It is ever possible to speak positively about a win?

Yeah! They're City fans. Or hipsters. Or both, probably. Real Mourinho fans like dreary performances with three points. Oh, I am so sorry, I meant real United fans, of course.

Also, hasn’t Fergie given hairdryer treatments many times after wins in the past? I know one of his famous ones was after Aberdeen winning the Scottish league!

I'm happy with the results but there are things that I'm unhappy about. The most annoying thing is the goals we've conceded. We've got the best defense in the country yet most of the goals we've conceded have been schoolboy level. 3 in a row now where a player lays it up for an opponent after a set piece.

Really happy with our diamond defense this season.

De Gea
Smalling - Jones
Matic

I'm worried about Valencia being out because he's been an important part of our stability in defense. With the way our attack has been recently we can't afford the defense to be shaken up by injuries. Pogba however is back now which is huge and hopefully that will lift up the rest of the team.

I think Mourinho is getting the absolute most out of the team possible. Players played crap against City, Liverpool and Chelsea but other than that were doing as well as we can. I expect us to go through the next round of all the cups and in the meantime keep pressure on City with 3 points at a time.

I do understand the moaning somewhat. Last few games have hardly been enjoyable to watch. I know we struggle to create chances against teams that sit back with their whole team because our build-up is a bit on the slow side but Bournemouth weren't sitting back and at times were outplaying us. Mourinho did make a note of that post match and commented on that the players were perhaps a bit too scared of losing again and therefor made it a priority to not concede.

The focus at times is too great on Mourinho imo and this time he isn't even drawing the focus himself. Like against City and Liverpool for example. Yes the team sat back but the tactics were sound however in both games the players played really poorly and could barely pass the ball. I get it that Smalling kicks it away but I'm not as happy when Young, Valencia or Herrera do it when they have other options.

I am just hoping that Mark Hughes is still in a job when we play them again and that we get him sacked for all the misery his Stoke side have given us. Although Mid January might be a stretch. The threads will be delirious then.

Another away win - thats something to be positive about. Obviously it would have been nice to not invite the pressure in the second half but got through it in the end.

When I see people complaining about everyone not being sheep and wanting to stifle individual views and just get on some hive mind kick I think it defeats the purpose of a message board, people are too often in need of seeing people agree with them to somehow enjoy a forum.
I totally agree.

Mourinho can win the Champions League with us and this place would still moan.

Don't deny our squad has some problems, but give the manager what he asked, which is 3 summers, before judging him. We have improved from last season and are likely to perfect our squad by next season.

No it wouldn't. Because that isn't even in the script for this season. We'll be too busy pinching ourselves to even think of moaning.

Mutv just said that after the first 18 games 41 points we have has only been bettered 3 times. City this year(52), Chelsea once(43), and Arsenal in their unbeaten year(42).

We still shit ourselves in the last 20 minutes though, which is a shame, because earlier in the season, we were racking up the goals in the last 10 minutes.
Wow.

It’s because we labour for every goal. City and Liverpool rock up and annihilate teams with their attacking play, yet even when we win 4-0 it never feels like we’ve properly put the opposition to the sword. We get a goal then grind them down in the end and maybe get a couple more.

It seems harsh to complain about winning, and I don’t usually complain about it myself, I’m just saying I understand where people are coming from. If you grew up watching Utd in the Fergie years you saw a team that would be impossible for most opponents to cope with, we were scintillating and unstoppable and scored goals for fun, but we simply do not offer that anymore most of the time. We win through grit which is admirable to be fair, but the fact is, our two biggest rivals are producing far better attacking displays in almost every game. Even if Liverpool’s defence is dodgy, you can’t help but respect how easy they find it to completely blitz teams and rack up easy goals. It’s sort of a perception rather than a logic, but you can’t help how people feel.

Some come on here with the intension of moaning from the start. They say we will lose before we kick off. They moan about the lineups. The the game starts and we aren't Manchester City. It isn't constructive moaning, it is moaning for the sake of it. Nobody thinks we don't have problems. Hopefully we will put that right. We are scoring more, we are for the most part defending better. We do need signings. As I have said before I hope we make the right signings to make us a quicker, more attacking side. The way Bale keeps cropping up has me worried. That is a signing for the wrong reason and years too late.

