Is this the worst transfer window since they were introduced?

It feels the weirdest...

The most glaring weaknesses and the most tantalisingly close we've been to having a top tier squad again... incomprehensibly gone to total waste.

Nothing will ever top failing to sign anyone and then paying more than the buyout clause for Fellaini on deadline day of the most important single transfer window for the club in the last 25 years.

Definitely Woodward's finest hour, that one.

For us yes.
Some like Fulham and west ham have done alright.
Loads of shit about prices and the World Cup and early window shut etc but that’s bollocks.
Biggest club in the world don’t seem to have a scouting system and needs a DoF because Woodward is focused on sponsorships.

There's no way this is worse than selling Ronaldo and getting a crocked Owen and Oberton as replacements. I think people are forgetting we've bought us a very good central midfielder and huge right back potential this summer spending £70m in the process.

Are we frustrated, sure but it really isn't all that bad.

Finally, some sense. It's been a bit disappointing, but by no means worthy of the epic meltdown on here. The summers of 2009 and 2013 were dark times for the Caf.

you're clearly just an oppo fan looking to provoke people going by your recent posts.
Not at all. Just not blinkered.

For a top player, who is not a lifelong fan of the club, I don't see the appeal of joining a team who play tumescent football under a bellend manager. In Manchester.

What’s with the in Manchester part?

This window is genuinely depressing. I can't believe there weren't players available who would have improved our team at LB, RB, CB, RW and even added depth at ST. So much was needed from the window. Even some sales would have been comforting because that just guarantees incomings to replace them.
Not at all looking forward to the season. The main reason why we have struggled so horribly to control games (be it any team) has been our inability to convert off the ball pressure into possesion. Every time any opposition gets hold of the ball in our half we have pressed but ultimately pushed back into our own half. A CB was needed for that purpose primarily. To help win the ball back not just make last ditch clearances and silly tackles. That's what I convinced myself the club believed would turn us this season. Wasn't complaining when we didn't sign a senior RB, or a LB or any damn RW. Even Shaqiri would have helped, only because u was convinced that we would have a better backline led by a calm head who would help dominate games and ultimately help United sustain pressure in the opposition half.
They had the whole summer to deliver any one of the problem positions. And we're back to square one with Jones and Smalling and Rojo and endless brainfarts and clusterfecks.
Really would like to scream into Woodward's face.
According to Liverpool sources the Shaqiri, Fabinho and VVD deals were done 2 months in advance. Keita was obviously done 5 months in advance. I don't understand why United must wait until the window gets going to be start negotiations. Least they can do now is keep going and get something done for the January window. Zero positivity for me as the team stands.

Moyes window was worse - we were linked with so many good players and to end up with Fellaini felt like such a slap across the face.

This summer isn't far off, but we weren't linked with so many players that I felt like would improve us, so my expectations weren't as high.

Well it's not as nice as Madrid. Or Paris. Or Rome.

It's sort of like Bristol but up north and rainy.

Yeah very true. I suppose that’s stopped top players joining us in the past. Or joining Man City. Or playing in Liverpool which is 20 Miles away. Pogba only joined us because he couldn’t get a move to Roma or Lazio...... someone’s already got through his daily bag of brown by lunchtime.

The summer of Fellaini.

I do agree that the Fellaini transfer window was bad. But bear in mind we were reigning champs and everything "seemed" okay.
The squad was aging, though the squad was quite capable of doing great things. They had just won the league by a large margin.

The problem with us today is that our squad has not won the title in 5 years, so we are in a position, where the fans are desperate to the win the league title. IMO, this makes this transfer window the worst in the last 5 years.
We know that this squad is not capable of winning the league. The fans know this. The manager definitely knows this. The board though, seem content with 4th place becuase there doesn't seem to be any financial benefit to winning the league - only less profit.

What worries me is that our window shuts three weeks before the Spanish league, so the uncertainty surrounding Pogba will hang around for a few weeks yet. It is not good for the club going into the new season with that continued uncertainty over key players.

