Is it time Amorim promotes some of the youth?

Awful conditions to throw them into. We’ve done this Rashford, Garnacho and Mainoo and I think, to varying degrees, it’s negatively impacted their development to be honest. Let the players that got us here take the hits for now.

The phrasing of the question makes me think this is going to be a stick the op uses further down the line to beat the manager with. I might be wrong, but a better question would be, “Is it time to allow some youth players to challenge underperforming first team players”

The answer would be yes.

Good point. But at the same time, Harry Amass couldn't be worse than Dalot and Malacia at LWB?!

Yes. At least they'd put some commitment and effort in, it would also allow him to get a proper assessment together of them, to see if there are any who may just be ready or close to being ready, that could mean we don't need to prioritise a position as much as others, given how financially limited we seem to be

He could also start working with them and getting them used to his system. This season is the closest we are getting to a free hit as we are already so far behind

What worries me for using them would be there are no strong leaders in the squad and I don't like the mentality of a lot of the players around them, no one leads by example in the way Roy Keane etc did. A Zlatan type up front would be perfect

I'd far rather see the kids TRYING and their inexperience perhaps catching up with them at times, than the vast majority of the overpaid current "first team" strolling around most seemingly not giving a shit/clearly not being good enough. Might send a message to them replacing some of them with the kids, although most probably still won't care due to getting their massive wages still.

Maybe get the Liverpool game out the way (too much of a cauldron to throw them into) Then start to integrate them

Unpopular opinion but I'd also remove the captaincy from Bruno

Why is Amass not even on the bench? Dalot is the most glaring problem in this side. Having a threat down the left at least has the potential of creating space and opportunities for lots of others.

I've been thinking the same thing for a while now, what has he got to lose by promoting a few. He's speaking about the current crop not being brave enough, promote some youth and see what happens.

Some of the players who have been getting games for us need to be benched. We can't buy players right this second and it's unknown who exactly we are going to bring in during the next transfer window. We should 100% be looking at who is available in the window and who we can bring in and (just as importantly) move out. As part of all this, we should be looking at our own youth systems and making judgements over any potential youth prospects that could be ready for a call up. Some of these players may make it to the bench, some may only get a few minutes here and there at the end of games, and/or some may get more than that. But, let's look. We need fresh players coming in, so let's see what we actually have. We do also need to be realistic that some of these prospects may not be ready and need more development time.

I have said this since he came. Give a youth player minutes at the end of the game IF we are winning. Big ask at the moment. He could have half a dozen given chances in different games and we might find a gem.

Yes. Rebuilding the team using the majority of youth team players is pretty much the last thing we haven't tried in these years of constant rebuilds.

Also, if he starts training the youth teams in the 343 now, in a couple of years he will be able to fit them into the first team seamlessly.

Politically it will buy him more time. Also I think more of the players are not fit for purpose so why not look at the medium term and take a gamble on the kids -

Potentially an exciting attacking threat to spark the team.

Mantato could be an option.

Why not? If the current first teamers can't play to this system and they have looked static anyway, time to use the youth. I will start with demoting Malacia and Zirkzee to the reserves.

No the young players need to be protected from the toxic environment which is the first team. You can see the weight of the pressure has already impacted Mainoo and Garnacho.

No.

We play an inform Newcastle next, then have trips to Anfield and the Emirates. Don't you have enough players to throw under the bus without adding a bunch of kids?

I do not see the u21 boys tearing up their league and while the u18 side are doing well we all know that unless they are physical specimens then they will not be up to the transition.

Because he's 17 years old and entirely unprepared, mentally, physically and technically to play premier league football. You can't just jump from Dalot isn't playing well to throwing a kid to the wolves.

Wahey!

We need to sell as many of the players with the wrong attitude as possible first. We have had a culture problem for a long time, even if results are bad we need to get a performance culture going where there is no question of not working in training etc.

Once we get that then bring in youth so they learn good habits from the start. We don’t want them learning from some of our current crop. We need to be ruthless on the sales side, ideally in January.

Might as well - if they suit the system. We are achieving feck all with the current lot this season anyway. Maybe a few youngsters can inject some life into the season.

Do we have any promising attackers? We’re barebones for the front three positions. Short on quantity and quality

A very tricky call to make tbh, we're in such a bad position that we struggle even in the "easy" games that would let him give the youngsters a chance.

Wouldn't be fair to them to be thrown into the deep end, and he knows it himself. Didn't have any issue promoting youth at Sporting. If there's anyone who knows how to do it, it's him.

Yes. He should be picking a couple for the matchday squad who he has found will do what he asks them to do better than some of the senior players and giving them a chance off the bench as they will have nothing to lose.

yes so the fans can target and destroy some young players before they're ready for mens football.. . Let the actaul first team take responsibility, I'm fine with finishing 15-16th and a clearout as big as possible, we re in the middle of the open heart surgery, just without anaesthetics.

We have three fixtures coming up that we are likely to lose regardless of who is playing. Not the ideal time to bring in youth. Let them come in for games we think we can win and build them up a bit.

For a week or 2, then reinvest marcus money or get loans to fill the space. We shouldnt be giving spots just for the sake of academy.

I’m pretty sure he’s already said he’s not going to do this. Something about young players either needing to learn other systems, or that they should be able to adapt to his system.

Apart from Amass, I’m not sure any are ready for the step up. Could give the likes of Ennis, Fletcher or Mather a go but it would be savage when people realise they aren’t good enough for premier league football.

We have some very promising U18’s but they aren’t physically strong enough for mens football yet. Kukonki seems to have impressed Amorim so maybe he could have some minutes

Agree

Mantato, Amass, Collyer, Obi Martin, Kone, Gore, Vitek, Ogunneye, Hugill, Kukonki, Bennett, Thwaites, Aljofree, Fletcher, Biancheri all performing well in the unders and could step up and do a job in an experimental end to the season. Got to be an option.

Don't forget Moorehouse, he's a baller.

I would like to see Toby get a chance..Ruben would have to be impressed with his energy levels.

We have a lot of talented u18's, just not sure it's the right time to put any of them in. Would be a disservice to them.

Amass looked a notch or 2 off senior football during pre season.

No. This is a major part of the problem in the first place.

Just wildly chucking 17/18/19 year olds in and hoping for the best.

It's not fair on the team and isn't fair on the player.

We'll get battered if we start experimenting playing younger academy prospects now.

We already have young talents in Yoro, Garna, Mainoo who are struggling to find their feet right now.

We've got enough youth in the side as it is.
I would like us to be Abit pragmatic in the transfer window and try to bring in some experienced pros on loan who are familiar with the league .
Maybe we could bring in Barkley as a option?
