He's half fit and might be playing with an injury.

With the exception of Lukaku, all our options for the front 3 have had injuries lately. Sanchez has been nowhere to be seen, even. If we don't renew Herrera's contract, we might be short on funds to properly both replace him, and improve on our squad.

Ok so maybe he can be the "main man", deserve the main man contract, get to start every game and take all the free kicks then when he’s a half decent player and not right now?
 
Short stride makes him look faster than he is. Accelerates quickly, but we saw a flat footed Pique do fine with him tonight when they were both going full pelt.

I would genuinely like to know what you've based this on. I'm being absolutely honest here, what have you seen to convince me that his potential is close to limitless!

Now Mbappe's potential is (probably) limitless, but Rashford's..... seriously?

Your being too harsh. He is not fully fit and those moments he tends to snap at chances.

Ole has to learn a lot about the squad.

He's twenty fecking one, he's not a kid anymore.
Mbappe is a year younger and head and shoulders above Rashford.
Rashford is quality, but not the complete article yet, but he is also definitely not a kid.
 
he is still not 100% after that liverpool injury, yet he still scored goals, this kid will be a very very good player...
 
Was poor today but coming back from a niggling ankle injury, I hope he gets some game time this weekend to get his sharpness back. He is a 1 on target in 3 shots player at the moment and we aren't creating enough as a team for him or others to get their confidence up in an actual game. The best chance we did have came from a quality ball from him, so he has got it in his locker but consistency is key.

We aren't at a top level yet so I don't expect our players to shine every game. He has done very well since Ole has come in and the whole team has dipped recently, one we are firing on all cylinders then expect to see Rashford scoring and creating more.
 
He's not developed any further from the kid who does something spectacular every now and again.
 
I just hope greenwood fills out and gets more game time next season, as he is the future striker for us.

Don’t disagree about Rashford specifically but that sentence could be applied to our entire team. The original boost of ridding of detestable Mourinho and bringing in Ole is slowly wearing off and I fear we are really going back to our true level now.

On Rashford, @ OP meh there’s some truth in what you’re saying but equally he is young, coming off an injury and also just in poor form. I don’t know how we can tell he doesn’t have the work ethic.
 
If he’s half fit then he shouldn’t be playing. He should be in constant liaison with the medical staff and the manager in regards to his fitness. It’s not Sunday league where going through motions can get you through on a bit of talent.

Same and 100% agree. He's just not that good and I genuinely look forward to saying "I told you so" to most thid forum when hes past 25/26 when the "young" argument is invaild.

But who’s job is it to keep his feet on the ground? Yes partly himself by not being arrogant but we’ve made him into a “star” when he just isn’t one - he is a talented player who can do the exceptional but is, currently, generally ordinary for the majority of the 90 minutes. It is the club who should ensure he gets his helping of humble pie.

Get if you don’t think he’s good, fine, but get a grip. He plays for the team you support (assuming here) so why in the world it’d please you to see him fail is beyond comprehension
 
I’d love to know why this is the top thread. Don’t really see what he did wrong. Especially if you were going compare him alongside some other (arguably) more experienced players
 
Take him off the free kicks pplease. They don't amount to nothing together with his long range shots that goes over the bar. Why he doesn't trust his teammates, keep the passing move going and then move inside the box like a normal striker. I feel like all our passing moves die when the ball reaches his feet.
 
I doubt it would please any united supporter to see him fail. Its just that some, including me dont rate him at all.
 
He has big future here, he is biggest English talent with big potential and excellent skill. But going with him as a first choice striker in next season( so not buying world class goalscorer) would be disaster.
 
Thread seeems a bit harsh. He's probably not ready to lead the line for a full season. A worldy forward and him would be nice.
 
Is the "he's not fit" line because he's been fluffing his lines lately? He's very clearly running and shooting as hard and as often as he wants to. And being played close to the maximum amount of minutes...
 
The natural conclusion to this thread is a £300k a week contract.

You genuinely look forward to one of our youth players failing to make it at united so you can score Internet points in five years time.
 
Some people don't seem to realise that rashford isn't picking himself. And hes clearly been told or given permission to have long range shots. The whole ego accusation is bizarre. Always seems down to earth and humble. Never complained when he was dropped or called out by Jose. Just tried his best when given chances.

We don't have a world class forward so why the feck are people having a go at someone who is basically learning the game in front 75k people? Its not his fault our recruitment has been crap.

The idea that he's just doing what he wants is absurdly insulting to Ole and the management team.
He's being encouraged NOW because that's how you grow. His decision making and ability has many levels to rise to and if he doesn't cut it in his prime then by all means leather him.
 
He's going to be inconsistent at this age, it's natural. The issue is there aren't many strikers we could buy that would fit how we want to play and score a load of goals at the same time so it's better to persist with him because we can mould him more easily.
 
It maybe just a coincidence, but ever since he started fannying about with his hair hes been a bit naff. Could it all be going to his head and hes losing focus? Maybe. Dont think Id right him off though. Plenty of potential there to be great for us. Hes certainly not anywhere near the top the list of players that needs some serious bubble bursting.
 
Stop it. He was not at his best today. A fully fit and confident rashford would have been taking every player on as soon as he got on the ball.
His work ethic and clear development as a player is Ronaldo-esque. You can see that he almost has this psychopathic addiction to becoming better just like Ronaldo did.

He is not doing horribly. But don't really think his trajectory is moving much upwards. At least from my side, I kinda expected him to be better by now after bursting into the scene few years back. Maybe previous managers and their tactics were crap and that might be the reason, but time is running out for him. As of now he still looks far away form turning into a 20-25 goals kinda player.
