Is Liverpool 4-0 Barcelona the biggest meltdown in Football History?

As my thread was clearly too much for some children to deal with, I'll post here to say I'm disappointed with the mods. This is obviously a fan forum for United fans, but thought credit was due. Guess it's not surprising to see we're below that, but hey ho. Best football forum on the web eh?

Rightly deleted as you know what kind of responses it would have been filled with anyway. I'm very disappointed with the result, fair play to them and all thoroughly deserved, but nah no need for a thread licking their arse, better off just posting congratulations in the Champions League thread IMO.

Edit: There is a congratulatory thread anyway, ignore this I'm just pissed off. Second year in a row where I can't watch the Champions League final.

Liverpool deserve there credit tonight. They have done the impossible yet again.

Fair play to Liverpool. Got to hand it to them. Deserved

Yeah but that Brazil team was shit and were playing against an insanely good German team.

Here, Barca are meant to be one of the world's best teams, having a 3 goal advantage against a team missing some of their best players.

This is far worst.

But Brazil had a complete breakdown mentally. They were scared for their lives.

I remember, I think it was Messi's anger when Dembele missed that chance to make it 4 in the Camp Nou. I understand that now.

Barcelona have made some really sketchy signings in the last few years haven't they. Liverpool were utterly brilliant, especially considering they were very unlucky to lose 3-0 in the first leg - the Messi factor is still so strong, but the rest of that team, well, Liverpool pressed superbly, played with great purpose and spirit, ran their legs off as a team and still had more in the tank. So strong.

It is a total debacle, especially after last year. Many players are marked for the future and Valverde should resign.
Barcelona-PSG could be there, or Depor Milan, but the fact that they were warned make It extra calamitous, and in my opinion for Barcelona so painful as the final against Steaua

Something has just gone completely wrong with the current Barca team in recent years. Last season they led 4-1 from the first leg vs Roma but were booted out. These meltdowns would never happen under Pep.

Deportivo's 4-0 comeback against Milan's 4-1 is probably my favorite of non-United comebacks

People like to shit on 'Blood and thunder' on this forum, but that's exactly what it was tonight.

You got that right. Valverde's Barça reeks of "'80s losers Barça", even with most of the squad of 2014-15 intact. He has to go.

Honestly. Who ever didn't see this result coming didn't pay any attention to the first leg. Liverpool was by far the better team in both legs and if not for poor finishing and Messi the game would have ended 3-2 for Liverpool. Barca was completely outclassed over two legs and are deservedly not in the final.

Nothing will ever beat PSG's collapse at the Camp Nou. They were still practically three goals up (with the away goal) on aggregate in the 88th minute. Compared to that, this is almost respectable.

Germany 7 Brazil 1 on home turf world cup the biggest I think. This is up there though, even though last season was essentially the same or worse for Barca, given Roma are a weaker team.

Barcelona can comeback stronger. Clearly they need change manager if they want win the CL. Valverde / Messi almost player manager doesn't work for CL.

They’re a one man team. Messi was invisible so they offered nothing. They’d do a Real after Ronaldo if Messi left.

And to think they’ve spunked a combined 270m on Coutinho and Dembele to be the new blood in attack! And we complain about Lukaku.

All that money and without Suarez/Messi they’d be lucky to be finishing top 4 in a 2-team league. Better quickly go to PSG offer half a billion for Mbappe and hope it’s a case of third time lucky

Surely that’s it for Valverde. He’s got the stain of a loser with bad tactical acumen now. A hard one to shake off.

Worth noting that Liverpool went into this game 0-3 down without two of the main attackers (Salah and Firmino), also Keita was injured, Robertson went off at HT plus the psychological blow of seeing City take one step closer to the league the night before.

Barcelona also have the thrashing in the final against Milan, Cruyff was a broken husk of a manager after that. I'm also partial to the time CSKA knocked them out with a B team after selling all of their best players, coming back from 2-0 down at camp nou to score 3 second half goals, the third of which was a cheeky backheel.

What is it that this happens so frequently in recent years?

Barca - PSG
Roma - Barca
Utd - PSG
Liverpool - Barca

But that’s not really the point. Yes Liverpool were the better side in the first leg but it was still 3-0 and Liverpool had to not only score 4 to go through but keep a clean sheet against Messi and Suarez. That’s a tall order. I think most football fans would know in these situations if you can get 1-0 and keep them out until half time the nerves might start to jangle, but to then complete the job is something else.

I find it hard to dislike this Liverpool side tbh.

I'm not trying to take anything away from this achievement. Amazing game no doubt but people calling it was a miracle are going too far. Don't get me wrong I wish United had even half the attitude and football skills of this Liverpool side but that's the main reason I never thought this comeback was beyond them.

PSG beat Barca 4- 0 at home and lost 6-1 in the Nou Camp.

Psg against barca sticks out. But so does today and Barca vs Roma last year.

Milan vs Liverpool also brings back bad memories

Nah PSG vs United, embarrassing that a club could lose to such a shit side.

Liverpool on the other hand are the best club in Europe at present.
City are better.

No doubt they are the best 2 in Europe right now though. If City didn't have rotten luck against Spurs, they would be contesting the CL final and the league, similar to us and Chelsea in the late 2000s.

Deportivo -Milan for sure. The difference in the players was staggering. When you have top sides then they can click and produce great results. But Deportivo were minows and to get up psychologically was unbelievable.

agree with you intensity passion . everything we lack as a club right now Messi was poor tonight though ? i mean i know he's bad off the ball but when you see liverpools pressing and urgency none had the same in a Barca shirt Messi couldn't be asked to close down literally right infront of him .

as much as i hate Liverpool love to see suarez suffering hate him more then the actual club .

That corner was so so so smart. Dammit they are decent.

When a team starts a few goals down it can really set them free to just go for it.

If an early goal comes then it’s always a possibility.

Barca has plenty of chances but mentally they were already in the Final.

no, this is a terrible barce side, the very end of the greatest side ever 10 years later. reminds me of SAFs 2012 team relying on the same players they did in their previous team.

questions raised over how we have spent our money but barce spent 300m on coutinho and dembele and they don't look like they are done reinforcing their front 3, they dont look a team at all.

Yep, made a nice return on LPool to score 3+ goals tonight - at Anfield they're always up for it and we managed to cause Barca a few issues with our garbage team so I knew there'd be goals.

They are an efficient team but when someone puts it up to them in any way they don't have it in them to even bother. Messi played for 10 minutes over 2 legs.

Yea it is. PSG wasn't as bad as PSG at least played football and just blew a bunch of chances whilst VAR would have saved them that game. Barcelona had VAR but were not only overplayed but also gave away an incredibly embarrassing goal to clinch their loss. Easily the most embarrasing display I've seen from a football team at that club level (nothing beats 7-1).
