Is Liverpool 4-0 Barcelona the biggest meltdown in Football History?

Yes. Liverpool were without two of their best players, their best left-back and still did a comeback. Absolutely pathetic from every single Barca player, the only one that probably deserves a good rating was Messi.

Say what you like about Suarez but he played like he wanted to win that game. If only he didn’t revert to type and cheat throughout, he would have scored.

Coutinho? fecking coward and an overrated piece of shit. Worse than anything in a Utd shirt and that’s saying something

Meltdown is when it wasn’t expected, and yesterday was not the case. Firstly, It was Anfield which is already a tough place. Then LFC scored early, , so the signs of comeback were there...

It has to be up there along with their loss against Roma and let's not forget how they bottled it against Di Matteo's Chelsea.

Also to include a different team there's also River Plate bottling it against 9 men.

Deportivo -Milan for sure. The difference in the players was staggering. When you have top sides then they can click and produce great results. But Deportivo were minows and to get up psychologically was unbelievable.
Given the fact pool were playing Origi and Shaquiri at top, this was comparable to that

Remarkable from Liverpool.

even under Fergie, we didn't outplay a top team in Europe like that once.

Very well said.
I don’t care who you support. That was a truly outstanding performance from a very good Liverpool side.
Remember who was not playing, two of their best players.
A very big factor last night was undoubtedly the fantastic atmosphere from the Liverpool crowd. They were very much the 12th man. They seem to have a very good connection between the team and the supporters.
Brilliant performance and a brilliant result.

We went to Juve and won 3-2 and 3-0 a few seasons later. The 3-2 was when they were the team in Europe.

Barca turned up thinking the job was done. Liverpool turned up to do a job. Not entirely unlike the second half in Istanbul, and you could argue that it's possible for a team to be too far ahead and just switch off (as they did for the fourth goal tonight) BUT having spent about 40 years detesting Liverpool as a club and as a city, I have to take my hat off and say that was an extremely impressive performance tonight.
Very unlike that. In Istanbul liverpool crossed the half 4 times in the span of 10 minutes in the second half, somehow scored 3 goals, then went right back to hanging on for dear life the rest of the way. Dudek was their best player by far that night. That game was the single biggest fluke in history. Milan had a 10 minutes meltdown. Barcelona had a 90 minutes one

And Liverpool were good for this one.

No. The biggest meltdown must have Higuain involved.

PSG against us was worse because we aren't a good team and they were at home.

Still PSG 1-6 imo. They collapsed & conceded three goals, got the goal that should have sealed their progress, then managed to collapse again and concede another 3 goals. Double collapse.

Yeah. And this Barca's different. They get outplayed in these away ties. Our better teams would have tonked them.
I really doubt it. Our best ever team struggled against a relatively poor Barca side in 08.

we've just never done what Liverpool did here. Outplay one of the elite sides for 90 mins. Even going back to their 4-0 win over Madrid - I've never seen us come close to that against a Madrid, Barca or Munich. In my lifetime anyway.

The victories over Milan, Juve and Roma aren't the same, imo. As others have stated above for various reasons.

They've lost their away legs to Sevilla and Levante in the Copa Del Rey, I don't think its beyond the realms of possibility that the 2008 team might have got a result there!

Oh, don't get me wrong - I'd be confident of winning. I just don't think we'd outplay them for the full 90 like Liverpool did here.

Reminds me of the time Dortmund gave a much fancied Mourinho Madrid team the mother of all hidings, winning 4-1 at home in a CL semi final in 2013. That Madrid team contained Ronaldo, Xabi Alonso, Ozil, Modric with Kaka, Benzema, Di Maria on the bench.

That's 2 monster hidings Klopps teams have handed Spains big two in past 5 or 6 seasons. I don't ever recall Fergie handing the ass of Spains big two back to them in such a brutal way.

Last year Liverpool dumped out CL favourites City in the QF stage on an aggregate score of 5-1 despite having Karius in goal.

We must face it that Liverpool have got someone in charge who has been on a different level to any other manager out there including Pep and Zidane, and he'll finally land the silverware soon that many Utd fans in denial have used to try and pretend he's nothing special.

Barca looked like theyd had the after party the night before.

The meltdown wasn't completely unexpected though. Barca have had several big losses in the CL recently: Juve, PSG, Roma. And this was discussed prior to last night.

One of them. Messi couldnt hit the target, Suarez and Coutinho both had good chances to get a shot on goal and were tame

I assumed Liverpool were out, especially when the papers yesterday said they were having to throw the boy Brewster in the deep end, Then while watching Cuomo Prime Time on CNN at half 2 this morning i saw the headlines.

Couldn't believe it, happy for them though.

New contender - Ajax bottling a 3-0 aggregate lead up 2-0 at half in the second leg at home.

Deportivo, Barca (+officials), Liverpool mounted comebacks in the second leg as the home side. Ajax choked at home.
