It was a bit like The Beach based on Alex Garland's book. Watered down and popcornish, some good practical effects, though.

It was a fantastic bit of cinema. Hugely successful and deserves its accolades.
Ah the ending scene with rose killing DiCaprio's character.

Really predictable ending I thought.

It’s a brilliant film. Watch the James Cameron documentary (might be called the final word?)...was impressive how much effort they put into trying to make the titanic as accurate as possible.
Cameron is the Alex Ferguson of film directors. Whatever you're view of his films the guy brings in both the big bucks and the awards.
No other director can do what Cameron does, he writes and directs the biggest films in Western cinema. Massively underrated director.

No he's not. He made Avatar FFS. But of course Fergie replaced Ronaldo & Tevez with Michael Owen and Valencia so maybe the comparison isn't so far off.
He made Aliens and Terminator 2 which are 2 of the 3 greatest actions films ever made..::

For real I did actually cry in the cinema at the end of the 1998 remake of Godzilla. Genuinely really gutted the dinosaur was killed in the end.
Visually it was amazing for the time, the story is hit and miss, first watch it's palatable, DiCaprio would have been allowed on my door at the end, even fitting horizontally we could have made it!
Great fan theory is that Jack doesn't exist at all and Rose was just suffering a psychotic episode. Fight club esque. I'd have liked if that was true and more obvious.

I haven't heard any criticism of those.

Shouldn't that be overrated as his films are massively praised make huge amounts of money yet are very average at best?
It’s fairly average and plays to American stereotypes - cruel Brits in charge, salt of the earth Irish downstairs, not mentioning that it was mainly due to US immigration procedures that the steerage class passengers were kept locked away (the posh folk could disembark in Manhattan while the plebs had to go through Ellis Island quarantine).

I went to the cinema as a 15 year old with my school friends (about 5/6 of us) to watch it. I battled and battled to hold back the tears and i eventually did win out of us lot, but the bitch got me when she lobbed that jewel back into the sea and then she died and saw him again ffs.

The Beach book is really enjoyable, in my opinion. The film managed to miss the most important story. Might have to give it another read.
I suspect a lot of Nolan's big hits like The Dark Knight and Inception will not age well.
Exactly. Book simply made sense. Movie had so many changes it's hardly even recognize the main character in some cases.
How rude of you. But seeing as you asked for it: I dislike Titanic less than I do Avatar, Aliens. Winslet is always watchable, even in a bad film, and at least Titanic was trying to be a cinematic experience. Which is more than you can say for the chum churned out by the modern Marvel death machine.
