Iniesta - Is there another? | Announces retirement

Lovely player to watch. He has that rare privilege in Spain of being appreciated by everyone in the country after his heroics for the national team. He'll go down as one of the greats if he keeps this up for a few more years.

Shame he won't win POTY award, because everyone prefers Messi.

I'm sure he's happy with second in the Ballon D'or. Messi is a phenomenon, to be fair.

His quick feet and deceptive speed got the better of Madrid on numerous ocasions yesterday. I prefer his acceleration on the ball to Messi's, it just looks so clean when he breaks through defensive lines in that head-raised stance. Messi is a genius, but Iniesta isn't far behind. The people who have coached him over the years from his youth, deserve tremendous credit for producing the most fluid attacker out there in the game.

Did a couple of outrageous dives in the first leg.

Fantastic player, though. Close control is better than any other player on the planet IMO. Yes, even better than Messi/Ronaldo.

I actually think Nani might be the closest, when it comes to having the ability to manipulate the ball in tight spaces.

He didn't play in the first leg.

Such a brilliant player. But it's hard to forget his dives in the WC final

He didn't? Must be thinking of another one of the Clasicos. Maybe the Copa Del Rey? God knows there's been enough of 'em in the last few weeks.

Might have been the Copa Del Rey, though I can't remember the diving and feigning injury in that game eveR coming close to the rubbish that went down in the Bernabeu CL game. Saying that, Iniesta isn't really one for rolling around especially compared to those odious cnuts Mascherano and Biscuits. His ability on the ball is mesmeric and far outshines any dirty side to his game.

Iniesta isn't really a diver or cheater like Busquets or Di Maria.

I have not seen a single Latin/Spanish etc players not go down a bit easily. Its in their football culture.

If Iniesta is a diver Rooney is too. Truth is they both go down a bit easily sometimes but then most of the players do.

Anyways Iniesta is fecking awesome. One of the best midfielders of past times.

I have always rated him since watching him few years back.

Iniesta is far far worse than Rooney when it comes to diving. It's just that his good work gets overshadowed by the legends that are Alves, Busquets, Pedro and Mascherano.

There was a blatant dive in the WC Final by him - can't remember who it was that he got carded but, it was in injury time. With him and the rest of his lot - they fall at the slightest touch or possible touch. When a team gets even the slightest bit physical they'll go so far as to start cheating

People call it beautiful football but, when did football become a non-contact sport? Seems to bred into the Barca players. Ronaldo is right, it's something about Barca, Mascherano was no where near as bad as he is now in the theatrics deparatment. Iniesta on the other hand has grown up learning that if a team gets in your face, fall and ask for the referee to book the players.

Iniesta can be a right gimp, no question.

It's only because of the likes of Busquets and Alves that he doesn't stand out in that team.

He got some 2-3 people booked didn't he? I clearly remember him diving to get Heitinga booked/sent off. He's lucky his dives don't get much attention due to the other show stealers.

I just want to say, the pass Rooney played to put Giggsy through for our 1st goal was conservatively speaking 1000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000x better than the one Iniesta played for Pedro last night.

Carry on.

Didn't play in that either did he? He's been injured.

Surpassed Xavi in my eyes. Best midfielder in the world not to mention perhaps the most versatile attacker. Such a clean passer as well, the guy has to go down as arguably the greatest midfielder of his generation. I think I'm in love (even though he shagged us silly at the Camp Nou last season).

I guess this explains your somewhat unique view of Pedro too.

My favourite player now Scholes has retired, wonderful player, such a shame he most likely will never win the Ballon D'Or because of Messi.

Xavi>Cleverley>Iniseta

Hopefully will accept the kudos in 5 years time

Great quote from Guardiola about Iniesta:
On the day Iniesta was called to train with the first-team squad, he could not find the dressing room. Luis Enrique was sent out to find him. Wide-eyed, the 16-year-old thought it was a joke, yet Guardiola was deadly serious when he told team-mates: "Remember this day – the day you first played with Andrés." Pulling Xavi Hernández aside he said: "You're going to retire me. This lad is going to retire us all."

A shame he doesn't get the award for best player because he isn't the best? I thought it would rather be a shame the other way around.

No because I feel he is the best player in the World but I doubt the general consensus will ever be that because he doesn't have as many highlights or as brilliant stats as say Messi or Ronaldo.

My favorite non-united player in the world. He's very likable also, I think Sid Lowe once said that Iniesta was the most likable player in the Spanish La Liga. Destroyed us in the Rome final though.

He is among the top 2 passer, top 2 dribbler, and top 2 midfielder in the world.

It may sound crazy to a lot of people but I know what you mean. In terms of general game play I don't think there is any better, perhaps Messi at his creative best.

Great bumpage. He's a delight to watch when he's not playing Utd.

David Silva if we converted him to play as a central midfielder... Then again Iniesta doesnt always play there.

And Valencia have played Silva there once or twice this season. Its not his ideal position though and he's almost pure potential at this point. Bit of an enigma, like Iniesta for much of this season. Geniusly talented but doesnt get too many goals/assists. Of course Iniesta went and put that right at the end of his season.

Thats the only one I can think of that would be able to play in a similar way to him.

Slightly off topic but this deserves a bump too given the abuse Ekeke is copping for supposedly not rating Silva. Seems a fair synopsis of his level of development at the time and a pretty unequivocal recognition of his talent. I enjoy a good witch hunt as much as the next man but Ekeke's getting misrepresented alot on this topic imo.

That final goal made me think, shit, Barca should get David Silva...

Brilliant little player. Its scary to think his best is perhaps still to come. Always a pleasure to watch him do his thing. Him and Xavi in the same midfield is a tad unfair on the other teams tbf.

He'l go down as the best midfielder of his generation imo.

I think it's almost impossible not to admire the way he plays the game.

He does magical things that make football more than worth watching, there's very few players around like that. To have the ability and composure to perform these close control skills in high pressure situations is incredible. There was one turn where he was being pressed by two players on the edge of his own box and he just did a turn to completely take out both of them and make them look stupid.

I've often said that in a big game he's the one I fear most, even in that great barca side. The way he toyed with us in 09 was unreal.

However, his diving antics mean I don't like him as a player as much as I would otherwise