Sure, and there are those that are super positive no matter what, you get the extremes on every forum, but I don't get people wanting people to base their views purely on results, there's no discussion in that, it might as well be twitter as opposed to a message board which isn't designed for discussion, and if you don't like someone's views just skip them, like Howson from FTD with the condescending, excuse ridden rant he just posted on Youtube that I switched off after 60 seconds. As far as what we need goes, I dunno to be honest as Mourinho's mentality and approach I think is a big reason we have these performances, his obsession with caution is suffocating.

The negativity is actually sickening. Not a perfect performance, but we won again. That's 6 out of our last 7, but it's immediately followed up by about three/four shite threads.

Also, I'm interested to know what it was like to support United during the Liverpool era? Did we even have fans back then? And if so, how did you guys survive?

#SayNoToNegaThreads

We barely beat a team which was 19th. The people moaning have a point, beat the same side comprehensively and you won't hear so many complaints.

Negative people all the time are weird but so is the we won so nothing can be improved crowd. #saynotoforcedpositivity

City just beat them 3-2 earlier in the season. Doesn't stop people from wanking over them.

Combination of having some positive/attacking mentality to support and maybe lower expectations meaning when we won a game unexpectedly (Liverpool, Barcelona, etc) or even a trophy, it was a great feeling and worth waiting for/celebrating. There was a connection between club and fans... an unwritten agreement that the team would give 100% for the fans and the fans give 100% to the players. Watch our away fans now (superb), it used to be like that and more, even at home, even losing. Remember, United is our religion? It felt like one.

Even in Liverpool's dominant 70's (and 80s), we had some decent/attacking players too (plus some 'average' ones tbh)...

70s : Hill, Daly, Coppell as wingers, Macari, McIlroy, Pearson, Greenhoff brothers, Jordan, defenders like Albiston, McQueen and the imperious Martin Buchan.

80s : Defs like Moran, Blackmore and the simply superb McGrath, good MF (Robson , Wilkins, Muhren, Strachan, Olsen) and Whiteside, Hughes and Stapleton up front. Decent squad actually.

Did these compare to Liverpool (Hughes, Clemence, Neal, Souness, Dalglish, Rush, Kennedy, etc)? Not really... just Robson, Buchan and McGrath probably. But all of these players had one thing in common (which Fergies teams had too) ... a desire to attack and a strong mentality which said they wouldn't take losing easily. If they lost, they'd tried 100% and the other team knew they'd been in a game (we had a never say die attitude pre Fergie).

That's how I "survived" and I imagine most of the fans from then were the same. Actually, I didn't just "survive", I loved every single second of the 70s and especially the 80s.

To be honest, as much as I loved Fergies winning teams and 99, beating Liverpool in 77 or coming back v Barca/Maradona or beating a great Everton team with ten men means more to me because of HOW they did it and how unexpected it was. Watch YouTube and see what it meant to players and fans alike.... see how Whiteside celebrates or the (friendly) pitch invasions to grab Robson after Barca or Liverpool games. It was like our Dad had done it, or our brother or best mate.... we were connected.

Turning to the current side/last couple of years.... NOW I'm "surviving". Don't feel the same identity with the team/club and the style is grim, even with lots of money/decent players.

There's a thread about Lukaku not celebrating and (I might be wrong) but the idea was to criticise him. Those are the standards here, at the moment.

We've two threads about sitting back and inviting pressure, when that has been a problem for years and years.
So a long standing problem should not be pointed out anymore?

They just picked up 2 points in home games against Everton and West brom scoring 1 goal! We're 7 points ahead of them!

I can understand being a bit jealous of City this season, but not Liverpool

This should be easy to see. The only "opinions" that should be stifled are obvious trolls, but people are actually suggesting negative opinions be banned, then wondering how others survive when they face real life adversities :wenger:

As long as we are behind City people seem to be negative. For me it's best start since ages and if we continue like that I'm happy to finish runners up though as long as the board supports Jose and give him another contract, the man is a winner, but you this place sometimes after a poor performance even with a win are not satisfied unfortunately.

