For me yes and it’s not even remotely close. The only argument against is that it didn’t last long.
 
These three were just electric.

What could have been if one of them wasn't managed by a mercenary and another one wasn't dreaming of Madrid.
 
Could have been but Tevez and Ronaldo gave their best years to our domestic and European rivals so feck them.

Henry and Bergkamp for me as the best front 2, although it didn't last long before Henry moved wide.

Fair enough, I should have said best front two partnership. I don’t think any front two in PL history betters the Yorke-Cole partnership.

Yeah I meant it as a partnership, I'd say that Arsenal side was weaker than United, but competed due to those 2 being insane talents that worked well together.

Although the combinations between Yorke and Cole elevated each player, probably more than we've seen before or after.
 
Easily the best. That front 3 in nowadays money is like 500 million pound frontline
 
In terms of stats probably not but due to tactical flexibility 100% they are. They could thrive in a defensive system, Counter attack, possession and they could press (not Ronaldo though).

2006-2009 United could defend any team but also thrash weak sides easily.

If Saha stayed fit then we are talking the best 4 attackers since the 1999 team.

Saha is a huge what if. He was so good fergie was ok to ship out one of the greatest scorers in PL history in Ruud.

Yes, Ruud in the 2001-2002 season, also Wayne Rooney in 2009-2010 played quite often on his own up top, he was probably the third best player in the world that season, certainly the third best attacker.

Van Persie mostly played with Rooney as second striker/ number 10, but I suppose that counts?

Henry and Bergkamp worked well together, and they seemed like a seamless fit stylistically, but when I talk about goat partnership I really mean partnerships that raised the level of each other just by having a particularly close bond and understanding. JFH and Gudjohnsen was of the Yorke-Cole ilk too.

Lone striker is clearly Ruud when they were playing Scholes in the hole and then trying the likes of Giggs and Rooney in various roles. Ruud was easily the best out-and-out striker in the league for 2-3 seasons when he was often leading the line on his lonesome.

I suppose you could put Holland foden silva in the second place.
 
No love for Falcao, Rooney, Di Maria and Van Persie

Granted the winger was usually Duff and Cole was more midfielder in a 433?

Good shouts, again Firminho and Duff are the weak links, but did their necessary bits to make it work.
 
No. This front three didn't function together all that well – Rooney and Tevez were frequently occupying the same spaces and both would drop off leaving no-one up front. I remember these boards after the 0-0 at Villa Park in 2008 and how frustrated everyone was with how our attacking play had regressed, that Rooney and Tevez were too similar, and we couldn't create chances. Rooney had one of his worst seasons in 2007/08 and Tevez barely scored in the league in 2008/09. I think he even lost his place in the team towards the end, and most were indifferent to him leaving.

This trio seems to be rated based on what could have been rather than what actually was. They had their moments, but we were carried by Ronaldo and Ferdinand back then.
 
All three of them together were not half the footballer that King Eric was.

Because, they may have been an amazing trio, but any mention of the best premiership attack without mention of Cantona feels just wrong

No. The 2008 versions of these players wasn’t even close to their individual peaks though I’d say Ronaldo came closest.

It was still a fantastic trio that season. Ronaldo did the heavy lifting with goals, Rooney did everything but score (he still scored a decent amount) and Tevez was good but you knew he had more to offer but was really clutch that year.

It could have been the best by a mile if they stayed together for 4 seasons and weren’t interrupted by Berbatov. Imagine what they would have been like from 2010-2012.

The best unfortunately is Mane Salah Firmino. All peaked together and in their best year as a collective had the goals more evenly spread out.
 
Henry - Bergkamp, Cole - Yorke, Torres - Gerrard. Where do we rank them?
 
Probably but unfortunately Tevez at the time was all effort and little result. Leading the line was also new to him. He showed his true quality later at City as a main striker
 
Not a traditional strike partnership, but the almost telepathic understanding between Son and Kane deserves a mention too.
 
We could have had a lethal academy front 3 in Garnacho - Rashford - Greenwood if their heads were in the right place…
 
I don't believe Tevez was all that good for us compared to many other strikers we have had over the years.

Don't get me wrong, he was some player in his day but we didn't get the best of him - didn't he score five league goals in his second, and last, season with us?

My view of him might be biased by how untrustworthy and odious he turned out to be, reneging on his agreement with us to sign a contract at the end of his loan spell when we met the agreed terms, because you know who was offering more, and then the RIP Fergie banner - which let's face was the action of a cretinous scumbag.

This thread is about a front three as a collective unit, though. Tevez may not have been that good by himself, but he worked well in that front three (much more so than Berbatov, for example).

Fair point. I do wonder if signing Berbatov was seen by Tevez as a vote of no confidence.

I do also wonder if Berbatov was actually bought because Fergie knew Ronaldo was leaving and he had planned a Berba, Rooney and Tevez front three going forward.

Rashford can't play striker.
Come to think of it, unless Greenwood could play striker, Garnacho's progress would've been blunted or we'd have one of these sitting rather unhappily on the bench.
