Is Mbappe the best french player ever?

2009-2018 period? The Bundesliga has a case for 12-13 and the PL for 17-18. Rest of the time la Liga was so far above the rest it was a joke. Kinda like the PL is today

La Liga never had the firepower that PL has today. Nowhere near it. Spain was always 2 super clubs and 2-3 very good clubs with EL fetish. Shitty TV deals made sure the teams between 8-20 were basically cannon fodder for Messi and Ronaldo. A disparity similar to what PSG has nowadays in France.

Mbappe only really has the world cup to his name.. no one's going to include the French league titles.

Winning the league for Monaco against 3 times richer Paris (parallel to reaching CL semi-final) gotta be worth something.

Didn't stop spanish teams other than Madrid and Barcelona to dunk on the rest of europe anyways

Not yet, but he can be. He's ready made for Real Madrid in my opinion, and I think that's where he'll propel himself to being one of the true greats.

He has all the attributes, but it seems like he's been sucked in by the toxic culture at PSG. I think Perez said as much in a way during the summer when he signed his new contract.

Hence the 2-3 very good clubs I mentioned. But I'm not buying that bottom half of La Liga (as in half of your league) isn't dross and is any better than their counterparts in ITA/GER/FRA. Regardless of how many Europa League titles Sevilla decides to win in the next decade.

How does his World Cup showings compare to someone like Thomas Müller at a similar age, who had 2 terrific WCs campaigns, a Golden Boot, Silver Boot, Silver Ball and a WC to boot too?

Still premature as this WC isn't over yet and a lot can still happen. Two great players with not much between the both of them, in my opinion.

Did he win the World Cup alone? 2018 France could field two lineups better than all Argentinian lineups during Messi’s era.

It isn't now. But it used to be

I hadn’t seen much of him till now - in their right mind watches PSG? - but he looks incredible for France.

Too much admiration for Zidane and our Eric to put Mbappe on such a pedestal, yet from what I’ve seen he clearly has the potential to reach greatness.

Player of the tournament contender, alongside Bruno, Martinez, Rashford, Varane etc.

Yeah he's already eclipsed Henry for me in terms of his international legacy for France.
And if he wins a UCL he'll eclipse Henry overall as well.

I hope some realize that there were French players before Mbappe. Players who were classed as best or among the best in the world. Mbappe has not reached that level yet.

Might be a bit of an obvious thing to say — but looking at the pass and heat maps of the ball in their game and you can see that Mbappe is actually a key player in the buildup as well as finishing matches off. That’s what separates him from the other good wide forwards out there like Leao, Rashford, Foden etc… I think some still see him as a player who just breaks lines and scores goals.

Worth more than winning the league with City or even Real Madrid.

Zidane? Platini? Who are they? No one. Just because they proved themseleves over mutliple tournaments, played in the toughtest leagues in the world and won multiple balon d'ors. None of that matters. Mbappe with one leg and blindfolded is better that them both.

And Just Fontaine? Whose record at the WC Finals still stand. I mean these are just nobodies. Mbappe with no legs is better than them.

Heh, bunch of posters on the match day thread were writing him off.

Mentality monster, best player ever, GOAT etc....a player who was invisible last several games and most of the final. Bloody hell Caf, you are outdoing yourself.

If they win this he’s on course to be GOAT. That’s how perfect his young career has been so far.

Joint most goals in World Cup finals with the likes of Hurst, Pele and Zidane. Decent.

This is the kind of stuff truly elite players do. France may still lose it but Mbappe did what he had to do.

Made for Real Madrid.
Don’t think he’ll ever join Madrid. He’ll be a symbol of England being a super league whoever he joins. He’ll have at least two oil money clubs after him and a third if we are taken over. Could be seeing 2m a week or something stupid if there’s a bidding war and why wouldn’t there be?

Yeah, it doesn't mean that he'd join them (although I still think that it's likely). This was just such a Madrid thing to do.

Surely he can’t score a hat trick and claim his second World Cup title at age 23? That should be illegal. Would certainly be ridiculous.
