Interim manager discussion: Who replaces the interim interim manger (Carrick)?

I’m actually surprised by the approach if this is true. All of Valverde, Favre, Ragnick and Garcia would be good at this point, all have a much stronger pedigree than Solskjaer, were good at their most recent jobs and will treat this as an opportunity to get back into the business. I’ll be totally happy with any of them.

Fifth option is reportedly Fonseca.

Who do we want?

I genuinely have no idea what the best option is here.
This. Having no issue with the other 4. Just don't go down to the fifth option.

Fonseca is all about the good vibe about his style, but no substance. He never punch over the weight. Now that I looks closer at his managerial career, he has a failed stint at Porto which is alarming. I think this is the same reason Newcastle rather see Eddie Howe as a safer bet for his PL experience despite having a relegation mark on his CV.

"A little bit of pressing? Come on. A 'little bit of pressing' is like 'a little bit of pregnant'... Either you are pregnant or not. Either you want to play pressing or not. But please not 'a little bit of pressing'."

Three years of watching us 'press'...

I wonder if Ole or current staff ever listened to such football manager analysis.

So many what if’s right?
I mean what if Carrick takes the team to Stamford Bridge and lays the wood to Chelsea’s ass. Your surely not going to walk into the room and tell him to step aside. No.. you are gonna ride that streak.
Same issue all over again..
after a couple of pints, I have come to the conclusion that it’s all up to the football gods… some call it luck. Some Devine intervention.
I say go with Carrick until you can secure either Poch or THag.

I'm surprised none of the journos have pointed it out.

It roughly jibes with the idea that Woodsmear isn't in total control of the footballing side anymore. AKA the footballing people at the club are compiling the list of candidates (perhaps providing supplementary information to help the Glazerderps understand what they're looking at)

Rangnick is the right man to take over. He should be offered the DoF after he finishes his interim (if appointed) he would do wonders for our football set up. Unfortunately the owners and EW will pick someone like Sam Allardyce :(

After some rumination and a bit of time I think I've come to the conclusion of what o want to see

My first choice will still be zidane seeing as how close is his specialty and how he has managed to keep the egos in check have a generally decent attacking style of play added to his impressive big game record and he seems non brainer to me to be able to come in and not disrupt the play style too much while getting results but that seems more unlikely by the day as he's apparently more content to sit this season out

So all that considered ragnik seems like an excellent choice and the more I read about him the more impressed I become

His English is very good caple of conveying his thoughts and ideas across very well has a clear and defined attacking style and his record speaks for itself

he clearly has been looking for that next big jump in his career and he clearly thinks we might be it(he wanted the Millan job but it got canceled in the last minute)

There are obviously concerns about him including but not limited to his rather strong personality which might ruffle some feathers which might cause him to fall out with club his prior lack of not managing a big club and his insistence to hold a directorial job after his tenure and perhaps his styles lack of compatability with our squad

And also as some posters have pointed out he might have a habit of blowing his own trumpet over amplifying his role in the development of the likes of klopp and tuchel

But all that consideration this just seems the more logical choice allowing us to modernize our squad while winning a big cup here or there and allowing us to pursuit a more long term choice (if it didn't turn out to well) in the summer like ten hag etc

All the alternatives floating around in the media come with major caveats and lack of ambition

Pochetino whom I very much liked to have a season or two ago seems to have lost his mojo and playing a much more negative and depressing style of football with no guarantee of success

Valverde is big time bottle job with a tumescent style of play

And every other choice basically being a past it no achievement type of manager

So all that said yes I would be very happy to have ragnick over here

I agree with a lot of that but his aspirations are to be a full time appointment which is where the interim idea falls apart with him. If we hired him as the permanent manager I would be pretty happy with that but I just don't see that happening.

I'd go Favre or Ragnick from the list. Valverde should ok as well.
Just avoid Garcia or Fonseca.

Think he just wants reassurances there is still a role for him upstairs in the summer

If you'd be happy for him to be the permanent manager I'd suggest you take a closer look at his managerial career and recent appointment history. He is a consultant-type who's selling himself pretty well to our fan-base.

Will admit I don't know a whole lot about any of them which made me sound proper amateur. I have just seen Favre's name touted for jobs and remember Valverde from managing Barca.

Fair enough though his record in shalke and Leipzig is very decent

And I did have have that consultancy role in mind

Also just look at the alternatives all ignominious failures sacked for not being good enough while managing clubs of much lower standing then ours while the likes of ten hag are out of reach till at least summer

What are the ties between him and Murtough?
According to info from a podcast (training ground guru), Rangnick when given the job of creating the Red Bull project, contacted Murtough to advise him on creating a data science department. Murtough has a history of modernising clubs and has been hired by a host of clubs in the past for his expertise in the field. Mohammed Al Fayed hired Murtough to modernise Fulham in 2004 from what I've read.

When were we for Rangnick?

“The chances of United and Rangnick suddenly working together just two years after negotiations between the pair collapsed seems unlikely, especially given the acrimonious terms negotiations were left on.”

I think the fans should have the final word on this.

After all, they need to come up with chants that rhyme and scan and some of these surnames will be tricky

Rangnick is the most appealing. Him wanting a role beyond the interim manager position is a positive for me. We need someone like him.

I’d prefer rangnick to get it but my 2nd choice would be rudi Garcia, much prefer him over valverde, he plays good football and improves teams wherever he’s been… he also knocked city out of the UCL with Lyon. I doubt we’re going to get anyone though before Sunday’s big game against Chelsea which might not be good because if carrick manages to pull of a win then the board are most likely just going to give it him until the end of the season.

