than 50M , he is going to have a lot of big clubs inquiring about him at the end of the season.

Depends where he wants to go. I think if Villa go down, somewhere around 50m would get him.

I would love us to buy him if only because my housemate is a Villa fan and will shit himself with fury.

He really is a class act. He gets let down so much by his team mates.

He's turned into a brilliant player but where do you see him fitting in?

Grealish plays as a #10 or drifts in from left, Rashford obviously has that LW position sewn up which leaves #10. Now, there are two problems. 1) Top sides these days don't play with a 10; 2) We signed a player in Bruno who thrives as a 10 but he can actually play as an 8 something Grealish can't (at least at the same level as he does as an AM)

Grealish is an AM while our needs are that of a CM/DM. In attack, signing a quality RW and a striker ranks higher on the agenda as well.

He would still be a good signing but I don't think he'd improve structural or functional issues in our team much, because it would mean either him or Bruno don't get utilized efficiently.

Grealish played as an 8 at the start of season, he didn't even look half the player he does now. Moving him higher up the pitch has changed Villas' fortune.
I agree. We need a right winger, striker and defensive mid first. If we sell pogba then Grealish would be great, but he’d still likely have to rotate a bit with Bruno. He’s much better at dribbling and holding onto the ball than Bruno though.

My best mate is 40% Villa fan and 60% a fan of hating United. Grealish to us would make my year.

Dreadful.

He just has that bit of swagger and arrogance about him which says I deserve to be playing at Old Trafford on a regular basis, however still got this feeling we could still go for Maddison over him despite Grealish being a better fit for Utd right now and would provide us with some much needed leadership too.

It seems like we're doing a lot of the groundwork right now to get this transfer done which will hopefully give us an advantage.

50m seems reasonable because Villa will have to sell because of FFP which doesn't give them much bargaining power.

Apart from Spurs I can't think of any of the other big teams being interested in Grealish.

Yeah can only see us going for Grealish when Pogba is sold which I am convinced he will be in the summer, totally agree we need to prioritise RW & DM ahead of him but think the striker situation is still very much up in the air at the moment. We haven't signed more than three players in the summer window since 2016 so not holding out much hope of any more.

For those worrying about where he'd fit in, don't. He's one of those bracket of players who you just need to sign then work that out later. Yes he's that good. You don't want him going anywhere else.

What have you heard we are doing behind the scenes? We need some ITK positivity about this deal.

Watching him vs Spurs i think he is the real deal. He has been doing it for a while now. His never say die attitude is also aligned with the type of players we are looking at now. So i say go and get him now. Announce him when summer window open.

I can stand by that sentiment. We can take the pragmatic approach where our midfield plus Grealish along with a couple of additions in attack should see us be a solid top four side. There is a chance that Grealish still steps another level and becomes the type of player I want to see in our midfield.

An example of midfield I’d like would be Carrick, Pogba, Eriksen(all in their prime) type midfield where everyone‘s a creative midfielder with different responsibilities. But at the moment I suppose we can’t expect top players to come in and I can see why we would try to pick players who seem to be on the cusp and would easily be an improvement on our current players.

The players we are targeting aren't much different to what you said. Grealish is a very creative player, capable of also bringing the ball from deep positions and driving forward. Bruno can do the same and McTominay too. They all have varying levels of each which is complimentary (for example McTominay can operate deeper and work his socks off when we don't have possession, Grealish can ghost into wider positions better, Bruno can be more direct).

This notion of wanting to forego Grealish for a more creative outlet is nonsense. A midfield combination of him/Maddison/Bruno/McT/Fred would be suitably creative. The problem areas lie in the players beyond them. The inconsistency of our only natural striker and the lack of a right winger taking up 2/3 spots.

Bruno and Grealish can works together with someone like Ndidi behind them.

Tielemans Ndidi Madison is soo similar to Bruno Mctominay Grealish.

However i like to buy him, we must have many options. What if Bruno is injured? Who wil replace him? Pereira? Lingard?

Prefer Grealish to Maddison….but gladly take both.

Lingard, Jones and Pogba out - and Grealish, Maddison and Sancho in - that would be a good summer.

Net cost shouldn't be more than £70-80 million

The net cost would be way more.

In
Sancho £120m
Maddison £100m
Grealish £60m

= £280m

Out
Pogba £120m
Lingard £15m
Jones £5m

= £140m

Our net spend would be more near £140m, maybe more. No ones going to give us a decent fee for Jones or Lingard.

We will probably have a 20 million coming from Smalling too. Those 3 would improve our team massively. But I still think we need a defensive midfielder and a left back to have a balanced team.

I think you are massively underestimating the importance someone as experienced and talented as Jones could bring to a newly promoted club and I am shocked than none of the new clubs have taken a punt on him. He is a very good defender whose confidence has been rocked by injuries and makes him unsuitable for this level but for a club coming up into the league or trying to stay up he will be golden without the pressure of having to be on it for 38 games. He is easily worth 20m but I think we should be able to get 10m to 15m for him.

Glaelish is class,he's a proper united player.
I dont think there's problem playing both bruno and Grealish next season with Poch as the manager.

Both can play in a diamond

..............DDG/Hendo........

