When a team is dominant like Barcelona the attacking players will look even better than they really are. When a team like Man United can't control games and create many chances, half chances or 1x1 situations the strikers will look worse than they really are.

He is alright. As I said in the "Rashford as our first choice striker" thread, he never will be good enough to lead the line at a top club. He is an attacking player, not a central striker. We need someone of RVP's ilk to lead the line. Someone with good hold up who can bring others into play and is a top notch goal scorer. Bringing a player like that will help out both Rashford and Martial.

Because this isn’t about whether he is good enough it is about how to get the best out of him. Should we indulge him and make him feel like the world is his oyster or tell him he’s not quite cut out to be a first team regular and get him to work harder on polishing the weaker parts of his game and create a more limited but more consistent player.
He was shite tonight and does need to work on aspects of his game but, the pitchforks need to be put away. I'm not confident he'll ever be a 30 goal a season striker, but pretty sure he'll end up a very good first team player.

Right now he's first choice cause there literally isnt anyone else out there. Also how do you know he isnt working on his game or someone isnt working with him. Or is someone is indulging him or not. He's 21 and as you said showed promise and some good stuff, just lacks consistency.

Kane is a natural striker who has the killer instinct inside the box. Rashford is anything but that.
Man City have Jesus yet they rely on Aguero. We need a world class striker as Rashford isn’t good enough yet to lead the line and Lukaku is average.

And that's my point. He's 21 and very much learning his trade as a leading CF. This is the first time in his career he's been asked to lead a line and it's very much a learning curve. People need to accept that young players who are learning will make mistakes, that's literally how you learn. He has great ability and will one day fulfil it but all this moaning and begging him to not even try stuff is how you get a player that doesn't fulfil his potential. You don't want a striker bearing down on goal worrying about missing rather than being sure he'll score, people need a reality check.
Also, he's being asked to do the job of our other more experienced strikers because they're too shit to do it. Blame them if you want to blame anyone.

No-one wants him to fail. We want him to be the ruthless, clinical no.10 who's gonna win us games. Not the ponderous, deer in the headlights who (might) do one good thing a game, that we have now. Indulging him, giving him the 10 shirt, not subbing him even though he's dreadful, talks of 300k etc. Its not being matched by performances, and no manager who's serious about competing for titles should be indulging him, fan favourite or not.

He’s been watching Ronaldo with his speculative 25-30 yard shots and trying to hit that free kick which either ends up looking hideous or it’s an unsaveable, spectacular goal (only the ratio is much more weighted to the former)

Nothing wrong with a bit of confidence but I think he needs to reign it in a little and start doing the basic things right first.
His constant snatching at chances is infuriating as well and some of his misses are horrible and unacceptable, really. I get that he’s still a young man but he’s a professional footballer who supposedly wants 300k a week... I mean, play like it then.. and at the minute he’s not even work half of that.
He does need to concentrate on his game still and work hard at it because he’s supremely talented and Danny fecking Welbeck like some suggest. I completely agree with the op that the hype seems to have gone to his head. He performs much better when he has a point to prove and it’s noticeable.

Lashing the ball is a 50/50 for me, I don't feel it's worth it but it should be tried every now and again. I much prefer the way Pogba or Fred hits them but I think the thinking is there's not enough pace behind those to beat a keeper of that quality. Anyway, I hope he improves that part of his game, or drops it and focuses on something else instead.

- spotty finisher, especially when having to react quickly

Who put him on Free-Kick's anyway? Should put Fred on them when he's playing.
Rashford is far from the finished article and we would really do well to sell Lukaku and bring in another better senior striker to let Rashford develop
