IPL 2017 | MI Champions. Win by 1 run

That was needed against that bowler Soni. He was playing well and a wicket then was going to be suicidal. Though he should have had slightly less dots
I agree playing safe was needed then but Dhoni just blocks every ball. At one stage they had gone 10 dots or so in a row which is mental in such a situation. Should keep taking singles at least.

As a DD and RCB fan this has been depressing

SRH is so strong as a team. When you watch them bat, they seem batting heavy. When they bowl they seem bowling oriented. Even Dhawan is back in form.

Am I the only person who thinks that if DD stopped fecking around, picked a consistent team and backed their players that they've got one of the best sides in the IPL?

Iyer, Nair, Pant and Samson are four of the most talented Indian batsman around. Morris is probably the best all-rounder in the competition with Russell banned and woefully under-utilised by DD, and Mishra is a perfectly decent spinner. Get the right balance with their 3 other overseas (a.k.a don't pick Mathews) and they could finish really strongly.

Nah. Too many inconsistent and young players in the same side imo.

Also, when was the last time a team scored 190 with no 50s?

Agreed.

Not convinced by Nair in T20 but he can be a good foil for Samson/Pant. It is a well balanced team. Missing 1 or 2 players, maybe.

Stokes has done really well this season.

Some players are real fighters in the game, he seems like one of those. Cook, Kohli, Jadeja, Stokes.. all in their own ways.. names you want in your team.

Long lost brothers?

And just how good has Tahir been! Second behind Bhuvi for the purple cap which is insane given he went unpicked in the auction.

Absolutely love watching him bowl.

I don't support any particular team in ipl, but I always look forward to RCB playing, because of how destructive they can be on their day. Last IPL when AB and Kohli were hitting 200's for fun was always a joy to watch. They've been by far the biggest disappointment of the IPL.

Of course they then drop Morris

Surely he is unfit? I refuse to believe anyone with an ounce of cricket knowledge would drop Morris for Samuels.

I think it's a good decision. Samuels is a much better batsman, he offers solidity to the top order which has been flaky this season and they have a lot of Indian bowling options.

Cummins and Rabada have the potential to be better as pure bowlers than Morris.

Pant plays like a flat track bully and Samson lacks any consistency. Has been around for 3 years, blowing hot and cold.

Both good for IPL teams, but some way from international cricket.

Shreyas Iyer is a good player.

Pant has been mismanaged by DD's management(playing him at 6 for some reason), good to see him being promoted. He really is a class act, there's a reason why out of all the U19's Dravid bought his last year.

They are still very young. Inconsistency should be expected. Pant is still 19, Samson is only 22 himself.

Samson looks the classier player though. But apparently he's shit in the domestic games.

He had a niggle but agree with your general post. DD has the potential to be an excellent team, they keep on experimenting too much though.

Nair
Samson
Pant
Iyer
Anderson
Morris
Rabada
Cummins
Mishra
Shami/Zaheer
Nadeem

is a perfectly good T20 team. I mean you'll be hard pressed to find a better pace bowling attack then Cummins, Rabada and Zak. Batting is a tad weak with 6 pure batsmen. Mishra and Nadeem are good limited over bowlers.

International cricket these days favours such bullies. Not sure how you can say that Pant is some way from international cricket and then praise Shreyas Iyer.

Why are Kohli and ABD playing like idiots? The pitch is rubbish but even so this is terrible stuff. Gave away 4 tickets today. Seems to have been a good choice.

How do you keep coming with these gems.

Clueless as usual. Morris' value is in the incremental runs he scores(which is less valuable given the top order has already collapsed) and the wickets he takes(which is incremental over a fairly reasonable bowling attack, he's not going to get replaced by someone who bowls 4 overs for 40 runs). Given that Delhi's big problem has been solidity in the top order around which batsmen can play, it is certainly worth testing a solid top order batsman around whom they can make big scores and see what they lose in the form of bowling potency. The other question to answer is Morris vs Rabada/Cummins, the latter duo being strike bowlers perhaps ruling in their favour. This must be the logic Delhi went through and it is worth testing. It's not a game in which you pick the combination from the squad which gives the maximum aggregate batting average and the minimum aggregate bowling average for any 5 chosen bowlers. Not something I'd expect you to understand.

Shreyas Iyer is a fairly accomplished first class batsman. He has good technique. Pant has had one good season and the jury's out on technique. Iyer was called up to replace Kohli in the last test squad -- he is a much better prospect from what I have seen.
