Injury Crisis 2023/24 | Martínez and Casemiro back in training

Bloke on sky sports the other day giving it “yeah United have injuries but still, why do they only have 1 left back? You look at other teams and they have cover.”

Sometimes I think if you scanned these people's heads there'd just be porridge in there.

I think Martinez hasn’t fully recovered from the knock he got on his foot a few weeks ago. He could probably play through the pain in an emergency!

Mainoo, Mount and Amrabat are close to returning!

I really like the look of Amass in the U18’s (left back) maybe he’ll get the call to provide cover?
I think it’s more than that

So basically we only have Evans, Maguire and Lindelof, Dalot for 4 positions .
I dont trust Varane to stay fit.

Feck man, that's depressing

Well I’m not even left footed, and I’m 48 years old, but might take my boots with me tomorrow. You never know!

Martinez hasn’t looked right all season so I’m not surprised.

We’re clearly doing something badly wrong behind the scenes, this is well beyond bad luck.

Either the training is haphazard or we've employed a bunch of Dr. Nicks.

It's gone past the point of bad luck. No other side in the league is even close to suffering injuries like this.

I think Ten Hag has overplayed some of these players and we are seeing the consequences of it now.

Martínez picking up an injury against Arsenal but then playing in the next two games is so unbelievably stupid on so many levels!

It does feel not great, but looking at the league unavailable list we aren't the only ones suffering. It says we have 11 out right now (including Sancho and Antony albeit they are suspended), same as Chelsea. Thats before the news McTom and Eriksen are back, and Antony now available so really only 8 out. Sheffield United have 10, Newcastle 9 and then it's Arsenal and Tottenham with 8 each. Pool and City both have 4 (although I was sure Pep was just moaning about it). So we arent numerically significantly worse, it's just we manage to have 100% of the available left backs all injured.

So our emergency left back cover managed all of 2 games before getting injured? What the feck is wrong with us right now!?

Every injury feels infinitely amplified because we lack reliable backup options.
I also suspect we lack proper recovery/rehabilitation facilities for injured players to build their strength back up. This was alluded to by Ronaldo in his second stint here.

This is definitely poor diet and poor fitness preparation than bad luck.

The club is well behind on sports science.

We have decent backups. It's the backups and the starters being injured. And the 3rd choice being injured. That's why its amplified. Nobody can have depth to protect for this. You just struggle through. The cause of these injuries is different, but a lot were to players who haven't been long at United or before they came in.

Far from the truth, United have fantastic rehabilitation facilities, so much so Rangnick wanted all players to recover at United saying: As far as I can tell the medical department is really good, very good, with many different approaches towards rehab. I would not want players to do their rehab abroad or anywhere else.

United are also supplied by Canon/Toshiba still and so still sit at the front end of leading technology.

It feels like no matter how many players we sign, we'll have to see Maguire-Lindelöf partnership which is painful.

Maybe our left-backs run much more than they should because they don't get as much support as they should get. Both Shaw and Reguilion are down with muscle injuries which generally occur due to muscle overuse.

It's a stretch maybe but Rashford is way too lazy.

Don't think that's just down to Rashford to be honest. Without Amrabat we've not had the midfield defensive cover for our wingback who we like to have push forward. Hopefully Amrabat can stay fit and make us a bit more balanced.

I don't think it's a surprise virtually all our injuries have been in defence recently, and I think that's because they're being required to be far more involved in how we play now that we are almost always playing out from the back. This is not a bad thing, worth the transition.

Expect we'll see more of Lindelof and Amrabat at wing back in the coming weeks.

At this point it's hard not to feel like there's something wrong at your club. Too many injuries, and while this period is one of the worst you had, you've constantly had a number of players injured over the past few years.
I think the club should conduct some kind of overall review, from the training facilities to the medical staff and procedures. Even if it's just bad luck and the club is running smoothly, it'd be wise to make sure of it.
You guys talk about Varane being injury-prone and it's true, he has totally become injury-prone but he wasnt before going to Manchester. All of your major players have gone through some kind of serious injury over the past few years, with Bruno being the exception, he's an iron man.

There has to be something with training that is causing most of these injuries

Lets not forget United played the most games across all the top 5 league teams last season, and that there was a World Cup in the middle of the season, where most of our first team players played.

We’re mostly suffering from the setback of said season.

And as another poster said, we’re numerically not the only ones suffering a long list of injuries in the PL

We're definitely not the best equipped to deal with injuries, and something needs addressing, but look at pretty much every EPL club right now. There are seemingly injury crises developing everywhere. Last season was a killer and it's catching up.

Varane has been injury-prone before coming to United just to add some facts to our comment. If you look through the injuries, they're down to bad luck or injury-prone players, and we can't forget about horror tackles. Sometimes players play through the pain which can make things worse, and sometimes players don't play through the pain when they probably could. Suarez played against Norwich with a twisted ankle, he wore a size bigger boot on one foot and scored a hattrick. Painkillers.

The more you play, the more you're likely to get injured, it's what Varane was complaining about.

I mean someone just posted above that the club's injuries aren't that far above other clubs. But yes cursed, voodoo, players being looked after in dilapidated huts by three toddlers in a trench coat stacked on top of each other.

The post above is noting that we're not that far above other clubs now. But that's after we've had injuries to Mount, Amrabat, Hojlund, Varane, Martinez, Maguire, Lindelof and Martial already this season, which is the context for people's complaints.
