Music Irish Music

The worst part of family get togethers is when the acoustic guitar gets brought out after a few drinks and you've got to sit there and pretend to enjoy the pissed old men singing old Irish folk songs.

Cool story pal

Some recent Irish excellence.

We could be on for back-to-back Irish albums of the year for CMAT.

She'll have stiff competition from Lankum though, and this pack of louts.

Vincent Kompany?? Am I missing something? (Don't answer that...)

[Verse 2]
I've got a wicked way of hating my own company
She's not too bad, but got me in trouble way back when
Watch sixteen hours straight of the Gilmore Girls quite comfortably
I was crazy back then
Cut all my hair off trying to look like Vincent Kompany
Tied it together so I could tape it to the wall
And posted pictures hoping my friends would fall in love with me
I'm not crazy at all

Ahhh, it's the title! I thought it was the artiste - duh! Didn't look properly

The new Scratch album is a cracker.

I'm not sold on the Scratch, I'm working at their NYE show unless I can get out of it.

Off to Galway to see the Wallopers on Wednesday

I saw Damien Dempsey last night in Vicar Street. Excellent gig

You have to come at them from the angle that they are metal heads who've gone a little trad, whereas, the likes of Lankum and TMW (even though they first made their name rapping as TPM) are trad heads who have fleshed that trad sound out into something else. I'm not saying you've lumped The Scratch in with them but a lot of folk have and it's unfair.

They put on a deadly live show though and are incredible musicians in their own right. You'll enjoy it if you haven't seen 'em before.

Speaking of Lankum, their album is rightfully topping dozens of end-of-year lists at the moment. It's a special record.

I am from South Africa, I couldn't find a Spotify link for them, so I used a BandCamp link to show their other work.

 ah I was just poking fun. Catchy tune. I heard one of their songs a few years ago but hadn't really seen/heard much from them since.

Live shows getting 5 star reviews in the Grauniad too.

Yep, I haven't seen them this album cycle other than in 3Arena for the Gig for Gaza a few weeks back, which, even though they only played four tunes, was mindblowing. They're a level above everyone else in Ireland at the moment.

Well? Converted?

Debut Sprints album is an absolute cracker. 4/5-star reviews everywhere.

New tunes o'clock.

Incredible show of solidarity, coming at a massive cost to all of them. Very proud member of the Irish music industry today.

Yeah, that's great, fair play to them. Is Catherine Martin still going to gobble corporate cock?

She's part of a panel on later today discussing the Basic Income for Artists scheme, which, interestingly is being chaired by Angela Dorgan, who's the head of First Music Contact and was the one who arranged for all the Irish bands to go to SXSW in the first place. I wonder will she still take part...

I assume CMAT has been mentioned here? She's fantastic.

edit; yep, first post, @Zebs is the man

Been tipping her for greatness since 2015 when she was in a band called Bad Sea.

Looks like she's going to SXSW.
