Jack Grealish | Man City

He's too much of a party boy to be a top player.

Look at the summer before they signed him. Drunk driving and crashing, seen on holiday passed out on the floor drunk.

The fame has got to him. Instead of knuckling down and kicking on he's got worse. Anybody else would be talked as a massive flop but because it's city the money doesn't matter

wearing your socks low and an alice band makes you a top flairy continental player

6 goals 4 assists is the lowest return of the 3 :wenger:
Thankfully stats is not everything in football, never have been and never will be.

Anyway, there is no doubt that I expect and hope he will improve on last season, he has not justified the significant outlay with his performances alone yet but the point is that the timing for this thread to get another couple of pages today is just weird. I doubt 90% of the posters even saw the game or knew about his injury situation the past few weeks but they just pile on.

He was very good in his last start against West Ham, and on current form he will walk straight into the team over Foden that has struggled so far this season. Then it is upto him if he keeps his spot

City bought him just for the sake of it. They never needed him.

I agree. Lets see midway through the season

People here seemed to consider him as some mix between Keane and Ronaldhinio when he was at Villa. Apparently he had this elite leader mentality. At City I see the absolute opposite. A passive player who appears (mostly due to liking the ball just being at his feet) to be involved but doesn't actually do much and not enough fire to his game. Big season for him. Needs to step it up. Pep marginalising and letting go of Sterling is a show of faith in Grealish.

Just a classic case of a guy who looks amazing in a small team when they completely play through him and aim to give him the ball every time they get possession but disappears when he becomes a cog in the machine. Zaha another example
I've aways hated the fallacy of "well, he's been good for Midtable FC so imagine how good he'd look and how many goals/assists he'd get surrounded by better players!"

It's like people don't even consider the fact that when you're surrounded by better players not everything goes through you anymore, and those better players are going to get a larger share of the goals/assists than your old teammates did.
You're also going have to perform at your best at all times just to stay in the team which you might not be capable of. Even if you are, your best might very well not be good enough technically (Wan-Bissaka), physically (Maguire), mentally (Shaw/Zaha), or some combination thereof.
Finally, there's all the off pitch pressures of playing for a team that's always in the media spotlight. Some people take to the spotlight and pressure naturally, but many don't.

Surely a well dodged bullet by now for every club that had been even remotely interested in him. This guy offers absolutely nothing, going in any direction. Weirdest transfer of Pep era for City and one of the Premier League's most expensive flops. Possibly the most expensive one, can't be bothered to check the numbers.

Not a word about city pissing £100
million on this fella but if he joined the red side of Manchester we’d be destroyed for it.

City was a disaster of a move for him, but he's a great player.

Anyone think his massively public piss up of a summer, has to do with him not featuring much?

Probably because City win things. Nobody cares if you waste money if you still win. We're bantered for spending a billion and winning nothing.

I really don't see anything great in him. Not in terms of modern football at least.

I’m still of the mind that he was brought in just for marketing. City goal was to get him and Kane (City did need a striker at the time)as a way to show they are now the “biggest” club in England.

A very stupid way to waste £100 million.

One of these clubs dominate the league. The other can't even win League Cup at the moment.

Doesn't strike me as a player who has the hunger to go on a level.

Has the colossal contract, has a PL medal. Probably happy to coast on that.

Was better than Haaland, Mahrez, KDB and Gundogan, so the best of our front 5 first half but he's severly lacking confidence.

Seems like a player that needs the right environment. Probably needs to be the big fish. No doubt he was good for Villa. Not convinced he isn't a very good player but City are a different level, you have to be good on and off the ball and a complete team player for Pep to be happy.

I thought he was terrible tbh.

He wasn't great but at least he ran at people the other 4 just scratched their balls and ball watched. Kind of the typical 5/10 Jack in a City shirt. Pretty sure he had all our shots in the first half.

He's so much better than that, though. He just seemed to make the wrong decisions, and kept trying to dribble past defenders with little success. I don't think he's anywhere near as good as some make him out to be, but he's definitely better than his recent performance suggest.

If you win trophies nobody cares I think

Is it though? We were bantered for Berbatov being "a 30 million flop" when we were winning leagues and Grealish isn't fit to bring him water let alone compare as a footballer.

Oh 100% he should be delivering more, just today I think its unfair to single him out when everyone was terrible. The problem for Jack is its common for him to underperform and not for the rest. I'd agree with that take, he's no world beater and probably not better than Foden when Phil is on form but he's a far better player than we're seeing at City. I think the price tag has messed with his head a bit, he's afraid to mess up and not taking chances or playing his natural game.

Nah he looked good yesterday it was the other 4 who were just like almost static and passive.

He must have been brilliant last season - according to Fotmob, he was the 12th best player in the league with an average rating of 7,56. Better than Rice, VVD, Mane, Jorginho etc. Weird how he said himself that he was disappointed with the season; Rio said he underachieved (mabe he expected a 9,99 rating), and the general consensus was that he flopped and needed to improve this season. We are all in the wrong - stats never lie!

His rating this season for his two matches is 7,50, so a little less, but still quite brilliant - zero goals and assists mind you.
