Discussion Your Lineup Prediction

  • I'm not sure where this idea of "bulking up" originated, but players need to be athletes, not bodybuilders.
Rashford is heavier now than he was when he was younger. He was better when he was younger and lighter.
Martial was better when he was lighter/younger. As he got heavier, he got worse.
Generally speaking, when MCFC buy a player they ask that player to lose weight....not gain weight. And MCFC are the best team in the league.
David Beckham moved to Real Madrid and I think it was in his 2nd season that he bulked up. In an interview he stated that the reason why his performance had declined was because he got heavier....so he lost weight and improved his performance.
Romelu Lukaku joined us and got heavier and heavier, to the point where his performances suffered badly. He moved to Inter, immediately lost weight and his performances improved.

I could go on, but you get the drift.

I can't think of a single player who has improved after "bulking up".

“Bulking up” or in general putting on more muscle mass doesn’t mean you have to get slower/less agile. If that’s what happens then you’re going about it the wrong way.

Although I’ve long suspected our fitness/conditioning dept pre-takeover was absolutely stuck in the stone ages, facilities included.

See, this is the problem now. The guy takes over a shitshow of a season, first game as manager (or "head coach") in English football, and already it's "must win".

Are we gonna give this guy time to figure out his best players and best formation, who he needs to keep and who he needs to get rid of? The chances are, if he's given the freedom to do that, the results are going to be up and down for the remainder of the season.

    I agree.

We need to see a style and patterns of play right away. No excuses.

This is the type of on the road fixture we would routinely lose miserably under our previous manager, so anything relatively positive would be most welcome.

Not that it matters now - but not true at all. We were very good at beating teams we 'should beat' under ETH.

People are expecting miracles for the new manager's first game.
I suggest you give him time to adapt to the EPL and manage your expectations for the first few months.
I am all for raising expectations, but to expect a big win for his first game in charge, in a league he has never managed in - I don't think this is reasonable.
Our record victory is 9-0 vs Ipswich in 1995. No reason to believe Ruben cannot match or even surpass this feat. :wenger:

First season we were. Last season we weren't consistent at beating any teams other than the bottom 3 (and we still drew to a horrible Burnley team at home)

    Onana
    De Ligt Maguire Martinez
    Mazraoui Casemiro ugarte Shaw
    Bruno Amad
    Rashford

Assuming everyone is fit after the break
Shaw and Maguire, surely they are not gonna start after longterm injury especially Shaw in a position requiring so much dynamism. He will be used as a LCB anyway is my bet, and we will see much more attacking player there.

I agree but couldn’t see a world where a fit Martinez doesn’t play. We have easier games against Ipswich and Glimt which are a decent platform to blood returning players like those two before tougher games next month like City and Arsenal.

It's Ipswich... its reasonable to expect a win against them

This is my guess based on all the stuff i've been hearing and considering the current fitness of the squad.

    Onana
    Lindelof De Ligt Martinez
    Mazroui--------------------------------------------Garnacho
    Ugarte Casameiro
    Bruno Hojlund Rashford

Gonna be weird seeing everyone predict our line ups every week now with a 3 at the back. Just hope we don’t pick up an injury crisis at defence as we are going to need at least 4 fit. 3 for starting and 1 for bench.
Seeing as we have 8 lads who could play there, Shaw and Maz being the 7 & 8, it would suck if less than 4 were available. Hopefully Amorim has a special eraser to remove injuries.

That's a weird way of spelling Diallo

    Onana
De Ligt - Lindelof - Evans
    Dalot - Casemiro - Ugarte - Mazraoui
    Bruno - Amad
    Hojlund
Expecting something like this since it's likely that Martinez is injured. Hopefully Yoro will get some minutes in the second half.

Better for the team tho- having time with the coach
True - if they were all together for those 2 weeks working on things (of course his VISA delay would have then been a bigger issue!) But it's an international week - almost all the players who'll be available for the Ipswich game are spread around the world with various international squads, not here working with the manager.

It's at least handy for Amorim to acclimatise himself to the club and new surroundings better, and be able to study footage of our players (and Ipswich matches) for some lengthy planning of the game. But he won't actually have much time working with the players who'll be featuring in the first game - it'll all be a rush job when they start returning later next week.

Until the likes of Yoro and Shaw () are fit to feature, then that's pretty much what I'd expect. With tweaks such as Mazraoui or Dalot for RWB, and Hojlund or Rashford as #9?

I'd like to see Hojlund start, but I think it would be a 'bigger thing' (certainly reported that way!) if Rashford's left out of Amorim's first starting line up. So think he'll probably get the nod rather than start off straight away with a big Amorim / Rashford media circus.

It could be that Amorim plays it safe with the WB's and plays both Dalot and Mazraoui in the roles, rather than gamble on a youngster out of position in Garnacho. But I'd prefer to see the latter option given a go.

If we don’t have a recognisable style and pattern of play that is obvious to everyone watching after two minutes he should be sacked. No excuses. We have put up with Amorim’s bullshit for long enough. Either get on with it or go home to wherever you came from. I am sick of this failing 30 seconds that I have had to live through.

We should go a season where we change the manager every month. We'll be barely lose a game.
