I would welcome either VDB or Grealish. However, I think VDB would provide us with more options than Grealish in midfield. It is very important to have a strong bench and I think VDB would offer that. Unfortunately, I don't we're interested and he's probably going to Real instead.
Sancho, VDB, Koulibaly/ Konate would be great signings and would help us level the playing field.
As it says in the top it's chances created by the other 14, as in not top6! Got it off Twitter somewhere.
We spent 15m on James, who had a bright start for us but really doesn’t look the part long term.

Well if he doesn’t turn up then why would we want another player who melts in the big games?
If his heart is set on coming to Utd then there will be nothing Villa can do about it regardless of what division he is in and the relegated clubs do not suddenly go broke when they get relegated.
The price will be the same regardless.
Grealish is a proven premier league player. Pep will buy Nathan Ake because he knows he is ready made for English football. Its exactly the same reason with Grealish. Better than we currently have as our bench.
If he didn’t convince you the previous 37 games I doubt this one game is going to change your mind. He has 9 goals and 8 assists all season. But the chances he has created for his teammates are far more and his assists would be far higher if his teammates actually took the chances they got - consequence of playing in prolly the 2nd worst offense.
Also no the price won’t be the same. That’s common knowledge. You don’t get the same prize money if you get relegated. For example Villa got 160m just for getting promoted last season due to the prize money and tv rights/commercial revenue. Hence they can afford to have higher overhead costs and pay their players more. So typically their need to sell is reduced, not eliminated but reduced. So they demand a higher fee for him if they end up not getting relegated.
Now when they get relegated obviously they won’t get the same prize money. They have to cut costs. So they have to sell to balance their books. Second reason is players might have relegation clauses/gentleman agreement meaning if they go down a release clause automatically comes into play.

Being ready made for English football is one thing but the fees probably another thing. Ake cost 50m-60m last summer. This summer if Bournemouth got relegated, he will only cost 35m. Pep wouldn't dare to sign Ake for just backup role for 50m-60m.
Same goes with Grealish, ignoring the price, he'll be absolutely good additional in the squad but the price is just not worthy for the role he will be given. Another thing is that Bruno is like Liverpool Mane/Salah, likely going to play 30+ league games and 40-50 in all comp because he's just our key player. Grealish is probably going to get about 10-15 league starter at max as Rashford/Bruno backup (Looking at the amount of Perisic (11) & Coutinho (15) got this season at Bayern).
Does he want to play that amount of games in the first place? Do we need to pay anything 50m-70m for someone who's only going to play that amount of games? Because if he somehow unhappy with it and ask to be sold, we will find it difficult to refund what we pay for.
I said it earlier in the thread, but there is no way we pay any more than 40 million for Grealish.
I don't see why Villa would want to part for him for less than that. He's their talisman and fans love him. Just look at how much AWB cost, yet he wasn't their talisman.
Honestly, I hope we go for Benrahma over Grealish. Benrahma is technically gifted, and statistically outperformed Grealish last season in the championship. Both are the same age and he'll be cheaper if Brentford don't make the PL.

His fee will be dictated by how he intends to leave the club. He could have tried for a move some time ago but has stuck with Villa. If they try to block his path out [if he actually wants one] by pricing him out of a move then we could see him kicking up a fuss.
If Villa stay up they can at least act like they’re willing to play hardball over the transfer.
Perhaps he & Villa have an agreement in place, who knows but if we can get him for less than £40mil I’ll be impressed.
You'd think so considering he's been a red devil most of his life! Can't find them now, but he's posted a dozen tweets cheering us on over the years.
We could definitely use him to come in for squad depth, as after Bruno and Pogba our midfielders to occupy those roles are more workhorses than creative players, but I'll stand by what I said before, that we shouldn't be spending too much of our budget on squad depth until all the holes in the first team have been fixed.

How's his tackling and positioning? Can he play in a midfield 2 or only as an attacker? How's his tracking back, is he ever lazy off the ball? Does his head ever drop when his team is losing? Is he disciplined in midfield or just does what he wants?
We already know his strengths, if we start to watch him week in week out we'll pick up on his weaknesses so why not get a head start on that right now?

