Jack Grealish | Man City

He constantly slows down an attack by falling to the ground at every opportunity. It’s almost as if he prefers winning free kicks over beating a man and continuing forward.

He’s just so poor. He will end up back at Villa.

Bernado Silva spent a season on the bench at City, Sterling more or less has too, and Gundogan, think Grealish is being written off very early in his first season at City

I don't disagree with you, but when you blow a 9 digit amount on one player, most clubs would kind of expect him to play regularly.

Of course it can also be argued that the amount is peanuts for the Abu Dhabi Investment Fund.

Berando Silva at the time cost a lot of money too

About £43m wasn't it? I think even at the time that was universally regarded as a steal. Bear in mind this is the summer Neymar completely reset the market by going to PSG too.

Everton paid more for Gylfi Sigurdsson and Barca ended up paying nearly 3x that for Coutinho. City got a bargain and everyone knew it from day 1. It was one of those deals where I heard the fee and thought there must be hidden extras that weren't reported because it was so low.

City did that deal before Neymar reset the market though didn’t they?

100m for him was never reasonable. Glad it isn't us overpaying for once.

Compare the press noise for him at City though compared to if he was playing for us

I specifically remember being sat in an airport when the Bernardo deal was announced and a table of us (all football fans) being amazed at how cheap he was.

£100m Gucci Grealish struggling at city ? Who would have thunk it?

Can anybody tell me who were the posters that compared him to the one and only Ronaldinho ? The guy is not even fit to lace dinho’s boots neither in entertainment nor in anything. Who were these geniuses ?

Depressing to see how much attacking talent City have at the moment, any of their attackers would stroll past Rashford and Sancho into the United team currently.

I doubt it. I wouldn't take Sterling, Jesus or Grealish over Sancho.

He was he never fit in on the right wing and only when Pep started using him in the centre he started to excel.

Do you not feel the same with Grealish?

He doesn't seem like a LW and more a LAM.

The fact he is not playing now doesn't mean he is not gonna be relevant next season. Its normal at clubs like City players to rot on the bench for a while. You only need to watch him at the ball to see he is a top talent. Of course he can fit in that team and style at some point. People do not get tired of writing off players like that when they have a slow start? Mane, Aubameyang, even Bernardo Silva. Its the same thing and the same threads every time.

For those that have watched him this season, how has his stamina been in comparison to the others. City's players generally have a terrific engine.

I'm willing to give him the benefit for now but I don't think he was the work ethic, will to improve Bernardo has. I think Jack will have more in common with Mahrez where he'll always be used on the wing. He doesn't work hard enough to play midfield at City.

He's been pretty fit and he's not been as bad as made out, he just seems to lack the final ball etc.. HIs press has been ok, sometimes great but not consistent (kinda like Mahrez). I wouldn't question his fitness not techinque as much as his mentality and ability to adapt to being just another cog in a machine when he was to be the engine.

On top of that, Bernardo Silva joined City at 22, Grealish is 26. You're far more coachable when you're at an early stage of your carreer.

Also depends on how smart you are. And Grealish doesn't strike me as particularly smart. Even if football IG is sometimes different than off the pitch IQ.

was noticeable how quickly Pep gave up on that idea at the start on the season

I'd agree with that. Its why I think Mahrez was a better comparison, same age, no change of position etc.. the big thing being even when Mahrez struggled tactically he still has end product (even if he's a greedy bastard at times)

Yeah, think he got one games vs Spurs and it was immediately clear he was lost.

The other big issue no one talks about is the switch to 4231 we've made recently (which has seen Bernardo play beside Rodri). He can't play those roles and while we've began using a no.10 again which might suit him, he's not near the level of KDB.

It's actually incredible how little fuss is being made on his lack of game time. I guess it helps a lot, when the team is winning, but spunking £100m on him looks really stupid at this point. If they do end up getting Haaland there will effectively be one less potential spot for him, since it will mostly put an end to using the likes of Silva and Foden as false nines.

He is arguably the 5th or 6th best attacking midfielder/winger in the club. I would definitely put him behind KDB, Foden, Silva, Mahrez and Gündogan.

Maybe because until the last 2 weeks he hasn't had a lack of game time and played just as much as every other City attacker. Gundogan has played far less recently for example.

Hes not a good fit for City IMO. Was a really strange signing especially considering the £100m fee. I'm sure he will be decent for them over his time there but square peg in a round hole.

Fair enough, lack of impact would be more appropriate.

Less is also being made cos City arent just every club. We know this. They can take a hit every once in a while, and they are winning trophies.

Whereas for United, we might have the money, but if we pay that much, we need the player to be an instant hit especially at that age, given how shit our recruitment has been.

I think less is being made of it because City just aren't as big a club and don't generate the clicks that United and Liverpool do to be honest. Grealish also has the bonus of being England's golden boy so he's afforded more of a chance than most. I mean even people here were clamoring for him to bench Raheem at the Euro's despite Sterling being one of the best players and Jack offering pretty little when he got on.

Also you are successful. When a team is winning people don't question the manager/club as much. If Liverpool beat you to all the trophies them I'm sure it'll be highlighted. And I don't think a big transfer gone wrong (this hasn't yet) impacts City in any material manner.

Still too early to write him off. Guys like Rodri and Cancelo for example took about a year to adjust.

Fair points too.

He is an individualistic player who needs the ball a lot to reach his best level. He is very talented but his style of play is not likely to suit a top team who need the collective to work more than the individual.

Has he played at least one full game of football a week this season?

Cos if not, that's a lack of game time.
