Is this the worst it's been?

It just feels like we're drifting our way through another season. Wasting time till the summer where we'll be told and want to believe its going to be a big window and things are looking up. It's just hard to trust anything with this club these days.

One thing you can trust is we’ll spend a feck ton of money. Likely on the wrong players but I live in hope.

When you read the reports today about the squad being split further, you have to say that the new manager is going to have one hell of a tough job on his hands.

This is going to be a long term project for sure, to start a complete rebuild of this squad.

I don't think there are many teams in a worse position than we are (maybe Barca) and not qualifying for champs league is going to see us spending stupid money on bad players again out of desperation.

I really hope someone buys out the glazers ASAP.

Trying to blame Ralf for Ronaldo’s poor finishing is badly missing the point. We’ve scored 12 league goals under the new manager. Of which our undroppable number 9 has scored 2. A penalty and a tap in after McT hit the bar.

To claim that a player as experienced as Ronaldo would have scored more goals if Ralf was better at teaching him how to finish is one of the worst takes I’ve ever seen on here.
You keep concentrating on Ronaldo. Finishing has been off throughout the squad, period. Never said Ralf was teaching him to finish, I said that they need more reps and training

The defense of Ralf has become a bit irrational. Let’s judge him on results and performances.

complaining about arguably the greatest goalscorer of all time is a much worse take. Let’s bump this thread after Ronnie hits a purple patch. Look, at some point he’s going to decline, but it’s a few years away fella.

You both sound like five year olds  ‘my dads bigger than your dad.’
I mean… it was a conversation about getting old and level played… feel free to take the piss, but just answering a question. Alluding to experience to make a point is wrong now?

 Sorry it just ended up sounding funny. It was more the other posters comment ‘I bet I’ve played at a higher level than you’

I'd say it's the furthest we've been away from City and Liverpool for a long time. There's not a single department I'd swap our our options for theirs, and they'll only strengthen further in the summer.

Barca will win many more trophies before we win another one. That club, despite their appalling control of finances, is focused on being successful on the pitch. Our main focus is commercial success. If we find a manager who is able to finish 4th every season that'll be good enough for the Glazer's.

I read this sort of thing a lot on here. "Ronaldo wouldn't agree to this"

Since when did a player disobeying a manager become acceptable?
Since the time that footballers aren't 4 year old toddlers who need to obey every word their parents(managers) say.

The manager can always decide not to pick him, but the player can always insist on wanting to play more(see Donny as an example).

My point was that mentally Ronaldo still thinks that he is that 23 year old stud that can play 3 games a week for 90 minutes, but even then that was not the case.

What I was saying was, that if Ronaldo is to give 110% when he plays, he need to realize that he can't play more than 90 minutes once every 10 days. His body can't keep up. Sadly though, his ego is too big to accept that.

Not true. The Glazers backed Ole hard this summer. If they were about penny pinching, they would have done a Mourinho and told to work with what he has.

If the only thing the Glazers cared about was money, we wouldn't have spent more than 99% of the league.

The reason we are in this mess is that the Glazers hope that every new manager is going to turn out as the new SAF, hence why they give them too much power even over finances. That, and the fact that some of them were unqualified to manage United(Moyes and Ole) while others where past it(Mou and LvG). Combine that that every single one has a different way of playing and wants to bring "their players" to assert their style, and you have a recipe for disaster.

It certainly is all quite painful! I'm just hoping that we follow through with moving Rangnick into a consulting role where he can basically tell the new manager that X players need to leave and shouldn't be considered part of the squad. It's the first step to trying to move fwd properly and build for the future with a vision in mind. I don't think Rangnick's been perfect or anything but I also don't think he's going to make a terrible assessment of the players and it has to be better than a new manager coming in and wanting to start by giving everyone a clean slate. We know there are clearly divisions in the squad and we need to iron those out first.

Hopefully by also having Rangnick in place amongst others we're building some real football knowledge in senior roles and we can start to make better decisions in terms of recruitment/strategy. This does feel different to what we've done before and hopefully it's not just lip service. The one thing we know is that at least with regards to transfers and wages the Glazers have permitted spend over the last few years that rivals pretty much everyone else out there and in reality it's been wasted. They're complicit in not having the right internal organisation/people but hopefully they're trying to do things different and we'll spend the money more wisely.

Ideally we can secure CL football this season and given it's all we really have left then you'd have to hope there's focus. Whilst losing to Middlesbrough should not have happened there's positives to take in the attacking play that should have resulted in us being comfortable. Hopefully our attacking players can find their confidence and we can make sure that we put ourselves in the best position to go into next season we can albeit this will likely be another disappointing season.

Get out of here with your perfect sense answers. who do you think you are.

Business owners that want to be as successful as possible don't allow incompetent people to manage their business. Between allowing Woodward to continuously repeat mistakes and overseeing a serious of poor managerial appointments, they clearly don't care that much about United being successful beyond qualifying for the CL. If they did they'd have hired someone qualified to improve our fortunes on the pitch.

