Is Sterling the best english player at the moment?

Wasn't there a game where he missed about 3 one-on-ones against us? It was amazing.
The game at City's stadium in 2017/18. When they could have won the title at home. Sterling missed sitters left and right, then United bounced back in the 2nd half.

That's why I said only Liverpool. As in, that's the only side he wouldn't get into. :wenger:
I think there any many top teams he wouldn't get into an upgrade. He benefits a great deal from Peps tactics. Wouldn't generate these numbers elsewhere.

Shocking miss clearly. Still he’s a fantastic player, and would get in every team in the world.
Yeah sure, Sterling goes straight into Bayern’s first XI, no doubt  Seriously he dosen’t even goes into PSG first XI. Such a ridicilous post.

”Oh, he’s the best in the league”, ”World class performances in the biggest games” and ”Walking into any first XI” is nonsense.

He won some domestic cups here and there but will never make it on the biggest stage (CL, EC, WC). Why?
He’s hiding in the biggest games. Bottler. Gerrard genes.

You can say that when he have accomplished what Muller has, seriously..

Is he even in Englands first XI?
Rashford - Kane - Sancho or
Sterling - Kane - Sancho is same same.

You can't f%ck up like that and be known as great.

In all sport the best are defined by moments under pressure and composure. Obviously he cannot handle it.

He's still a top player for England, but it's tough to say he's the best English player. I'll give the benefit of the doubt to Kane for now, but he'll need to show more of his class in the coming season and justify his poor form was temporary. TAA is a clear favorite, Vardy, Sancho, Sterling, Maguire, and Henderson(?). That's not exactly a crazy list to choose from and anoint a top player of England.

He was hardly hiding today. Was very creative, see the goal and that chance he sorted for Jesus. I admit that he misses sitters constantly for some reason. He scored against Madrid last week though and has plenty of Champions League goals and goals against the PL top 6.

Don't worry Razza. Happens to the best of them!

That’s a ‘harder’ finish but it’s splitting hairs. It’s always easier to hit the ball if you’re travelling in the same direction. Sterling is moving towards goal whilst Ronaldo is just standing there. In my opinion it’s easier to miss for Ronaldo as he’s more likely to be flat-footed.

Pitch is much worse in Ronaldos miss

That wasn't the point which is that anyone can have a brainfart moment.

Are you guys really making excuses for Ronaldo's miss? It was terrible, and so was Sterling's tonight. Sterling's miss proved more costly though.

Of course Sterling is in England’s first 11.

Why are we suddenly comparing him to Müller? A player by the way that this forum thought was utter trash 2 years ago.

You have got far too excited, and reactionary over one miss.

Calm down and reassess.

Sterling is a world class talent, its not the first time he's looked a totally different player in pressure games though. I think he frequently suffers in big games for England.

I was pretty drunk when i got home from a party yesterday and saw the result City - Lyon. Maybe I overreacted a bit.

He’s not the best player in the league though. Never was, never will be.

If you look at the final close-up replay of that miss (not included in the video) you can see the ball bobbling on a horrible pitch. Still a terrible miss but Sterling’s was probably worse given the circumstances.

I don't even think it's a problem with his finishing. It's a problem with his composure in those moments that are easier to score than miss that he struggles with. It makes his brain overthink itself wildly and he messes up. I think it's a mental thing as much as it is a football thing and I think he might be helped by seeing someone that can help him adjust his mindframe in those types of moments.

Not a chance he is or ever has been the best English player around.

Sterling is a good player that has done well for himself but he does have moments like last night's miss in him. I don't think he'll ever fully iron it out of his game.

Agree. He did well to improve himself at City, with Pep’s help no doubt.

Good player but will always have that error in his game like you say. He’s just wired that way.

Point is media (and fans) will only remember a few "defining" (?) moments in any big player's career, and that miss, at such important moment for him, City and Guardiola, clearly will not do Sterling any favour in the short and long term. Add to this the vitriolic relationship with tabloids and here it goes again...

Actually I don't think he would.

He walks in and out of any team in the world as he pleases. That said he really needs to improve his finishing.

Which english player is better than him? Certainly not Kane who is a level below and has been built up by the media to no end even now when he is clearly declining. Even with his faults Sterling at this moment is the best England has to offer if I was him dealing with the brit media I would have retired from that national team already though. Let them get by as they can.

Misses like that happen to every player but he could have chosen his timing a little better

We didn't need this. Sterling had already been skying opportunities like that for England for years, including in the same world cup. That's one of many reasons I've always hated that "should've squared it" line.