The reason for bringing forward the shutting of the transfer window is pointless if the other leagues do not do the same. Because the reason for doing that, vanishes.

meh the window is going to get a lot worse I think as any misplaced pass... any shrug of the shoulder and straight away it will be pogba is unhappy or martial is going on strike and PSG or barca or real etc etc is buying them - I suspect its going to be a pretty negative atmosphere around us (potentially not helped by jose having a meltdown) ... not only is I can see chelsea coming under preassure with kante and hazard as well but yeah I think the window will drag on and get worse

Signing dalot and fred is not bad at all but as I say I think we have to get ready for some player and manager tantrums till the end of August

The worst window was probably the first one under Moyes where we chased Bale and Fabregas even though pretty much everyone except Moyes knew that we couldn't get them. There was the situation with false representatives heading over to Bilbao to try and sign Herrera and the last minute panic buy of Fellaini. None of this was helped by downright strange and panicky interviews done by Moyes throughout the summer.

This one isn't great but it's passable in comparison due to the early signings of Fred and Dalot. Those two deals could turn out to be good ones for all we know. Mourinho's interviews have been almost as bad as the ones that Moyes did though. He's put too much pressure on the club in my view.

Liverpool's scouting and transfer dealings became quite efficient (barring stupid leaks about VvD and Fekir) under Michael Edwards. Man's a wizard for them, tbh.

Depends on who you support. Wolves, Everton and Liverpool have spent like crack heads winning a lottery. Spurs have barely moved a penny. Majority of PL clubs haven't bought much.

Doesn't always mean anything. Everton spent a fortune last season, & were predicted to do will. They started poorly, just above the relegation area, until the manager was sacked & big Sam cam in to calm the ship. I don't think Silva's that great anyway.

Just read that 40% of all Premier League £'s spent on goalkeepers has been spent in the last 12 months.

Nuts

We could still sell players which could tip the balance...

This window has been a disgrace. The owners have no intention of competing with City even with the huge financial resources available. Time to go.

Not even close.

2009 was an abomination that triggered the decline of our playing squad. We couldn't afford a bean. 2013 was also a car crash. We needed players and dithered all summer long, back when transfer fees weren't as absurd as they are right now.

This one isn't too bad. Two more players would have been great, but we've bought a right back, central midfielder and welcomed back Pereira (who looks every bit a multi million quid midfielder). We've also got a very strong squad as it is. The reason people are so depressed is because the man in charge has made them feel that way.

Carrick in 2006. Three years without challenging and then signing only Carrick.

The biggest improvement comes from within the club.

You, Jose or the board?

The Glazers/board. We are just Arsenal 2.0, American owners who don't give a feck about the team/fans or winning as long as money comes rolling in. Nothing will change unless the fans get together and force it, Fergie isn't around to back those cnuts anymore.

Obviously we wanted 1/2 more, a LB and a RW could have really made a big difference to this team IMO

Saying that though Fred looks a great little player, if Dalot is as good as we hope then that'll be decent.

We had a top team who was being dragged down by an old and crazy Keane. Carrick was the missing link that restarted the engines. This time its different. We've got 33 year old failed wingers as fbs FFS

Yes, Man Utd should appoint Director of Football to handle the transfer. Ed Woodward doing his job - Find the sponsor

We finished 2nd last season, so the Glazers and Woodward probably feel that we can finish top 4 with what we have now, and as long as we're in the CL, they're satisfied. They probably believe that spending a lot more at this point to possibly compete for 1st or 2nd place finish instead of 3rd or 4th place is too risky of a move from financial standpoint. It's obviously not what the fans/manager want but they're the ones making the decisions.

Still think we'll likely end up with a CB signing last minute. In a way, they will keep the fans happier by delaying the last big signing until the end because had we signed a CB earlier and didn't add anybody else to the squad when there are other glaring weaknesses in the team, I imagine the fans would very unhappy.

The worst since the Glazers arrived. Thanks to the utter incompetence of Woodward
put Liverpool aside for a second.

- Chelsea have simply replaced a world class keeper for someone who is a potential WC and double the price. Bought a central midfielder (as did we) and loaned someone from Real
- Spurs - feck all
- Arsenal - a keeper to replace chech and another defender
- City - Mahrez

I think a lot of fans will be disappointed by the players coming in this summer and perhaps clubs have decided to wait until the ridiculous fees start to come down
