Irish Politics and stuff.

100%

And the words “allegedly” and “apparently” are doing a lot of heavy lifting in your second paragraph. It sounds exactly like the sort of fake news these far right scumbags like to share on social media.

I went and had a look at the comments on the community watch pages. These people are using this alleged incident as a smokescreen to try and get some sort of public protest going.

Usual guff you get from these sorts on social media.

We cater to a lot of different nationilties, whatever people's personal opinions are that's for them, but as a football club we can't be seen to be linked to the likes of that. And especially not when you have to go through the local FF & FG councillors and TDs for grants etc..

Grants aside it’s a shitty vibe for young kids to be around. Must be some proper wrong ‘uns pulling the strings here. Are you a club in the DDSL?

Just a question, I'm on my local football club committee.

Recently, there was an incident in the local area, allegedly two males tried to get 2 young boys into a car, specifically mentioned is how these two guys were apparently asylum seekers. These kids are also suppsed to be members of the football club.

This morning, we get a message asking us to promote a post on the club social media about a public awareness meeting, to promote public safety for kids and the elderly and all this kind of stuff etc.. but littered in there is stuff about asylum seekers, Ireland leaving the EU and a load of other bullshit.

I've dug my heels in and just said, no way should the club be linking themselves in anway to that kind of nonsense.

Am I right here to say no to this?
Did this actually happen? The reason I ask is because the same type of allegation has been shared around my kids school twice, via WhatsApp and the local community. Both times the police came back to say that it was false allegations.

Because of the school being an educate together school and therefore very diverse (why we picked it in the first place), and the community around the school having a lot of foreign families it’s a dick move by the scumbags

We're in the NERL.

I agree for the kids including my own I don't want them to have to be in fear or walking to school, my daughter is 9 and for the last 2 years she's been walking home the 10/15 mins with her friends. They need to have that bit of independence, I don't want to take that away from them.

I can understand people have concerns and whatever they do on their own time and social media is up to them. I looked at some of the comments linked to these pages, we can't be linking the club to that shit.

I don't know if it did actually happen. One of the first people I saw mention it, I know is a total bs merchant an absolute weapon. Gards have been involved and one of the messages I saw actually named the boys as well. But, even though that is the case, it may or may not have happened.

It just annoys me that these people try to use these incidents to drive their hate through fear.

These scum are everywhere driving their toxic narratives.
The other day I saw a post regarding a bunch of Muslim ladies who had raised a lot of money for a kidney disease charity. Within 5 posts someone had posted a link to the attack in Austria. In my opinion people should be charged with spreading hate speech when they do stuff like that

Pogues turning into Colin!

I did say sexier than the last Minister, to be fair. Which is a low bar.
No point trying to back track now you filthy bastard.

No judgement like, I would too. And I've been in plenty of boring meetings where your mind can wander off to vivid sexual fantasies involving the people there with you.

We got notification that our gas is going up 12.5% and electric by 10%

Gouging feckers. So much for lowering the cost eh
eir just increased my broadband and tv by €7 a month mid contract  switched to them 6 months ago to get a cheap 12 month contract and it goes up by 16%. how the feck can that even be allowed? It’s wild.

I have no sympathy for anyone who willingly signs a contract with Eir

They are the worst Irish company

Eir are fine when you only have to deal with them once a year. I've been with them for 12 years now and everyone else I know changes to Vodafone, sky and whoever else and always end up with nothing but problems.

I ring the loyalty team up before my contract runs out, tell them I can go to Sky or whoever else for half their price. They say we can give you TV for this and prime etc... I say, feck the TV and the landline, I don't use them.

Then they'll just say, keep the TV and your landline and we can give you more discounts.
The main trick I've found to getting a good discount with them is to actually keep your landline active. Fecking weird but it works.

Who is the best for broadband?

Depends on where you are and if there's fibre cabling in your area. I'd lean towards Virgin or Eir. But I think they all use the same networks and cabling anyway, so it doesn't really matter.

If you're out in the sticks, Starlink is probably your best bet for reliability and speed, 300mbs straight out of the box.

Was just thinking that. Everyone knows they’re the worst Irish company. And we’ve known that for years.
They were doing comfortably the best 12 month deal you weirdos. I switch every 12 months.

Also Sky are worse.

And the point is it’s not just eir. All the major providers are doing it due to some weird loophole.

Eir are absolutely fine unless something goes wrong, in which case you’re swimming against a tide of shit. But my sim only plan (unlimited everything) and 500mb broadband is €55 a month, which is ridiculous value really.

It’s the same with them all. As long as you have fibre through Siro or Openeir it doesn’t matter which provider you use anyway, all the same networks, so just get the best deal you can. The painful part is having to cancel the contract at the end but if you go with a provider on the same line you usually don’t have to.

But yeah always best to switch every 12 months, you’re basically on half price deals forever then. €30 vs €55 or €60, no brainer. If you threaten eir to leave they’ll usually give you the same deal again too.

Aye. Every year the same 5 min call to get the same rate with them. Bearable for the saving, tbf.

Digiweb seem great, no issues with the service and they actively tell you to ring back next year to get the new deal. 1GB fibre that is 35 quid a month and only goes up to 50 after the deal anyway. Customer support is in Dundalk and barely any wait times and they're very helpful.

They seem good all right and don’t have the CPI price increase mid contract like the big boys do.

My contract with Eir is up in May. How does the negotiating go? Do you just ring up and be blunt like; "Look, give me a good deal or I'm off?"

first you ring and wait about 20 minutes, then basically do that and then they’ll spend another 20 minutes trying to chat you into taking worse deals. Hang firm, keep telling them no I want to cancel and then finally they’ll probably offer the same deal you’re on now. If they don’t just get another provider instead. It’s a no brainier to switch every 12 months with all these clowns.

You can just ask for their loyalty team to call you back.

And basically yeah, just say, I can get the same service for €35 per month with Virgin, give me something to stay or I'm off. They will usually be able to offer you different discounts.

I got a €21 discount for 24 months when I signed up to fibre with them, plus 2 extra €10 discounts, plus prime video thrown in. So, went from over €90 down to about €55p/m.

Ah, so you have to go in with the pretense of: "I'm definitely leaving."

I was just gonna be like; "I don't the want the bother of switching and you don't want to lose the €60 you get from me every month. Let's just keep things that way."

Fair enough. I just can't stand the idea of him looking like he's kowtowing to Trump.
It’s unfortunate but we just have to keep in mind that while Trump clearly doesn’t give a shite about Ireland, there remains a lot of goodwill among Americans for us, even if it’s based on largely fanciful sentiments.
