Jack Grealish / signs new 5 year contract

Grealish said in an interview he would only leave Villa if they avoided relegation. Hes captain. Boyhood fan. I imagine he has a good relationship with club and manager. I don't think he will let Villa price him out if he wants to leave.

I keep hoping he has an agreement to leave for fair price but do worry they will talk him into staying now
 
50m for someone you admit is coming in as a sub is incredible for a non oil club. I cannot see the Glazers sanctioning that.

He seems like he has belief in his own ability so reckon he would back himself to get into this team

He would be a rotation option, that's a bit different. We would have 6 excellent options for 4 positions if we signed Sancho and him. That's not overkill at all. A problem with Bruno or Rashford and we are in deep trouble.

Bruno is now a 80m+ player after playing 6 months in the PL. He came from Portugal, big difference.
 
Even before the news they wanted £60-£70 million for him I still don't think we would've paid above £40m.

Bruno actually seems to get a lot of decisions from the referees so targetting him repeatedly would likely lead to a penalty or red card, only team who got away with it was Chelsea but that was the most one-sided refereeing display in recent memory.
 
It's ridiculous that some folk think that we can splash 60+mil€ for the squad player like we have an endless flow of oil money to spend.

We can though. I don't know how many times it has to be repeated but we won't be paying the full transfer fee up front so the price may be £60m but the fee this summer will be between £20m - £30m.
 
Something about Grealish that has people wetting their shorts for him. I find it ridiculous people think we should spend more than 40m for Grealish that would be rotation. Surely he's not the only good back up AM in the world or is he?

We're in for Sancho also and he's going to cost us £100m. We can't be in for everyone in that price range, we need solid bench options also

Not sure I’d want us to pay that if it’s gunna start costing us £60m+.

I rate him and think he would be a good signing for our squad to add to the options in rotating. But I supported the signing back when it looked like Villa were doomed and he may have been available for £40m or so. He’ll cost a lot more now and I think we could spend that money more wisely.

If anything, that shows we can get quality players who are less expensive than Grealish no?

We certainly didn't buy him for the first team when we already had Pogba, McTomminay, Lingard, Mata, Hererra and Matic all in there. He hardly played for the first 6 months, Mourinho even told him he was done at United.

I'd be willing to bet Grealish would play more than most people are expecting so this £50m for a bench warmer doesn't make sense.

If we didn't have a gaping hole in some positions I wouldn't have anything against signing him. If we will have a decent amount of money to spend I would rather spend it on Sancho, new CDM and alternative for Shaw.

Honestly, if we seek for the depth we should look for Buendia, Brooks and similar players that can cover CAM and RW.

Sancho is priority for sure but then we have a big Bruno shaped hole in the team whenever he's out and that is our biggest downfall. We're stocked at fullback with Laird and Williams coming through, for at least next season anyway. I get the feeling McTomminay is being groomed for DM, there's also Garner and Levitt to come in and prove they can fill that role.

Brooks and Buendia are good shouts but Grealish is the second most creative player in the league, while playing for Villa. You don't pass up on these players when they're available because you feel like being tight.

Chelsea are trying to sign Havertz despite being well stocked in his position and not needing him. Get great players when they come available and worry about the other stuff later.

He’d play in every single game, whether it be starting or first attacking substitution. Our first attacking substitution at present is either Lingard or James. Even Spurs, Arsenal and Leicester are bringing players off the bench more likely to score than they are.

We need six or seven quality options across the front four. Just like City manage to keep Aguero, Sterling, Mahrez, Silva, Bernardo, Foden, De Bruyne and Jesus relatively happy, we need to be able to do the same.

This thread is full of people that seem to have a problem with buying good players. It’s a little odd.

Yeah I think he would play more than most think as well. I still believe Utd will go for him despite Villa staying up but makes it trickier.

Put it his way, 30 minutes to go and we need a goal. We either bring on Bruno for Grealish or Grealish for Bruno the opposition knows what's coming at that point and the game is only going to go one way.
 
I have to be honest, I just don't see the hype with him at all. I also dont see why we need him.

His main positions are CAM and LW, both where we have options.

CAM
Bruno
Pogba
Even Greenwood and Fred can play there.

LW
Rashford
James
Martial

Chong can also play both of those spots and I have to be honest I think we will be keeping one of Mata, Perreria, Lingard. To me it makes much more sense to get a top class CDM and then its 2 from 5 / 6 in our 2 midfield

New CDM
Pogba
Matic
Mct
Fred
Also Garner for some cup mins.


This would also allow us to rotate Pogba into the 10 position some matches who is already a better 10 than whoever were going to sign anyways.

Playing for the worst team that was in the pl. 4th in chances created while doing that too. And he's cheaper because he's in the championship and isn't english. You've probably not seen Buendia enough if you don't think he's a good cheaper alternative to an overpriced Grealish
 
I don't like doing Liverpool comparisons but, they signed Wjinaldum, Lalana and Shakiri who's all done a job for them over the years. Grealish is better than all of them.

You're right, I haven't seen him enough but I think coming from Norwich to United is a big step up. Being expected to win every week is a different level. Grealish carried Villa out of relegation and kept them up, that's a different mentality there.
