ISIS in Iraq and Syria

Saw a video of a smaller airstrike directly into a part of the city, which means there must be very good coordination between the Kurds in the city and US forces in the air.
Look at this one:

It's confirmed today. The Iraqi army supported by the popular forces are now in control of the center of Jurf Al-Sakhar. They're still removing explosives (and there are thousands of them planted everywhere) and clearing the area north of Jurf Al-Sakhar (where some ISIS fighter are still hiding here and there), but they're now in control of the center of this important and strategic city. PM Haider Al-Abadi visited it today too to give a short speech to the fighting forces there.

Big blow to ISIS, who are clearly shocked about this quick and unexpected loss (they're tweeting some funny stuff on their social media).

On another front the army seems to be also making progress north of Tikrit (towards Baiji) trying to cut the supply lines between those two cities, but it's still too early to tell if that will translate into liberating any of those two cities yet. Still if it succeeds in cutting the supply lines between those two cities it will be a big success. So far they killed ~300 ISIS fighters and removed 112 planted bombs on the roads together with clearing a few towns between Tikrit and Baiji.

Worth mentioning the US airforce is helping the advancing forces in the operation north of Tikrit, but it didn't take part in the operation in Jurf Al-Sakhar.

who confirmed it?

edit - like is it 100% confirmed with no doubt at all?

The cameras of the TV channels that were inside Jurf Al-Sakhar today.

Even on ISIS' forums they (well, some) admitted it.

There is still some fighting going though on the North-Western parts which connects it with Amiriyat Al-Falluja (South-East of Falluja).

It's hard to believe this couldn't happen.

If you think about how good Google/Apple maps is these days, if they trusted you as intelligence you could easily highlight safe areas to target.

@Relevated, here are a few snapshots..

I've seen that last photo before.

The last one could be a recycled one (which is a common practice on the social media), but the first 4 are snapshots from live TV. There are a lot of pictures regarding what ISIS left behind but most of them are graphic.

Yeah, it's quite annoying really. Sometimes I want to post a video, like the results of a fight in Kobane, but there's always rats on the floor lifeless.

Three brothers who were martyred in the liberation of Zumar, against ISIS, were buried today. Must be very tough for the family.

Wonder if there are a few US forward air controllers in the area?

There are probably plain clothes special forces or Delta Force guys with the Kurds to relay specific coordinates to Centcom. Otherwise, there's no way they would shoot into the city.

lol, bantz.

Nothing more adorable than watching two murdering factions share stories about their Kurd killing ways.

Why won't the rest of the world do something about this cooperation?

Hold Turkey to account, scrutinise their ties with Isis, put global pressure on them. The Turks are getting an easy ride here.

European Union should tell them to feck off or they will never be part of the union and usa could tell them they could stick up their asses any U.S. base there since we can use Poland for example to play little wars with the Russians

I think the US still has use for the bases in Turkey and a few years from now this will mostly be forgotten and the EU would be back talking to Turkey about joining. Plus aren't Turkey now allowing some Kurdish forces to travel through Turkish territory to get to places like Kobane? They could decide to stop that.

Not saying Turkey is in the right, just saying there may not be much the EU or the US can do to make them change what they view as their best interests.

That's a given. If the choice was between protecting the their powerful NATO ally or a stateless peoples, its a no brainer for the US.

Turkey should never be allowed into the EU though, not until it apologies for its Armenian genocide and stops treating minorities like subhumans.

I'd be pretty shocked if there are not SF on the ground with the Kurds in Northern Syria operating as FO's.

There was already an announcement about a joint UK/US SF taskforce that was going to start merking ISIS. I'm sure that is well underway.

That video is from 2 years ago apparently.

does anyone else think John Cantlie converted to Islam and thats why they're not killing him? They're using him quite a lot.

Nice little propaganda video they got there with the guy.

I let out a laugh when he said they completely control it. That's why they only show the Eastern edges of the town, eh?

Haven't most of the hostages converted? And they execute them anyway?

I can imagine the logic:

"If they're lying, then we're sending them to hell, if they're sincere then we're sending them to paradise."

they only convert so they could be saved, thats why ISIS say they kill them. but with cantlie, he still has his beard and has shaped it out and other stuff. I bet he converted and thats why they're using him so much.

Peshmerga are finally on their way, 150-200 are going this time. There are plans to send 1000 more in the coming weeks.

They'll be staying there for ~3 months.

What dialect of Kurdish is spoken in Kobani, do you know ?