It's weird, we have a very active thread here that's sole purpose is to mock RAWK, and yet there are some advocating that similar totalitarian type of approach here.

There’s a lot of moaning but in my opinion most of it is justified. These are second from bottom with the second worse goal difference in the league and haven’t scored a single goal in the last 4 games and for the majority the of the second half had us pinned back on the edge of our box hoofing balls upto Lukaku again it’s fecking tiresome.

We got the 3 points and I suppose that’s the bottom line but feck me there’s not much to get excited about it was another drab performance. How anyone can watch that and be satisfied is kidding themselves.

I don't know what this old newbie system was back then, but there are a lot of "Full member" here that shouldn't have passed from "New members". And to be honest, the ambient here is so bad that I don't think much of the New Members want to stay around, especially when there's this newbie system on that it was supposed to bring quality to the main forum by filtering bad posters, but it is just failing hard, judging from the ambient here and lack of quality posts in general.

Yep, some posters, not naming names, everyone knows who they are, just add nothing but negativity, every single last post, how did these people make it out of the newbies? it's unbearable for the average reasonable poster.
Cull, cull, cull.

It's OK to have a moan, it's the insufferably happy that irritate. It's quite possible to be disappointed and critical whilst giving your full support. Jose has done a stonking job so far, but while its easy to say "we'll sign x, y and z in the summer and be force", it's harder to see improvements week on week - there's quite a lot of small-time mentality on show, like the second half today.

I don't understand people who can't understand this (clearly common) view.

Moaning is therapeutic, people enjoy moaning, it relieves stress. Being positive is boring, moaning is in our nature. Hell you’re moaning about moaning and now Im moaning about the fact that you’re moaning they’re moaning.

Now my head hurts.

One guy was only convinced by De Gea after the Arsenal game.:D

If we were grinding out results like this from City's position then nobody would care. If we were playing City's football from our current position then people would probably be a lot more positive then they currently are. The worst of both worlds will naturally see extra criticism.

Personally I think that's just one of the downsides of having someone like Mourinho as manager. If you hire a win-at-all-costs, success-first manager then not winning or being successful carries extra baggage.

I'm relatively happy with our improvement this season and certainly think we've been unlucky to face such a dominant city side but the heightened criticism doesn't surprise me in the slightest.

The people moaning have a point, beat the same side comprehensively and you won't hear so many complaints.
Except people were also moaning when we were scoring 4 goals per game.

This place is way too miserable these days imo. It's like people are 100% unable to enjoy watching this sport unless their team is winning the league and trashing their opponents. City's unreal run means anything that doesn't match it is seen as "horrible" and even those 4 goal wins are labeled as lucky and flattering.

I'm enjoying this season so far. City being so good is unfortunate but we're doing much, much better than in previous years. They are most likely winning the league this year but there is no way they're maintaining this form for long.

I prefer to be realistic about the way we're playing as opposed to living in a dream world that's bound to come crashing down.

So you're enjoying this season and not having many issues about the way we're performing but you can't see a team completely destroying opponents with a style designed to completely limit opponents chances keeping it up for long?

We saw it at Barça under Pep when they made it impossible for the opposition to actually play (and thus, games featuring them were labelled as boring) and there's a lot less doubt that City can continue to follow those instructions and play like that, especially whilst full of confidence from 16 straight wins and beating the rest of the top 6 without a single threat as opposed to the way we were playing when winning 4-0 at the start of the year which was go 1-0 up, maybe get another then struggle until the last five minutes where we ran a few in.

We were absolutely not going to continue winning 4-0 and were definitely flattering to deceive. This City side is much less doubtful.

I love the way the moaners are making out they only post valid reasons in a concise manner.
It wouldn't be a problem if they did or even if it made sense.
The Bernardo Silva / Matic / Perisic / meltdowns were a disgrace, those alone swamped the forum for an entire summer.