The Glazers have always spent, I have no issue with them in that sense. I will say that they are very poor leaders. With SAF, he was the undisputed leader of the club. After he left, there has been a power vacuum and by all accounts Woodward was the yes man to Avram/Joel.

That loss to Liverpool and when this thread was created was a far worse time.

We’ll be stronger next season I think, Ralf will be upstairs so we have some continuity and we’ll have Ten Haag in place, we’ll sign Declan Rice, Pogba/Ronaldo/Cavani will all be gone. We’ll see more of the likes of Hannibal and possibly Laird and Garner. Rashford will return to form and we’ll see the Dortmund version of Sancho.

I remain optimistic, just need to get this season done and hopefully get that 4th spot!

Not to crap on your post, as I like your optimism but...

- Why would Declan Rice want to come here, when 1 he will no doubt get his dream move to Chelsea if he holds out one more Summer, and 2 he looks around at our club and seems a downward trajectory with the squad arguably getting weaker in Summer with players that are leaving?

- Like Rice, what is going to entice Ten Haag to join us, when if he holds out longer he may get even better offers?

- You just KNOW it's going to be Poch who we hire, because this is Manchester United.

- Laird, Hannibal and Garner won't improve our starting 11 next season, and certainly not to the level of a team that is meant to be a Top4 contender.

- Losing Pogba, Lingard, Ronaldo, Cavani and Greenwood is going to require significant investment, which we will not get from the Glazers.

- Sancho may not do a 'Havertz' and turn out to be very good next season. In fact, even though he was good the other night, I think he is a very high concern and doesn't look like he has 'the fight' in him to become one of the best in the World and drive this team forward.

- This team requires upgrades in the following positions: CM x2, LB, RB, and 2 strikers. That is ALOT.

No worries, happy to debate...

1. It might not be Rice that we sign but someone of that ilk, in any case i do think Rice would sign for us personally. We're one of the biggest clubs in the world, the same way Barcelona wont struggle to attract talent

2. As above

3. You might be right, personally i cant see Poch leaving PSG, and even if it was, it would be an upgrade on what we have had previously.

4. I dont think any individual will improve our starting lineup, the best teams start with a willingness to work hard, i think a decent coach and bringing through some of the younger players will help in that respect. I've enjoyed seeing the positivity from Elanga for example, and i think he's had a positive impact on our starting lineup (ignoring the penalty miss :nervous: )

5. Losing Greenwood is a huge blow, i agree, but the others just arent in my view. I'd take a player who runs himself into the ground and gives everything for the team over those players that stroll around all game, granted you lose a bit of quality but we need to get the basics back

6. Sancho has started poorly thats inarguable, but in the same way he might not turn out to be very good, he may rediscover his Dortmund form and be an excellent player, he's only 21 after all.

7. I agree on the striker point, which is going back to Greenwood, it really has caused us a problem. However, I disagree on the LB one, Shaw was outstanding last year, he's had a poor season and i wouldnt write him off yet. Also dont agree on 2xCM, we certainly need 1 of high quality but Rice (or equivalent) would elevate those around him in my view, as he does at West Ham. So for me thats 2 new players, big investments but not unreasonable.

Just my opinion of course, could and may well be totally wide of the mark, time will tell!

I think this is it. This is truly the worst.
Liverpool at home this season was far worse but this second half can’t be that far off. It has been so bad I can’t express my disappointment.

So many bad performances, lack of belief and effort. Club needs to start again but with its current structure I don’t trust it would end any differently

Don't think losing Pogba is as bad, because he is never integrated as much as we like him to be. Losing Ronaldo is a silver lining, he has simply passed it, and doesn't suit our style any more. Losing Cavani would be a miss, but he is never expected to last 3 season. Let's see how Greenwood develop.

Personally, losing Rashford (this season) has been a bigger loss, plus Maguire, Fred, McTom. AWB has been nothing but disgrace this season.

This 2nd half has been a horror show.

Eh?

Nothing will top Moyes.

Ole's last games against Liverpool and City come close. A guy so hopelessly out of his depth.

Today we played very well at the beginning. There are some positives to take from today.

Yes. The players just aren’t good enough…… Half a billion is needed in the summer

Nothing will beat Liverpool and City with Ole. They actually both stopped playing at one point in the game. It was absolute shambles, this was bad, but not close to that.

Weird bump. We're losing against the best side in the world and did okay in the first half. We've been playing pretty well recently, just unlucky and wasteful in front of goal. It's dire but has been plenty worse.

I think this is the worst, particularly that every single player and coaching staff member looks like a complete dross.

The top-four is gone, the Champions League will be gone soon, all domestic Cups are gone. And this sorry state won’t change with just one good manager or a few good players in the summer.

This is probably the most deflated state of the Club in a long, long time.