AWB......VNL?..Maguire.....Shaw/Williams
.......................Mct/fred.......
....Fred/MCT..............Graelish....
........................Bruno.......................

...............Sancho/Martial..........Rashford

Or in a 4222 formation

..............DDG/Hendo........

AWB......VNL?..Maguire.....Shaw/Williams .............Fred.................Mct
............Bruno..............Graelish
......Sancho/Martial/ST.......Rashford .

Or play him as a mezzala in a 352 formation. One of the CBs can step into the DM for interceptions and markings and the wing backs falling back to look like a 4222 when out of possession
............DDG/Hendo.......
.....AWB........VNL....Maguire
Dalot......Fred/McT..........Williams/Shaw
........Bruno................Grealish

We can also play a flat 433
..............DDG/Hendo........
AWB......VNL?..Maguire.....Shaw/William
..........Bruno...Mct/Fred.....Graelish
Sancho.....Martial/ST...........Rashford

Or we play 4231 when Bruno,Grealish or Rashford needs rest, injured or for tactical reasons

Grealish, CM/DM and Sancho is better IMO. Grealish, Maddison and Fernandes would make no sense.

True, these three signings should and will take us up a level. Adding Maddison into the equation is just a waste, its hard enough to conjure up a formation that gets the best out of both Bruno and Grealish but with a top tier DM I think we can play one of them as an 8 and the other as a ten. I also think that there is a chance that Bruno could struggle further up the pitch due to lack of space and limited time on the ball which he could get if he started deeper.

I always laugh when I see the diamond formation in these fantasy teams.

Sorry I was referring to the 3 out and 3 in the original poster mentioned, we'd have nowhere near a net spend of 70-80m with that turn around happening.

But yeah we should get a decent figure for Smalling and we should be targeting a CDM, I agree but apparently the emergence of Williams have made us shelve plans for a LB.

Ok Jonesy, you've convinced me!

Or maybe you're overestimating his abilities, as he's actually not that good and would be very unreliable for a newly promoted team given his injury record.

I'm sorry but the bold part hugely contradicts itself, a team trying to avoid relegation, playing without pressure for 38 games?

i won't deny that possibility but the guy has played for title winning teams, the CL and been a PL defender for nearly ten years so he has value. I want him sold but I don't think we have to give him away, which we will be doing at 5m, I just think we should aim hire. My point about pressure is that at Manchester United have to play well in each and every games, that's the standard demanded, but when you are playing for Norwich or Brighton people will accept that City or Liverpool will come in and hand them a new one so with that pressure out of the way I think we will see an improved Jones.

Spot on,we simply have to be targeting a CM/DM this summer along with the other two

Grealish is going from strength to strength, whereas Maddison is suffering from a drop in form recently.

Grealish seems to have leadership and more tenacity to play for us compare to Maddison.

Grealish and Sancho just seem like Manutd players IMO. Number 7 and Grealish to replace Pogba.

Can someone please explain what's stopping us to complete one or two transfers in next 2 months(just like Chelsea did recently) and focus on other 2 targets in Summer window rather trying to sign all 4/5 at a time and putting ourselves under immense pressure?

Good players but I think Sancho, Grealish and Soumare bring in more balance to the team along with a top striker.
Agree that a solid CD and a LW to the list (total-6 players) improves our team but I think our focus should be on 4 players in Midfield/Forward positions if we cant do 6 transfers at a time.

Nothing at the moment but if we are after Grealish, surely we'd want to wait and see if Villa stay in the PL first before making offers? If they're relegated, it'll make it easier for us.

Same with the likes of Sancho. I'm sure he'd be reluctant to agree a deal right now, and would rather wait and see if we actually get in the CL first.

Things just become clearer once everyone knows where teams will stand next season.

Random question.
Do people think Grealish performing at a higher level for Villa currently than A. Young was around 08-12?

People are talking about Grealish replacing Pogba, but isn't Bruno Fernandes already the replacement for Pogba? Wasn't he signed for the same position as an AM?

For the midfield we already have: Matic, Fred, McT, Pogba, Fernandes, Lingard, Mata. That's 7 players for 3 positions and very heavy on the AM side. If there's any part of that MF that looks more jittery it's DM for me, as Matic seems to be on his last season and we don't have a capable DM other than him.

Unless Lingard and Mata follow Pogba out the door, splurging on an another AM (be it Maddison or Grealish) does not seem prudent this summer. Not while we have priorities on DM, RW and CF positions. And neither of these guys will be happy to come and sit on the bench , I don't think anyway, so we'll have to see how Bruno does first and if he can make AM his own.

Yes. Graelish looks way too good to be at Villa and good enough for a team competing at the top. Young was pretty much at his level with Villa, maybe a top 6-7 player at best. He was never good enough for Utd.

If he comes here We’ll end up selling Pogba for £90m and buying Grealish for £80m.

I don’t actually have a problem in the sale/purchase. Pogba clearly wants to be Winning things elsewhere.

But you just know that United will manage to make their respective values closer together than any other club would.

Villa were top 6 team when Young played for them and he is lot better that what you are suggesting. He was in PFA team of the year for 2 years and won PFA young player of the year before he signed for ManUtd.

I wonder what the overlap is between people who call Grealish 'Graelish' and people who call Maguire 'McGuire'?
