I think we will see something like that mor often in the future.
Most of us, including me, have never seen him play. Not apart from short TV snippets showing a very different (slow) style of football.
We heard that he's the greatest ever, but thats difficult to assess nowadays really. I do have seen Maradona, Beckenbauer, Cryuff though. Documentations on tournaments, maybe sometimes even a full game on some obscure TV channel.
So its easier to use those in drafts.
I wouldn't have picked Pele either.
Oak is stronger, faster and better both tactically and technically then all 4 of them.

TBH thats not the reasons why i didnt pick him, plenty of full games around from his peak and i dont question his quality, certainly in the highest tier possible with few other players but there are others of similar quality(specially in one tourno peak)that are more interesting then him and much more fun to build around.

Well maybe, but as a German, we never had any games against Brazil in his era (which wasn't well televised anyway).
So I have seen Cruyff of course, Maradona of course, but never really him apart from compilations.
IMO, Pelé's best international tournament (where he had a sustained impact) was the 1970 World Cup - so it wasn't far removed from peak Beckenbauer or Cruyff, especially in the context of this draft. If that was a a very different (slow) style of football, was 1974 very different for Beckenbauer and Cruyff, or indeed 1966 or 1970?

So, saying I wouldnt chose someone purely based on merit I can't confirm and whom I don't really know well in a draft like that puts me in the wrong neighbourhood? I always had the impression that was kinda what these drafts are about, but whatever man.
I think @Moby is referring more to the fact that there are many matches available where Pelé played, so it's not like you'll have a tough time watching him and assessing his ability.
EDIT: I just saw your latest post, and in response to that, there are still several matches available of the 1958 and 1966 World Cups when you can watch Pelé play along with the Santos matches in the Copa Libertadores as well as the Intercontinental Cup.
Haven't gotten my point. Of course 1974 wasn't that far from 1970, how should it be. But as someone younger and European, you never reall had a chance to see him apart from 1970 TV records. TV coverage advanced rapidly from that point on, so I know these players way better. 1974 is pretty much a turning point for Television in Germany by the way, it was the breakthrough for coloured television. Just as an example.
I'm not saying Pele doesn't deserve his merits or something, just that I can't really comment on them.
I'm saying this things wouldn't exist if we restricted it to players we have seen ourselves, 99% discussions revolve around people arguing players they have seen in videos at best. You are an extremely odd one out, here.
Since I won't sit through watching some 70'S football game just for this, that's kinda a moot point. Germany's games from that period and world cup compilations from 1974 onwards on the other hand regularly get televised in Germany before tournaments, that's just something I've grown up with. Very different.
Seen way more games Cruyff, Beckenbauer and Maradona played than any Pele played. It is what it is, maybe a German thing this TV coverage exploded so much in 1974 due to it being our home world cup.
Good for us that we only care about those games (and the previous Intl games) and none of his inaccessible club games whatsoever in this draft, eh?
I get what you mean, and to be honest, each to their own. If you don't want to pick Pelé because you don't want to go through the effort to watch and assess him, then fair enough. Some, however, are interested enough in going through that effort as evidenced by past research-intensive drafts.

Yeah if it's a 4-2-3-1 he's usually chucked into but would love to see someone dare to go for the 4-2-4 with him, at the expense of losing the midfield battle etc. I mean a proper 4-2-4, not one which turns into 5-3-2 or somthing off the ball, just all out samba, which no one would consider balanced on paper yet it shat on everything that moved.
Not sure that Fellaini's is better, and I tried to be honest in that comparison
