Jack Fletcher

How come he plays for England?

Well he was born in England for starters. His brother Tyler has represented both I believe, but I guess if you’re highly talented you want to go for the better footballing nation. If it looks like he’s not going to become full international for England, he can always go back to playing for Scotland.

I do like me a left footed midfielder too. For those mentioning Guti, I’ll throw in a Redondo too.

Jack is very good at creating space for me in the final third I think that’s why he has been moved forward for now. His passing from deep and vision are other traits that caught my eye.

Tyler I’ve said before will end up more like his dad I think. This isn’t a criticism as Darren was one of my favourite players, but his definitely more of a presser and more a pass a move game for what I’ve seen.
Now, If you’re really born in the eighties, that’s a bit men vs boys, innit?

I’ve never been able to find out for sure I Ole injured his knees with that celebration. Lots of rumours that he did.

He had a minor injury from it that caused him to miss a couple of summer internationals for Norway. He got injured against Panathinaikos in 2003, and that’s the one that ultimately caused him to retire in 2007. He was out for over a year with it after having a setback on his initial return. Was never the same after.

Christ I must be out because I winced at that jumping knee slide.

Haha I know. The first one was a poor attempt, but excuses can be made for it being such a lovely strike.

But the second one? Just a strange jump leading into the slide. It had to hurt.

I was going to add that same point to my post, that surely his dad would warn him about Ole and the dangers of a knee slide celebration, but I wasn't exactly sure and I thought that someone would jump on it and "well, actually" me that he has never confirmed it etc etc.

I feel more old about watching his father's debut at Man Utd

Same. My cousin who’s about 10 years older than me was with us watching it and she went “phwor who’s that?” when he came on and everyone thought she was joking. Turned out she wasn’t and she married this big ugly fella who doesn’t look dissimilar to Fletch. To be fair to Fletch, he matured into a better looking guy than my cousin’s partner did.

Fantastic player. Hope to see him make his first team debut this season or next!

Seems a very good player at this level. Wonder how he will fare against adults, might lack real pace and power for the PL. But technically and his vision is great, great shot on him as well.

Darren needs to be doing a paternity test. He could gallop for days.

It’s important to remember that’s he’s not 18 until a few weeks time, he does have excellent stamina like his father but not blistering pace, and he still has to grow into a man’s body, weirdly his twin brother is a little taller than Jack who is 5’11 and Tyler is 6’0/6’1. Jack has a very high football IQ which is why he might make it, incredibly cultured left foot and plays more like a slightly faster more physical version of Juan Mata than a robust BTB midfielder like his Dad?

He has a chance as do at least 7 or 8 other youth players to make into the first team squad?

It might not be a fair comparison given how special a talent Dowman appears to be but I think the game the other day showed the kind of levels you need to be to eventually make it as a 10 at a “top” club, as well as Jack played and as good as he is. Could definitely see him having a good career if he keeps applying himself though.

Dowman is a Wayne Rooney type of talent. Or maybe Jack Wilshere (for those who remember him at that age). Not all talents or players develop like that. Do you remember Bruno or KdB at 15? Probably not.

I know development isn’t linear, but this position is notoriously difficult for players to come through in at top clubs, you normally have to be exceptional. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Jack have a great career, technically he’s very gifted.

I’m only forecasting, and given how poor we’ve been of late I wouldn’t put it past him making his mark in the first team eventually if our struggles continue. For where we want to be though I just don’t know if he’s physically got it.

You are probably right.

Personally, I have followed players like Odegaard and Damsgaard quite closely. Neither started to fullfil their potential before 24ish. I think that is hard to do at a club at Man Utd. Unless you have a really great coach who see your talent and are able/willing to wait and use you right in the period between 20 and 24 (like Scholes for Ferguson).

Given our lack of options at the moment in attacking areas, I’d like to see him get an opportunity on the bench