Me too but the worm is turning. We need good quality reinforcements and he has the skills and the attitude to maybe surprise us. Mata, Lingaard, Perreira are not the way forwards. Grealish for 30million could be a good piece of business.
Mata, Lingard, and Pereira surely are finished. I think the policy on transfers should be signing young prospects and starters. The prospects are players like Hannibal we can develop in our system. Beyond youth, we need to be buying players that can challenge for the starting role. The player who comes in second becomes back up. Neither Grealish nor any top player will take a move to sit on the bench. We should not be buying players for the bench.
I think Grealish would work well with Bruno if Pogba leaves. If Pogba stays there is no room.

I think so. It was either that or the 2nd most. I just think people need to stop over hyping him. This is his first season in the premier league after spending rest of his career in the EFL championship at 24. He ain't no wonderkid in the making. People have even implied he is better than Bruno and will take his spot. For me he has to do that next season as well to convince me. Players have great 1st seasons in the premier league then fall off a cliff. Plus he has had various bad personal incidents including the one in lockdown which makes me question if he can handle being at big club not being first choice. Of course I am not saying to people who want us to sign him that they are wrong.
But how do you know he can make it at a big club like Manchester United. This is his first season at premier league level after spending the rest of the time in the championship at 24. He could be a one season wonder. It's not a given he could succeed for those reasons.
I don't know mate, I feel Greslish is the more matured player and is more adaptable to playing as a LW, AM and 8 and half.
I would love Benrhama though assuming we are getting Sancho and clearing the whole of Mata, Lingard, Pereira and James.
We could have Sancho, Rashford, and Benrhama for the wings, Martial and Greenwood for ST and Bruno /Grealish for AM but squad harmony may be a problem.
I mean, the exact same could be said about Bruno. Bruno was a decent player in Seria A for a few years without being anything amazing. It wasn't until he went to quite a weak Portuguese league that he really took off (at the age of 23). Then he joined us (at 25 years old) and has had a fantastic half a season in the Premier League. Even then his form has been dropping off a bit for the last 6 or so matches (although he was still getting the vital goals and assists in the first few of them). We don't actually know what his average level is going to be over the course of a season or two. Obviously we all hope it's going to continue, but I do worry that his average performance may not be quite as good as what we all think it will be.
I mean your not wrong. I just think people should calm their expectations on Jack Grealish. If we sign him, he is on the bench and Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba will be our main creative midfielders. To say otherwise is just silly.
The overwhelming majority here expect him to be on the bench for Pogba and Fernandes if he was to sign for United. So what are you talking about?
Grealish would start ahead of the current Pogba. People should stop pretending he is an automatic starter. Fred was performing better than him before lockdown. If Ole was a strong enough manager, Pogba will be on the bench today. I personally think Pogba won't be here next season, hopefully the club invest that money wisely.

I can see Pogba leaving as well, rumours that he’s happy and is seeking a new contract hasn’t gone anywhere. I doubt the club are going to be overly keen to give him a big pay increase, as it’s not only fees clubs are worrying about long term.
I would be happy with United replacing Pogba with Grealish.
You've literally watched Bruno get run into the ground over the last 5 weeks yet you've managed to reach this conclusion?
Grealish would offer cover for Bruno first and foremost, but also for Rashford on the left and at a pinch, Pogba in the deeper midfield role.
There would be plenty of games for all of them.

That is 100% incorrect, he’s played 68 premiere league games and made his debut ages ago when Villa were in the premier league. He’s been their best player for some time and looks very comfortable playing in the league.
What? Hes single handedly has carried a terrible Villa this year. Would be an amazing transfer for us.
It's the natural conclusion to reach. The first team can and should be improved so why spend time and money on backup/rotation/squad options when it can be put to better use. Solskjaer has barely changed anything. Rather than looking for someone of higher quality to give one of Pogba, Rashford or Bruno a rare day off, upgrade in other positions where weaker players are starting week in week out.
The only thing anybody should question about Grealish is how much he would cost.
Usually I dont trust my judgement of players. I dont see it with the most nailed on super stars and am easily impressed by the poorest dross, all regarded in hindsight. I was sure Memphis would be the next Ronaldo and that City heavily overpaid for De Bruyne.
But with Grealish, it's there for all to see. Hes so far and away Villas best player, always looking to make things happen, lot of energy and drive. And the best part, even the stats back it up, at least in his current setup he's showing real class.
Only slight concern for me would be if it's a case of big fish small pond syndrome, and of course the price.
