Is top flight and national football dead, or is it just not for me any more?

Compared to a few years ago or 20 years ago, maybe, but not 10-15 years ago. I remember quit watching football during those Ferguson vs Benitez/ Ancelotti/ Mancini era. Or Barcelona cheating their way to win the UCL. Or Chelsea/ Inter Milan playing park the bus football to win the UCL. Or WC with the Vuvuzela and one of the lowest scoring WC ever.

We just had the arguably best World Cup in the 21st century.

Euro has always been boring. Remember when Greece or Portugal won the Euro?

CL and PL quality has gone down a bit in the last few years. But we literally had one of the best title races in PL history 5 years ago (Liverpool/ Man City 2018/2019). That CL was also one of the best. Spurs vs Mancity second leg. Spurs vs Ajax second leg. Liverpool vs Barcelona second leg.

Watching Man United is always a chore, but its because you guys messed up, not because football is dead.

Now if you compare football now vs football during the late 90s era, I agree the late 90s era was better. Football peaked during 1996-2003 imo.

Greece 2004 was amazing. Yes, it was an extremely defensive run, but when an underdog does it there is always the tension of "can they really pull it off?" which makes it interesting.

I still feel this sentiment is mostly prevalent on the caf because United are crap now.

International football is fine. It's more popular and profitable than ever. Perhaps we don't see the 9-4 scorelines anymore, but that's because the game has evolved and defenders can actually organise themselves now.

Take that Georgia win over Portugal for instance. Brilliant stuff.

I agree with op largely and got to try things to stop the guardiola tactic and gegenpressing super club dominated bore fest most games have become. Kids are turning off and online games stuff is winning.

Next up will be TV money reducing because the entertainment has been diluted with bloated tournaments and the modern style. A football financial crisis isn't far off very possibly. Just look at Inter, Barca, Everton and others.

Wenger offside change should be trialled and also just having offside in each 18 yard area. No idea if it'll make better or just all teams sit deep. I think FIFA, IFAB, UEFA etc will have to try something.