This romantic idea of past players managing MUFC needs to stop.
We tried it with Ole and it was a disaster.
Right now we have 3 coaches all related to MUFC's past - Phelan, Carrick and McKenna and all 3 of them need to be fired, asap. Absolutely dreadful coaches. These are the guys who have taken a team of Galacticos and have them struggling to match the technical ability of Watford!
Not a single player that has entered the first team has improved. Even Bruno (who was a revelation when he joined us), is now beginning to struggle and was benched in our last game.
We also hired a set-piece coach over the Summer. That guy should also be fired as our set-piece defending has been dreadful this season since he joined.
These coaches should be removed from the club without any severance pay, on the basis that they aren't actually coaches but imposters.

I can go on and on, but you get the drift.

Let a new manager join and he should be allowed to bring in his own elite-level coaches, rather than the poor excuse for coaches we have.

Not what I said and there is nothing wrong with ex players being in the background. You think Solari was seen as the next Zidane?

Rudi Garcia expert “On a remise l’église au milieu du village”

Identifying and promoting talent from within your own ranks is a good thing.

Using a current example, it's easy to see why we might want to keep someone like Juan Mata at the club in some post-playing capacity given his work with Common Goal, his degrees in science and marketing and the fact that he's a walking talking positive PR generator. I'm not sure what an appropriate role would be, it might only be a glorified ambassadorial one, but it makes sense to see if there's somewhere he fits.

But there's a difference between selectively offering a pathway for talent from within your own ranks and hiring people just because they used or already play/work for you. All of Solskjaer, Carrick, Phelan, Fletcher, McKenna and Murtough just happening to be the best people for all those key roles was always unlikely.

Which really is what's attractive about the idea of Rangnick coming in as interim and staying in some capacity beyond that. We're so full of United DNA at the minute that we're bordering on inbred. An outsider influence would be good.

I don't know anything about any of the listed interims. Rangnick seems like the one everyone wants, but he never seems to have been at a really big club..? Is there a reason for that? Why would Bayern have not taken a punt for example, if he was top class?

My view is that :

- Rangnick will not come as Woodward, Arnold and Murtough will not give him the power he needs as a real DoF (since Murtough is the DoF).

- Lucien Favre (from what I heard from his nephew here in Switzerland) will not come as he does not want to take a club now, and England is not his favorite place to work.

- Rudi Garcia is an absolute JOKE and he's as bad as the one who interviewed him. So hopefully not him....

- Fonseca did ok at Roma, an average manager but probably not my choice.

- Leaving us with Valverde as the unique "viable" option, as a coach who know to set a team up, won 2 leagues, and managed some big names. But does he speaks english (even if 70% of our dressing room speak spanish), will he fits directly with the club... let's see.

But this may me leave thinking that the board are misleading us and would like to give to Carrick and Phelan a go until the end of the season.

Have to say I don't really understand the clamor for any of the named interim candidates. They've all won a handful of cups and/or (mostly) lower tier leagues, but surely what we need this season is somebody to steer us towards the CL final (let's be ambitious folks). None of the named candidates have CL pedigree.

The examples of Hiddink and Di Matteo are referenced often, so it seems that is the kind of impact folk are expecting from an interim. I really can't see that happening with the names being considered. Personally I would push hard for Zidane as interim. He apparently isn't keen to manage in England - ok, but sell it that this is only for the season, make CL the absolute and number one objective, and he gets a chance to make history as the only manager to win 4 CL titles. We know he can get the best out of Ronaldo and Varane, and likely Pogba too, and would bring a winner's unique knowledge and experience. With experienced coaching, and some good draws in the knockout rounds, a CL win is achievable for this squad.

There are no guarantees with picking a manager I know, but Zidane is the highest achieving of the out of work managers, and the powers that be should be moving heaven and earth to get him.

He has a stubborn personality and wants to control almost every aspect of the football side, hence why he prefers being a DoF rather than a coach. Was very very good at Leipzig before Naggelsmann (and before with Schalke). But I really doubt that he will fit with Woodward and co. He knows too much the football and would in a blip understand how poor we are at it.

Its because many of you want them to become Pep 2.0. Not being funny but whoever would be coming in would have been very successful without whoever we keep around the place. It’s not going to make diddly squat difference who’s Hanging around trying to soak up experience or reminding players of the values of playing for Manchester United. I’m not expect Fletcher to revolutionise football with sole amazing coaching methods.

Another example (Just because they are bloody numerous amounts of them). Arteta was part of Pep’s coaching set up. Now manages Arsenal and he don’t look like baby Pep to me, neither does Pep look like he’s missed him.

Fergie literally had Phelan stealing a living thinking he was as actually a good coach. That was just one man. It made no difference to us.

Phelan had spells at Norwich, Blackpool and Stockport prior to returning to United. He took a role in Manchester United school of excellence and then he worked his way up. Fletcher and Carrick had no coaching experience whatsoever but they both fount themselves as first team coaches in matter of months. Fletcher catapulted himself from U16 coach to technical director in matter of 5-6 months. How silly is that?

What I expect from these former players is to leave United and prove themselves before coming back. Unfortunately what we've got is people who expect huge roles based on what they did on the pitch. The likes of Gaz and Keane who failed spectacularly as managers ran scared to punditry rather then try a second or third time were ironically they spend most of their bashing players for being spoiled, cowards and not assertive enough.

We all agree that United football side is a shambles. Therefore before attempting offering apprenticeships to bored millionaires with no coaching experience whatsoever let's build our structure and win a couple of important trophies first.

Just to finish on Garcia, when he was the Marseille coach he said at TV (while his team where 3rd) and he lost to PSG twice, Lille, Monaco and St Etienne :

"If you cancel the goals we conceded against these teams, we would have compete with them"....

Ok Rudi, and if you were the only team in the league, you would win it. Joker
