IPL 2014

KM, you have a victim mentality when it comes to this. I don't recall any in the Western media calling for the IPL to be stopped when Sreesanth, Chandila and Chavan were banned. In fact, most of them ignore the IPL. They treat it with disdain when talking about it if they have to talk about it -- but that's subjective and they look upon their own limited overs cricket the same way.

As far as punishments go, crappy is wrong. The English come down much stronger recently than Indians do. They took the fixers to court and sent some of them to jail. They did that with Mervyn Westfield, with Danish Kaneria and they did that with the 3 Pakistanis and have filed a case against Lou Vincent. When it happens on their soil and it is found, they come down on it fairly.

Our administration is a laughing stock and full of corrupt cnuts who are in it to make a buck. I don't know why you'd want to paint them as being some sort of superior body to the ECB or whoever else.

Most of the boards are shitty. Giles Clarke is as bad as Srinivasan(ok not, probably half as abd), but trying to look for reasons to say "hey look, the BCCI did this well" is clutching at straws. They're a joke.

Very happy to see Sehwag make runs. Absolute legend of Indian cricket.

"There is one thing I was inspired by, whenever I got out early," Sehwag said after the match. "I called my son and he said, 'Papa, you are not a good player, you are not scoring runs,' so I said, 'Hold on, there are a couple of games left, so maybe I'll show you what I'm capable of.'"

Some Indians fans who make jokes about Sehwag remind me of Sehwag's kid in that quote. At least the kid's like 5 years old and got an excuse..

I'd be amazed if spot fixing doesnt happen at every level around the globe. Its simply too easy to do and quite a lot of money to make. Be it the IPL, County cricket or even Internationals. The solution isnt to end the tournament but to catch the guilty ones and impose sanctions so harsh that others take note.

No offense to the Bengalis on here, but the celebrations last time when KKR won were cringe worthy.

I hope Punjab win for that reason.

I want KXIP to win it due to the fact that they've played some amazing cricket and is coached by an Indian but KKR are just too strong. Bowling line up of Narine, Shakib, Morkel and Yadav(Why didn't he got selected for England?) is fantastic. Plus Uthappa is in some form.

It was a celebration hyped, encouraged and bankrolled by the new-in-power-and-under-pressure-from-rapes-and-scams government

There were many many people in Kol and all over WB who questioned why so much taxpayer's money was being wasted on essentially an individual owned business

But yes WB loves sport and that plus free tickets to the Eden for celebrations meant it was an over the top event

Uthappa is due to fail and this might be it. No middle order, Gambhir out of form, and consistently poor fielding, and really bowling can only defend defendable runs

No middle order?

Shakib, Tendo, SuryaKumar Yadav and Pathan are a pretty good middle order.

They are prone to underperforming and failing under pressure, there is too much dependency on one person

What DN said. Mamta di took the chance to get some kind of a positive PR. It was embarassing but nothing to do with the franchise itself. If we win again, I doubt it'l happen again.

I'm not Bengali btw incase my response indicates that.

Only rate Shakib of that lot. Tendo hasnt played much, Yadav is just a crazy hitter and Pathan is Pathan, Past it. We need one of Gambhir and Uthappa to fire.

After a typical Sehwag innings last time, we get a typical Sehwag dismissal. Trying to smack a not so short ball over mid on!

:wenger:

Brilliant from 2 young Indian players. Great to see.

They will score still under par or best at par. This has always been a high scoring ground. Maxwell their best batsmen this season getting less than 5 overs if that much to bat is poor tactics.

Poor tactics? This has been their tactics all along. If they get a good start then Maxwell comes in, if they don't it's Saha. Nothing new. Bailey didn't last too long so makes no difference.

Maxwells last 5 innings: 14, 2, 0, 6, 13
You want the team to rely on that form?
The two out there are doing alright.

That said, 180-ish certainly isnt safe

Brilliant from Saha! He's been threatening this all season as well

Saha always had a lot of potential playing club cricket and Ranji and is revered by local players. This season he has stepped up. Picked for England as well.

Loads of people going gaga over young Indian batsmen for no reason. It was just ugly swipes against spin on a ground with short boundaries. Vohra was actually clueless against spin. Even Saha did not have the chops to hit a proper inside out shot with the spin, something an actual good player of spin like Gambhir can do. I would not start using IPL to find Indian batting talents.

Aye.

The boundaries at this stadium were 60m only. Still Saha is a decent bat.

Just saw this. Fair enough. Though one of the reasons why no one has been convicted in fixing in India is because we do not have any specific laws against it. I am not the one to defend BBCI but you can't blame them for it.

This is not about proving one board to be better than the other, not that it makes any difference anyway.
