....This summer? If we do sign big name players, is it because Van Gaal is the manager? Would players look at us differently now that he is manager? Would Moyes have been able to attract the same top talent given the season he had? Or would we be able to attract top talent regardless of who the manager is because we are Manchester United and our brand name is so huge around the world.

Nope.

But yeah, van Gaal and Giggs will possess some pulling power.

Not really.

I'm sure LVG and Giggs will attract more respect than Moyes but (as was frequently pointed out when Moyes was our manager) players put a lot of other considerations first. Things like money, status within the team, status of the team and lifestyle will nearly always be more important.

If big name players come here it'll mostly be because a) we offered them more money than other teams and b) we offered them a key position in the team. That would have been the case under Moyes as well.

We could sign big names even with Moyes at the helm.(Mata)

Now we have a world class manager, we're one of the biggest clubs in the world and Giggs is an assistant. What more could a world class player want?

It won't hurt. I actually suspect that Van Gaal may have that bit more clout in Europe than Sir Alex did.

At Bayern and Barca, did he have this big of a rebuilding job to do?

At Bayern - yes. The team was a mess after Klinsmann. 2008/2009 to 2009/10 was a total overhaul. Not just the players but the system. We played hoofball before... He build the foundations and Heynckes and now Guardiola build on them. What you saw in the matches against Barcelona was van Gaal attack with Heynckes defense. Especially Müller played the role van Gaal gave him - shadow peak - a forward helping out in defense, doing a lot running and coming out of deep - in the way he already did in 2010. He just got better in it as he got more experience. The funny thing is that a lot he said during his spell - especially about the compatibility from players to the system - was that what at the end was right with Heynckes and now Guardiola, too. With Heynckes Alaba was first again a midfielder... Gomez who was not LvG's kind of player went...

And Barcelona - there was La Masia but before van Gaal nobody promoted the guys into the squad. Van Gaal changed that. If you look who he gave their debuts for the first team in his both times at Barcelona - it were the driving forces for Barcelona (apart from Messi) and Spain in the coming years. Two years ago Barcelona had a match in which 11 academy players played and later on they all praised van Gaal for it. (you might find that in the net).

------------

I do not know if he really attracts the stars. Maybe the right kind of stars that know him and expect him to start a good thing (and are the ones that know discipline and work) or players from former places that he is attached to.

But for talents he is really a big magnet - especially for the German or spanish ones as he got himself a name for talent promotion.

Most definitely LVG has a massive draw for players - same as Giggs.

After the season we just had, if Moyes was tryin to push through deals this summer - players would most definitely think twice about coming in my opinion. With LVG in charge - many top players will know they're in with a chance to win trophies & become better players too in due course...

I got the impression that players didnt wanna come to United because they were afraid of Fergie's win at all costs attitude & his reputation for the hairdrier etc.. Just proves many of them just want to live in a comfort-zone & cant handle constructive-criticism!

How is Van Gaal any different though reading all these reports about him?

Anyone joining Manchester United would surely understand that victory is necessity, regardless of the manager. I don't buy that.

Also if you are a player wouldn't you want to win at all costs? At least thats how big players think. If you don't have that attitude then you are not big enough.

I agree. SAF had the ultimate pull in England, but in Europe his track record isn't amazing by any means. LVG will have the stronger pull in that regard.

Well now I'm thoroughly turned on. Say more things like this. :D

Not in my opinion, no. I think Moyes would have lured in some big players too. It's all about the money and the fact that we're the biggest club in the world.

Had he not retired Vennegoor of Hesselink would probably have joined us anyway. ;)

For those players who've been in his club squads before or performed for the Dutch NT, it could yes be an important card in our favour yes, for others i suspect that money will be the deal winner.

Im pretty sure he has bought a few top players. There was a whole thread on it before about who he bought/brought through

At clubs he has been at he often had very little say on transfers especially at Bayern and Barca. At Bayern his only signings were Braafheid and Pranjic.

My opinion is same with this guy. It won't be a big difference in term of attract players even if Moyes is here. Just a little difference for example RVP picked us due of Sir Alex Ferguson factor. Or Bale moved to Real Madrid due of the reputation of the club with so many big stars. But most of players nowdays would be attracted by money.

I dunno why people would make that much of a meal about Fergie's hairdryer scaring players away while everyone knows Van Gaal has been just that (if not an angrier version of Fergie) for over 20 years.

Money makes most of the talk nowadays, but it is not impossible that Van Gaal becomes a factor on his own because he's a very known figure who made his mark in 3 different leagues from continental Europe before signing at United.

LvG and Giggs or David Moyes and Steve Round. We've increased our chances of signing top players tenfold.

No. I am still of the opinion that we won’t sing any top players (world class bracket). I hope we don’t spend all summer chasing Kroos and Fabregas. I believe there is a chance we get one of them, but I think it will not happen. There is a question mark over United future and it’s yet to be decided if van Gaal is the answer.

How does giggs have pulling power?

Hmm, maybe your right, but the thought of working for Van Gaal with Ryan Giggs next to him or Moyes with Phil Neville does differ a little, especially with Non English players

LVG has immense pulling power compared to Moyes I reckon. I think the thought of playing under Moyes will have put a few players off joining United this summer.

How does giggs have pulling power?

He's a sexy mofo.

What a nonsense thread. We might sign big names cause we're MANCHESTER FECKING UNITED. Arguably the biggest club in the world ffs! I would bet there are literally a handful of players in the world who wouldn't sign for us if we offered the right wage.
